[Bug 1503310] Re: window content doesn't refresh, only if window is moved

2015-10-15 Thread R. Moeller
With some help I meanwhile upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and the bug
doesn't seem to appear there, even though the nvidia driver version is
the same (I tried "Ubuntu" and "Gnome fallback Compiz"). Does that help
in localizing the problem for people still using 12.04 LTS?

[Bug 1503310] Re: window content doesn't refresh, only if window is moved

2015-10-08 Thread R. Moeller
Just an addition: The bug shows similarities to this one, although it
was only reported for Firefox:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1194358

Users report that compiz may cause the problems, and that would explain
why the problem isn't present when using "Gnome Classic (no effects)" as
compiz is not running there (but metacity).

So maybe the problem is compiz, not the nvidia driver?

[Bug 1503310] [NEW] window content doesn't refresh, only if window is moved

2015-10-06 Thread R. Moeller
Public bug reported:

I suppose this is a bug with the nvidia driver, but I'm not sure. After
the second-to-last routine software update (which I think updated the
nvidia driver), changing window content is only refreshed if the window
is moved.

Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, kernel 3.2.0-91-generic,
NVidia driver installed: 340.93-0ubuntu0.0.0.1,
Thinkpad laptop with nvidia graphics card (see below),
Window manager: Gnome Classic

How to reproduce the bug: Log in under Gnome Classic. Open Gnome
terminal. Execute some command (ls). Open new tab in terminal. Execute
some other command (ps), just to have different tab contents. Switch
back and forth between the tabs using the mouse. After some switches,
neither the tab rider is activated nor the tab content is refreshed any
longer. Only if you move the window, the tab rider gets activated and
the tab content is refreshed. The same problem occurs in other
applications (e.g. in thunderbird when selecting an email --- email list
entry is not marked and email content is not shown, only if you move the
window), so it is not application-specific.

The bug disappears when using the window manager "Gnome Classic (no
effects)" instead (which is "non-compositing" in contrast to "Gnome
Classic"). The bug is also present in other window magagers ("Ubuntu").

Side remark: I tried but failed to switch back to an earlier version of
the nvidia driver (from 340 to 331) using synaptic: When deinstalling
340 and installing 331 instead, synaptic complains that it depends on
340. So I can only guess that the bug is caused by the nvidia driver.

Any help would be highly appreciated as the bug is really annoying.

[Bug 1308511] Re: rotation of compound objects fails

2014-06-12 Thread R. Moeller
I'm aware that you cannot rotate compounds which INCLUDE an object that
cannot be rotated by arbitrary angles; this is probably what you refer
to, but it is NOT the problem.

The problem is that you CAN rotate the compound if it stands alone, but
as soon as an object OUTSIDE this compound is drawn which cannot be
rotated by arbitrary angles, rotation of the rotatable compound suddenly
also fails. To me it looks as if a check goes wrong: Rotation should
check whether the compound to be rotated contains a component which
cannot be rotated by arbitrary angles. What happens is that somehow
other objects outside the compound that should be rotated are checked on
whether they are rotatable by arbitrary angles.

[Bug 1308511] [NEW] rotation of compound objects fails

2014-04-16 Thread R. Moeller
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS
xfig: 3.2.5.b-2ubuntu1

In xfig 3.2.5b, the rotation of compound objects by angles different
from multiples of 90 deg fails if another object is present which cannot
be rotated for the given angle.

The bug can (hopefully) be reproduced as follows:

1. Draw an object which can be rotated by arbitrary angles, e.g. a polyline.
2. Select rotation angle different from multiples of 90 deg, e.g. 15 deg.
3. Rotate object - works.

4. Draw second rotatable object, e.g. also a polyline.
5. Glue both objects into a compound object.
6. Rotate by 15 deg - works.

7. Draw a third object which cannot be rotated by arbitrary angles, e.g. a box.
8. Try to rotate the compound (containing the two polylines) by 15 deg -
***FAILS***!

9. Delete box object.
10. Try to rotate the compound - works.

Rotation of the compound only works for multiples of 90 deg, if the box
is present.
