[Bug 1453638] [NEW] smokeping_cgi missing

2015-05-10 Thread Phil Colbourn
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 15.04

smokeping v2.6.9-1

/usr/share/smokeping/www/smokeping.fcgi.dist requires
/usr/lib/cgi-bin/smokeping_cgi.

This file, when renamed, is required to get fastcgi working.

But smokeping_cgi has been renamed to smokeping.cgi

Might be better to leave upstream smokeping_cgi in place and to make a
smpokeping.cgi symlink.

[Bug 951585] Re: gvfsd-afp consumes 100% of processor cycles

2013-03-15 Thread Phil Colbourn
I have a Macbook on local network, but that does not cause issue by just
being there.

Ubuntu 12.10 with 3.75 kernel from ppa - but it has been faulty on many
kernels that I have used.

3.7.5-030705-generic #201301280206 SMP Mon Jan 28 07:07:29 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

For me (and what I know) it happens when I mount an AFP share from a
Drobo-FS. Then it get gvfsd-afp-browse munching through 100%.

Only after I mount an AFP device.

[Bug 305546] Re: Nautilus crashing/freezing when opening folder with svg file

2012-01-02 Thread Phil Colbourn
I disagree.

I downloaded my svg file that I attached in July 2009. It still crashes
Nautilus.

It also killed Chrome when I tried to re-attach it!

rsvg-view also segfaults on this file. rsvg-view uses librsvg2-2

More info: It crashes in my home directory, but not my Downloads or
Desktop directory.

It does not crash when I turn off preview. Opening it with gnome image
viewer from Nautilus crashes gnome image viewer.

But in my Desktop, gnome image viewer will open this file!

Nautilus preview works in Desktop as well.

So, seems to be specific to my home directory!?!

A friend noted that this SVG does not validate, so I have removed errors

Still same behaviour.

[Bug 185600] Re: libreoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2011-07-08 Thread Phil Colbourn
This lasted one day. I don't understand this fault. It is not perfectly
repeatable and, as I found, it can disappear for a whole day and then
reappear which makes it hard to nail-down and confirm what causes it.

[Bug 185600] Re: libreoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2011-07-07 Thread Phil Colbourn
An odd thing that we have noticed: if you run draw, and go through a
sleep/resume cycle, this problem goes away. Then you can close draw and
your calc and writer will be stable through multiple sleep/resume
cycles.

It may be too early to post this observation, but in my hope that it
offers a valuable key I thought it worth mentioning.

Another possibility is that it is July 7 - but I doubt it somehow ;)

[Bug 185600] Re: libreoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2011-07-06 Thread Phil Colbourn
Similar prob. MacBook Pro 4,1
With binary nvidia driver

Linux max 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:24 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Happens when LibreOffice is running and laptop sleeps/resumes.

Typically Writer is very slow and causes whole laptop to pause for
several seconds.

Get this error in Xorg.0.log:
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

To 'fix' I rmmod bcm5974 and modprobe bcm5974 and quickly kill
LibreOffice and reopen it.

The trackpad (BCM5974) clicks still function but there is no mouse
cursor.

I have bcm5974 removed/reinstalled before/after a sleep/resume - does
not seem to help.

No other application seems to cause this.

Need anything else?

PS: A friend with a virtually identical setup has same problem.

[Bug 707674] Re: error Couldn't open path-to-file.part: Permission denied

2011-01-27 Thread Phil Colbourn
All seems ok.

I suspect the file's permissions were the real cause.

Only one file had incorrect permissions. I suspect/guess that I may have
started Transmission as root for a few seconds, and this must have been
the file that was created during that time.

But, could the program continue to work on other files and provide a
warning instead of stopping?

[Bug 707674] [NEW] error Couldn't open path-to-file.part: Permission denied

2011-01-25 Thread Phil Colbourn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

When this error happens, Transmission Pauses all activity.
It is followed by these two messages:

I tried un-ticking this file so that it would not be downloaded, but the
error eventually happened again - about 7 hours later - which is better
than normal where if fails after a few minutes.

I have since deleted the offending file, forced a verify and all is well

wrong - how would that happen?

Unfortunately, in my enthusiasm in locating the probably cause of the
fault, I deleted it without checking the permissions.

Hard to explain: It happens when the following is true:

* a non-maximized window title bar is touching the top panel
* when dragging a window left and right
* window extends across two workspaces (

The title bar seems to bend upwards underneath the panel. When dragging
has finished (mouse button is released) the windows does one of two
things:

1. it 'dances' with the right side (or the left side depending on whether the
window is on the left or right side of the screen) of the window jumping up and
down continuously. The content is constantly adjusting the the new window size
(kind-of a nice effect but difficult to use)
2. the window dances a few times then the whole window slides down the screen
an inch and stops.

I have a video that I can send to someone.
I am running gutsy and only noticed it today (October 22, 2007) after an
upgrade (but this may be a red-herring).

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing

2007-10-08 Thread Phil Colbourn
2.6.22-13-generic does not work for me with a COMPAQ WL100 PCMCIA.

hostap* loads but does not work.
orinoco_cs will not load since (I guess) it does not support my card's ID 0138
0002 (if that is what all the stuff in modinfo orinoco_cs shows).

[Bug 94893] Re: [apport] rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_vfs_context_get_cancellation()

2007-10-04 Thread Phil Colbourn
The last time this occured for me was September 24 2007. I regularily
upgrage the gutsy distribution.

Today (October 5 2007) I noticed that rhythmbox is no longer seg
faulting while I am at work.

2007-09-28 Thread Phil Colbourn
my prism2 card:

1) Is detected by hostap_cs, and has an interface created: eth1 as
well as wlan0_ren (something like that)
2) Doesn't work with manual configuration (ifconfig, iwconfig and dhclient)
3) Works fine with orinoco_cs and manual configuration (I'm using it
now with a hacked 2.6.20 kernel)

PRODID_1=Compaq
PRODID_2=WL100_11Mbps_Wireless_PC_Card
PRODID_3=Version 01.00

The interface eth1 seems configured and associated to the AP but it
does not get and IP address via DHCP.

[Bug 94893] Re: [apport] rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_vfs_context_get_cancellation()

2007-09-20 Thread Phil Colbourn
I probably have the same problem except I get these messages:

(rhythmbox:2486): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: trying to read from a non-existing
handle
sh: jackd: not found
Segmentation fault

ALSO, It ONLY happens when I am at work. On the train (90min trip)
rhythmbox has never died (so far).

I have two other issues that I am yet to track down: at work and only at
work my laptop without warning switches off or locks-up. Perhaps the
problems are related?

At home I have not had problems either, even when I am connected to my
home network.

Could there be a mDNS issue (I am just guessing)?

[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing

2007-09-14 Thread Phil Colbourn
compaq wl-100 is (if I read it correctly) removed from the orinoco_cs
support list.

This would be a bad thing as the compaq wl-100 only works with the
orinoco_cs driver. the hostap* set does not work (at present).

[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing

2007-09-14 Thread Phil Colbourn
This is the compaq wl100. it matches my pcmcia card.
- PCMCIA_DEVICE_MANF_CARD(0x0138, 0x0002), /* Compaq WL100 11 Mbps
Wireless Adapter */

I think the problem is that hostap is supposed to work for this and
other cards, but it does not seem to for many of us blessed with this or
similar cards.

I also have to blacklist hostap_cs and hostap so it does not take
control.

I should add that orinoco_cs in 2.6.20-16 (the last kernel it seemed to
be in from ubuntu) does not work as well as it once did, but this could
just be me. I can make it work even if I have to ifdown and ifup it
occasionally.

[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing

2007-09-09 Thread Phil Colbourn
orinoco_cs is missing from 2.6.22-11 as well.

I compiled a 2.6.22-11 kernel (not an expert at this) and copied the
orinoco_cs.ko module into
/lib/modules/2.6.22-11-generic/drivers/net/wireless (from memory).

I did a depmod -a and modprobe orinoco_cs.

My wireless link is now up. Not sure if it will automatically come up on
boot though.

To get the module to compile I just enabled CONFIG_PCMCIA_HERMES=m.

So, yes, it should be an easy fix.

[Bug 125832] Re: [gutsy] orinoco_cs.ko missing

2007-09-06 Thread Phil Colbourn
I have a compaq wl100. hostap does not work for me so orinoco_cs would
be good the have. hostap does suggest that I update the firmware, but
2.6.20-16-generic with orinoco_cs works. 2.6.22-10-generic with hostap
fails.

[Bug 78684] Re: AGP not detected on Intel 8285P and E7205 chipsets using kernels higher than 2.6.17

2007-09-04 Thread Phil Colbourn
I had not noticed any problem with feisty 2.6.20-16 (ie. compiz worked).

Under gutsy 2.6.22-10 compiz doesn't work. I get similar messages in Xorg.0.log:
WW RADEON AGP not available
EE RADEON AGP failed to initialize. Disabling the DRI
II RADEON You may want to make sure the agpgart kernel module is loaded before
the radeon kernel module.

So, I rmmod radeon and the modprobe radeon and then logged out and back
in. compiz now works.

This is repeatable.

I have a compaq n620c

Can I supply anymore information to help?
