[Bug 1494468] Re: wily cloud images too fat

2015-09-10 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
libdpkg-perl is already a dependency of debhelper, so I didn't have any
objections in adding it to dh-python (which extends debhelper).

The problem is python3 package depends on dh-python - that's because
dh_python3 script was provided by python3 package in the past and not
all source packages that build python3-foo binary packages already
build-depend on dh-python.

You don't need dh-python if you don't want to build any package (and I
suspect cloud images don't).

no. dh-python encodes its own default value.

FTR: dh-python uses /usr/share/python/debian_defaults and
/usr/share/python3/debian_defaults.
Fallback list is used only in python or python3 installation is broken
(i.e. if you skip this patch in Ubuntu, it will probably not change
much - if python{,3} installation is broken, it will FTBFS anyway).

ok, let me be more clear: you have to sync paste, pastedeploy,
pastescript and pastewebkit source packages AT THE SAME TIME or you will
break them. All these packages share paste namespace and thus have to
use the same sys.path entry (i.e. you cannot build some of them using
dh_pysuport and some using dh_python2)

2011-02-11 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
[Forest, 2011-02-11]
Okay, I read the README. It basically says three things regarding this
 issue:

python-supports regenerates empty __init__.py files via dpkg trigger,
once all packages are installed. If you want to force it to regenerate
it sooner, just invoke update-python-modules in postinst or use
dh_python2 instead.

let me quote the relevant part for you again:
| What this means is, if you need a namespace package or depend on a
| package that needs it, *and* that you need to use it during the
| postinst phase (e.g. for a daemon), you will have to add the following
| command in the postinst before starting your daemon:
| update-python-modules -p

2011-02-11 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
[Forest, 2011-02-11]
 I think you're missing my point. I don't want to force python-support
to generate an __init__.py file at all. I want it (and dh_pysupport) to
use my original one. Always. Not just when my file is a certain number
 of bytes.

nobody is forcing you to use dh_pysupport, feel free to use one of two
other helper tools or take care of byte compilation yourself or send a
patch that will deal with Python namespace mess better than dh_pysupport
does.

[Bug 512339] Re: should recommend against using ubuntu-specific versions

2010-08-20 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
IMHO -B debian should also warn that package should be tested in Debian
(at least in chroot) in the first place (and reported from there, if
possible). Even packages without ubuntu in the version can behave
differently on both systems (example: huge changes in Ubuntu's Python -
lots of Python related Ubuntu universe packages didn't work while Debian
ones did)

maybe your mirror is outdated...

[Bug 316429] Re: Please sync sqlalchemy 0.5.0-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main).

2009-01-12 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
FTR: I didn't upload SQLAlchemy 0.5 to Debian unstable not only to ease
testing reverse dependencies in Lenny, but also due to the fact that
some reverse dependencies (like: migrate, anki or gourmet) are not
compatible with 0.5 yet (i.e. python-sqlalchemy ( 0.5~) will be
added to some packages soon, if not done already)

[Bug 316429] Re: Please sync sqlalchemy 0.5.0-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main).

2009-01-12 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
new migrate upstream release will be 0.5 compatible (it will even require it,
IIRC) - one of upstreams (Jan) maintains the package in Debian and promised to
release new version before Lenny release.
anki - compatible version will be uploaded to Debian soon,
imdbpy - should be compatible soon (it only suggests python-sqlalchemy though)
python-pylons - ready
zine - ready (requires 0.5)
griffith - ready

I'm not sure about the rest of packages

[Bug 308911] Re: MIR for python2.6/3.0 build dependencies

2008-12-17 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
about python-simplejson - python-sphinx since 0.5-1 has python (=2.6)
| python-simplejson in Recommends (it tries to import python2.6's json
module if possible), so if python2.6 will be default, python-simplejson
will not be needed
