2014-06-06 Thread Petr Dlouhý
Hi,

I updated my Ubuntu today and the non-existent display is gone. But the
HDMI display is also gone and I am not able to connect any display
through HDMI port.

This seems to be an regression of this bug fix. Should I fill in another
bug report, or is it OK here?

I am sorry, the bug is only my mistake.

I had "alias tail='tail -50'" enabled, and that command option stopped
working in newer versions of Ubuntu (I am not sure, if it can't be
considered as bug).

Anyway, thanks for your tip. I am closing the bug as invalid.

The program might be undeveloped for some time, but it is not reason for not

also the development might start again.

[Bug 681921] [NEW] mouse doesn't get refocused, when switching window/desktop

2010-11-26 Thread Petr Dlouhý
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When I switch window/desktop, mouse focus remain in old window, so I
can't click on the elements on the new window. This state remains until
I click with right button on status bar (or somewhere), sometimes I must
click many times.

The problem raised last week with updates. It is probably related to
Intel driver, with I had recently problems.

[Bug 674107] Re: Intel 855GM: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration.

2010-11-26 Thread Petr Dlouhý
Over the time, the problem transformed, but the originally reported bug seems
to be still present. I remembered, that the fall of Xorg was caused by playing
video in mplayer (I didn't take that into account, because Xorg used to fall
without cause in past).
Now, after some updates, I am able to run Xorg again with Intel driver (after
more than a year). Although, the bug pops-up, when I try to play a video in
mplayer. Occasionally (with WMV video format regularly), the video stops to be
displayed (black or blue surface is shown instead). I am not able to play any
video until Xorg restart.
The mplayer is outputing this:
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

and xorg.log tails with same lines as before

Public bug reported:

When I write french ipa nasal signs (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_phonology) into the gnome-terminal,
the sign is behaving weirdly - it is probably shown as two signs, but
handled as one. The file with problematic signs is attached. When the
file is opened in , everything is correct, but when it is opened
in gnome-terminal (I tried to use the same font) in vim or cat, the
signs are shown in place of two.

[Bug 218922] Re: b43 is not working after installation without internet connection in jockey

2008-04-18 Thread Petr Dlouhý
>Broadcom should just allow us to redistribute that silly firmware...

I don't think, that it is just problem of Broadcom. As I know, GPL is not
allowing to distribute GPL code along with non-GPL-compatible code. Whole
Ubuntu is derived work of its GPL-licensed parts, and if derived work is
distributed, there should be available all its source codes under GPL.
I am not lawyer, but I know that from situation when Kororaa came with binary
nvidia module on its LiveCD. There was big discussion about this, but result
was, as I remeber, that the nvidia module is not distributed anymore on its
LiveCD. On Ubunt LiveCD is also not included nvidia binary module, and should
be downloaded (and the derived work is not distributed then).

The legal way, I see, is to make package (or something), with all
problematic binary drivers and firmwares. This package could be placed
on second CD or USB disc, allowing user to make everything working out
of the box without Internet connection.

[Bug 218922] [NEW] b43 is not working after installation without internet connection in jockey

2008-04-17 Thread Petr Dlouhý
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: b43-fwcutter

I am trying to install b43 through jockey on snapshot of Ubuntu Hardy LiveCD
(from yesterday).
For installation of the module is needed to download the firmware (necessity of
internet connection to install internet connection is pitty, but understandable
in situation where no opensource firmware is available).
For this action is needed internet connection, but it is not required by the
installer - it only asks if I want to "Fetch and extract firmware?". If I am
not connected to internet, the installer ends up with "E: b43-fwcutter:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1", which is
really not something, what will tell user what happend.
Now is Jockey in state, when b43 is not enabled, but enabling it will not cause
any actual effect. To get wifi to work is needed to reinstall b43-fwcutter
connected to internet. When first-time user gets to this state, it is almost
imposible to get it working.

[Bug 210224] Re: b43 is not detected by "Hardware drivers" on livecd (Hardy)

2008-04-16 Thread Petr Dlouhý
I tried newest Hardy LiveCD, and b43 is detected correctly now.

For activating the module is needed to download the firmware (necessity of
internet connection to install internet connection is pitty, but understandable
in situation where no opensource firmware is available).
For this action is needed internet connection, but it is not required by the
installer - it only asks if I want to "Fetch and extract firmware?". If I am
not connected to internet, the installer ends up with "E: b43-fwcutter:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1", which is

any actual effect. To get wifi to work is needed to reinstall b43-fwcutter
connected to internet. When first-time user gets to this state, it is almost
imposible to get it working.

Second small issue with this is, that the installer is requiring
reqiring computer restart, while there is no need for this (after
instllation is wifi working).

[Bug 218098] [NEW] can't resume with Ati 3D Rage II+

2008-04-16 Thread Petr Dlouhý
Public bug reported:

I am using Ati 3D Rage II+ in dualhead with nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 on Ubuntu
Hardy. I am using nv modules for nVidia and ati modules for Ati.
When I try to hibernate with X running only on nVidia or just console,
everything is working. But when I try to hibernate with X running only on Ati
or in dualhead, the computer is unable to resume from hibernate.
When the hibernation is executed (by /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh) from terminal
(ctrl-alt-f1) with running X, the computer resumes and is working normally
until I try to switch to X, than it hangs. When hibernation is started from X,
it hangs just after resume.
It hangs, but just X. I can connect through ssh, but the I can't get the screen
back to working (despite that it can be switched back to console, numlock is
shining/not based on which ctrl-alt-fx i choose), even not by restarting gdm
and X - the X will always use 90+% and the screen remains blank. But I can
start the X on nvidia, which works normally.

[Bug 209970] Re: NetworkManager stops working for wireless after going to sleep (both ram and disk) [newest Hardy; b43]

2008-04-05 Thread Petr Dlouhý
I have done some exploration, and I think, that it is problem of
NetworkManager. It is possible to connect to the network from console
through

ifconfig wlan0_rename up
iwconfig wlan0_rename ..
dhclient wlan0_rename

; it is also possible to scan networks through iwlist scan.

I am also sending my dmesg.

2008-04-04 Thread Petr Dlouhý
Here is dmesg.

I tried to unload some modules from kernel before suspending, and I find
out, that the problem is in ehci_hcd module (after unloading this and
only this module, the resume works again).
