I suspect this is related to bug # 1568604 and after a chat, I (read as

does not solve this issue it can still be un-linked.

[Bug 1549529] Re: The keyboard is still installed as US-English even if another language is selected during the installation

As a workaround. After install issue "sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-
configuration" from terminal and it will take you to the missing steps
for language, keyboard layout and update the /etc/default/keyboard file.

This also works for the Alternate ISO keyboard bug.

there is a think that the two bugs seen on desktop installer and

[Bug 1559507] [NEW] Keyboard selection is missed

2016-03-19 Thread Phill Whiteside
Public bug reported:

Alternate image lubuntu 16.04 dated 18th March

Following the standard test case

1) Select English
2) Install Lubuntu
3) Select Language = English

This should then give the manual selection of keyboard layout, instead
it goes straight to installing.

it also occurs on bare metal. It seems to be a race issue where a process
is starting before the previous one has things settled. But, it is pain so
we do need a geek to agree to look at it and we minions provide logs and
testing to them. I'm up for being a minion :)

Hi, we did see a bug that sweden was not marked as swedish. For me, with
the beta1 builds in 32bit on bare metal, I get my UK keyboard layout.

I'm marking this as 'please try latest version'... If you still have
this error, please do shout up.!! And thank you for taking the time out

I see this bug on http://phillw.net/hardware/aDU4RVzY with the new Xenial
respin for Lubuntu Desktop ...
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily/20160224/xenial-alternate-i386.iso
So, it is alive and thriving on xenial... having been here since saucy... As we
approach another LTS. Can it be squished?

[Bug 1447038] Re: Shutdown/Restart of live session guest does not work in Virtualbox, and VMWare

I have also followed this up and installed the latest virtual-box as
advertised which is Version 5.0.14 r105127 as if it were solved on that,
we would have enough time to get it into the LTS. Sadly, when pressing
enter / return the session is still showing as running.

[Bug 1458383] Re: gnome-disk-utilty does not allow swapoff of zram devices

2016-01-27 Thread Phill Whiteside
This is expected behaviour within Lubuntu where the RAM overhead is
quite large compared to what lubuntu itself needs to run. Where this not
used, the minimal RAM for running a Live instance would be greater than
we currently state as required.

2016-01-18 Thread Phill Whiteside
Regarding UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-01-08 (0 days ago)

The kernel team have decided that we have the linux LTS kernel 4.4 in
our own 16.04 LTS. This makes perfect sense, my suggestion is to pull in
the 'unstable' ppa from the kernel team and install the 4.4 kernel. (do
not forget to un-install that ppa, else the kernel team will send you
all sorts of "not tested" kernels :D )

[Bug 1529285] [NEW] Alternate installer leaves a very broken system

2015-12-25 Thread Phill Whiteside
Public bug reported:

After installing there is no 'X', nor an ability to use apt-get to
install the missing apport / ubuntu-bug. There is also no man or scp
which means getting a full report more difficult but not impossible if
the developer needs any files extracting from the test VM.

The part that builds the database I doubt has been altered. Jorn said it
was too much effort as it seems pretty broken. I'll give it a try when I'm

2015-10-31 Thread Phill Whiteside
If running on a VM and you have guestfish installed, you can make the
link using it. Close the VM down

sudo guestfish --rw -a disk.img
run
mount /dev/sda1 /
ln-sf /proc/self/mounts /etc/mtab
exit

Then re-start the VM. Do note that the command is 'ln-sf' and not 'ln
-sf'... that had me scratching my head for a while!

[Bug 1504242] [NEW] aptdaemon ubuntu12 has unmet dependancies

2015-10-08 Thread Phill Whiteside
Public bug reported:

This update is being held back due to some dependancy issues.

The following packages have been kept back:
  aptdaemon python-aptdaemon.gtk3widgets python3-aptdaemon.gtk3widgets
  python3-aptdaemon.pkcompat

phillw@piglet:~$ sudo apt-get install aptdaemon
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.

[Bug 1467517] Re: LSC can only 'see' installed applications

2015-08-25 Thread Phill Whiteside
The maintainer (not original author) considers it to be too much of a
re-write to catch this instance that affects LSC only with alternate and
the workaround works fine.

Workaround is launch X-Terminal and issue the command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lubuntu-software-center

There will be a lot of 'not found' errors, but the command will complete
with no final error and LSC will list all available applications etc.

** Summary changed:

- LSC can only 'see' installed applications
+ LSC can only 'see' installed applications - Work around released.

[Bug 1425681] Re: grub2 does not install on encrypted lvm

I've now re-read the test case. The correct way is to create the LVM
before the install. I've never done it that way and would like to know
if it is a recent bug, or just a case of asking the installer to do
something it cannot do which as a tester - I'd never dream of!
