[Bug 1878045] Re: doing dist-upgrade got error related do Broadcom

2021-01-06 Thread Rafael Santos
Greetings!

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 on an Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820 and after
updating the packages today, my Broadcom --- stopped working.

I proceeded with the steps described above:
apt purge bcmwl-kernel-source
apt-get install broadcom-sta-source
apt-get install broadcom-sta-dkms
apt-get install broadcom-sta-common

And it got back to work. I have found this thread searching for a
solution, and as this one is about 20.10, I thought that perhaps sharing
that it also happened to a 20.04 installation recently may help.

[Bug 1906907] Re: Laptop unable to wake up after being suspended

2021-01-05 Thread Rafael Santos
Hello Kleber. I've booted with this new Focal Linux kernel (version
5.4.0-59.65) and the bug still, unfortunately, happens. So I'll have to
keep using kernel version 5.4.0-54.60 until this issue gets fixed.
Anyways, thanks for the update!

[Bug 1906907] Re: Laptop unable to wake up after being suspended

2020-12-13 Thread Rafael Santos
Hey, I reproduced the same issue on both 5.0.4.56#62 and 5.0.4.58#64 and
then created a file from 'journalctl -b -1 -k' output on the working
5.0.4.54#60 kernel version. I'll attach both of them on subsequent
comments, hope you guys can solve it. Thanks for your time!

[Bug 1906907] [NEW] Laptop unable to wake up after being suspended

2020-12-04 Thread Rafael Santos
Public bug reported:

Laptop was unable to wake up after being suspended by lid's closing,
resulting in a blank black screen, while LEDs on the laptop showed that
it had woken up. This bug happened using kernel 5.4.0-56.62, and it was
"solved" by changing the kernel used to version 5.4.0-54.60, in which
the default behavior of suspension when lid was closed and lock/login
screen after lid being lifted up ocurred as it always was.

[Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2009-05-07 Thread Rafael Santos
I' ve just had a very similar problem with two Compaq nc 8430 laptops --
one had some fan problems so I' ve transferred the disk to other to
continue working. I use Ubuntu 8.04. On the new laptop (same as the old
one) I had several times this problem -- the mouse pointer moves, either
with the touchpad or with a external USB mouse (tried two different
ones), but sometimes clicking on the mouse or trackpad did nothing, as
described by others in this thread. Frantic alt-tab or changing the
active desktop sometimes worked, sometimes not.

I removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf in hopes the system would recreate it, and
suddenly everything came back to normal (except I still don't have a
/etc/X11/xorg.conf).

I have no idea how or why it worked, but it is working right now. Any
clues?
