[Bug 2060345] Re: oscap crashes during audit on the system with ceph-mds package installed
Hi Eduardo, we have already spent countless hours troubleshooting the issue, collecting logs, reporting the problem. We went above and beyond analyzing the crash dump, researching bugs in upstream, eventually building from source and providing the feedback. I believe we have supported the process of maintaining high quality of our software already well enough. I would expect that the Security Team takes care of whatever needs to be done to fix the issue now, since it is now apparent where the problem lies. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060345 Title: oscap crashes during audit on the system with ceph-mds package installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/usg/+bug/2060345/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@pjds, thanks a lot for troubleshooting the issue and finding the bug! [Bug 1865145] [NEW] Ubuntu Bionic freezes on Supermicro hardware when console redirection is configured in kernel parameters
Public bug reported: STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Use MAAS for deploying Ubuntu on bare metal servers. 2. Enable serial-over-lan in BIOS. 3. Enable console redirection in kernel parameters: console=tty0 console=ttyS1,115200n8 4. Connect to the ipmi console to watch the boot and installation process ipmiconsole -u -p -h 5. Start deploying the server with MAAS (bionic, GA kernel) It may require several re-deployments until you experience the issue. In my case, I'm deploying 9 bare metal machines at the same time. The issue typically surfaces on one random node, 50% of the time. 6. During the deployment, after first reboot, typically during execution of cloud-init scripts, the ipmi console freezes. Typically in the middle of printing out some output. You can still SSH to the node. While being logged into the node: - running 'ps aux' takes more than 20 seconds, - running 'systemctl' times out, - the number of zombie processes increases. Sometimes, running 'sosreport' unblocks the node, so that cloud-init scripts finish executing and the node shuts down as expected. Sometimes, only logging into the node with SSH unblocks it. 7. Eventually, after 30 minutes, MAAS marks the node as "Failed deployment". WORKAROUND Remove console redirection from kernel parameters (console=tty0 console=ttyS1,115200n8). AFFECTED HARDWARE Supermicro SYS-2029U-TR4 https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/system/2U/2029/SYS-2029U-TR4.cfm OTHER The issue does not affect Xenial with GA kernel. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "sosreport-lthcloud01-20200226191739.tar.xz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865145/+attachment/5331859/+files/sosreport-lthcloud01-20200226191739.tar.xz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865145 Title: Ubuntu Bionic freezes on Supermicro hardware when console redirection is configured in kernel parameters To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1865145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The other way to workaround this issue is to put bond ports down and bring up port enp24s0f0np0 first and port enp24s0f1np1 second. When I change the order of bringing the ports up (first enp24s0f1np1, and second enp24s0f0np0), the issue is still there. When the issue occurs, a port on the switch, corresponding to interface enp24s0f0np0 is in Suspended state. After applying the workaround the port is no longer in Suspended state and Aggregator IDs in /proc/net/bonding/bond2 are equal. I installed 5.0.0 kernel, the issue is still there. [Bug 1832082] [NEW] bnx2x driver causes 100% CPU load
Private bug reported: For the customer OpenStack deployment we deploy infra nodes on Dell R630 servers. The servers have onboard Broadcom's NetXtreme II BCM57800 NIC (quad port: 2x1G ports, 2x10G ports). For each port in UP state, we observe 100% CPU load. So in total, we observe 4 CPUs with 100% load. perf report shows function bnx2x_ptp_task taking up much of the CPUs time: https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/kfrpd6Pwh5/ Also, /var/log/syslog contains the following outputs every few seconds: [1738143.581721] bnx2x: [bnx2x_start_xmit:3855(eno4)]The device supports only a single outstanding packet to timestamp, this packet will not be timestamped [1738176.727642] bnx2x: [bnx2x_start_xmit:3855(eno1)]The device supports only a single outstanding packet to timestamp, this packet will not be timestamped [1738207.988310] bnx2x: [bnx2x_start_xmit:3855(eno3)]The device supports only a single outstanding packet to timestamp, this packet will not be timestamped [1738240.227333] bnx2x: [bnx2x_start_xmit:3855(eno2)]The device supports only a single outstanding packet to timestamp, this packet will not be timestamped So, the problem seems to be in a "timestampped" TX packet; the driver for some reason (to be yet understood) get an unexpected value from a register and then, it that same function, reschedule itself to try again this register read, read gets a bad value again, and so on infinitely. This is showing in the system as the 100% CPU usage kthreads; the message "The device supports only a single outstanding packet to timestamp, this packet will not be timestamped" happens because the driver can only timestamp a single TX packet at a time, and given it's stuck trying, it cannot accept another packet in this "queue". The infinite loop appears to be: static void bnx2x_ptp_task(struct work_struct *work) { struct bnx2x *bp = container_of(work, struct bnx2x, ptp_task); int port = BP_PORT(bp); u32 val_seq; u64 timestamp, ns; struct skb_shared_hwtstamps shhwtstamps; /* Read Tx timestamp registers */ val_seq = REG_RD(bp, port ? NIG_REG_P1_TLLH_PTP_BUF_SEQID : NIG_REG_P0_TLLH_PTP_BUF_SEQID); if (val_seq & 0x1) { [...] } else { DP(BNX2X_MSG_PTP, "There is no valid Tx timestamp yet\n"); /* Reschedule to keep checking for a valid timestamp value */ schedule_work(&bp->ptp_task); } It appears that val_seq & 0x1 is never true, so the task constantly reschedules itself immediately. Instrumenting the function shows that it is being called in excess of 100,000 times per second. The REG_RD call does appear to be expensive (as it's a register read from the device) and shows high in the perf report, but that by itself doesn't appear to be the root cause (i.e., it's not hanging forever in the REG_RD). The cause appears to be that the driver is not prepared to deal with the PTP request never being completed by the hardware. It's unclear why it isn't completing, but regardless, the driver should not loop forever here.
