[Bug 1290460] Re: Mythbuntu Installer Crashes: File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/mythbuntu_common/vnc.py, line 58, in create_password ValueError: Password should be passed as bytes

2014-05-19 Thread Regen
Testing booting from ISO into live environment:
- enable trusty-proposed
- update ONLY mythbuntu-live-autostart from 0.69 to 0.70
- disable trusty-proposed
- Use desktop icon to install Mythbuntu
This installation fails.

Testing again, booting from ISO into live environment:
- enable trusty-proposed
- update 2 packages:
  - mythbuntu-common from 0.73 to 0.74
  - mythbuntu-live-autostart from 0.69 to 0.70
- disable trusty-proposed
- Use desktop icon to install Mythbuntu, including ticking VNC
This installation succeeds, and VNC works on first boot.

[Bug 1290460] Re: Mythbuntu Installer Crashes: File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/mythbuntu_common/vnc.py, line 58, in create_password ValueError: Password should be passed as bytes

2014-05-19 Thread Regen
Hi Dallas,
Updates available in -proposed are not fully tested and verified as working. If
you have installed all updates available from -proposed you may have installed
something that is not working properly. You may find it simpler to erase your
hard disk and start again.

I can personally vouch for using the following method as I have used
this and I have my Mythbuntu box running in Prod, including a high WAF
;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wife_acceptance_factor

Install Mythbuntu with the VNC option unticked.
After the installation is finished and you have booted from the hard disk,
install VNC and set the password manually:
Open a terminal (Applications System Xfce Terminal) and type the
following commands:
  sudo apt-get install x11vnc
  mkdir $HOME/.vnc
  x11vnc -storepasswd $HOME/.vnc/passwd
Install all other updates are you would normally. Do NOT include updates from
-proposed.
Reboot.

If you look in MCC it will now show VNC as already installed (Enabled),
but don't touch it. It is already working.

Looking at the logs in bug 1320439 (testing results), it is the same
error but on line 59 instead of line 58. This indicates that it is using
the new vnc.py, but still failing, so I will mark this as verification-

[Bug 1290460] Re: Mythbuntu Installer Crashes: File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/mythbuntu_common/vnc.py, line 58, in create_password ValueError: Password should be passed as bytes

2014-05-17 Thread Regen
I can confirm that at least one scenario works.

When booting from hard disk with Mythbuntu 14.04 amd64 installed:
- enable trusty-proposed
- update mythbuntu-common from 0.73 to 0.74
- use Mythbuntu Control Centre to install VNC, including setting the password
VNC is installed successfully and the password works after a reboot.

When booting from ISO into live environment:
- enable trusty-proposed
- update mythbuntu-common from 0.73 to 0.74
- disable trusty-proposed
- Use desktop icon to install Mythbuntu
the installation crashes with a different error:
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module overlay-scrollbar
Submitted this as bug 1320439, as an easy way to provide details.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1320439

This crash does not happen if VNC is not ticked in the installation
options.

Is anyone else able to confirm that updating mythbuntu-common from 0.73
to 0.74 in the live environment before installing to hard disk works? I
can't figure out how to avoid this crash. If anyone is able to advise
how to avoid this crash I'm happy to try testing again.

[Bug 1290460] Re: Mythbuntu Installer Crashes

2014-04-20 Thread Regen
Caused by the VNC plugin installer and acknowledged by Thomas Mashos (Mythbuntu
team).
http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2014-April/362863.html

The workaround is to install without the VNC plugin ticked and then later
install VNC and set the password manually:
sudo apt-get install x11vnc
mkdir $HOME/.vnc
x11vnc -storepasswd $HOME/.vnc/passwd

Attempting to install via Mythbuntu Control Centre after the
installation has finished causes the same error.

Public bug reported:

Mythbuntu 14.04 crashes during install and the installation is not able

Both the x64 (amd64) and x86 (i386) installers crash during install with
the same error.

Tested on a VMware Workstation v9 VM and found the same issue.

[Bug 546992] Re: Xubuntu 10.04 USB, CD and DVD automount fails if autologin is on

2010-05-05 Thread Regen
Lionel,
I am very new to Linux, so I am not sure what I should be doing with your PPA.
I have been to
https://launchpad.net/~mrpouit/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/1124104/+listing-archive-extra
and clicked on libthunar-vfs-1-2_1.0.1-3ubuntu1.1~ppa1_i386.deb, then chose to
open it with the default option of GDebi Package Installer. This prompted about
there being a more trusted package (already installed or something? I forget
the exact message), but I chose to continue installing and it seemed to be
successful. Synaptic Package Manager shows it as the installed version. When I
click on thunar-data_1.0.1-3ubuntu1.1~ppa1_all.deb it seems to run through an
installation very quickly, but I don't get a message about it having installed
successfully, and Synaptic Package Manager shows the installed version as
1.0.1-3ubuntu1. However when I click on thunar_1.0.1-3ubuntu1.1~ppa1_i386.deb
and it starts installing it stops with a Status: Error: Dependency is not
satisfiable: thunar-data (= 1.0.1-3ubuntu1.1~ppa1).

Can someone please tell me if I am doing something wrong? I'm happy to
test this patch, but I am guessing my way along at the moment.

2010-05-05 Thread Regen
Lionel,
I added your PPA to my Software Sources and installed them successfully. They
show the right versions in Synaptic Package Manager.

Unfortunately it does not make a difference in either Mythbuntu 10.04 or
Xubuntu 10.04. Both of these were fresh builds to remove any previous
modifications. Note however that I have not installed any other
available updates. I will have to try that tonight after work and see if
it makes any difference.

[Bug 546992] Re: Xubuntu 10.04 usb automount fails if autologin is on

2010-05-03 Thread Regen
This bug also prevents auto-mounting of CDs and DVDs in Mythbuntu 10.04
(Mythbuntu is a cut down version of Ubuntu with Xfce and MythTV). Auto-
mounting worked as expected in Mythbuntu 9.10.

Auto-login is turned on.
Logoff and manually login fixes it.
Editing /etc/rc.local to add hald does not seem to work.
Running sudo -i first and then as root typing hald does not seem to work.

I've attached the logs requested.
auto-login.xsession-errors is directly after booting, exiting MythTV, and
loading a CD into sr0.
manual-login.xsession-errors is after doing the above, logging off, login
manually, and load the same CD.
dmesg.log.txt is a copy of /var/log/dmesg. I don't have /var/log/dmesg.log, so
I guess this it.
dmesg.txt is a copy of the output of dmesg command. It seems to have a bit more
than /var/log/dmesg.

I realise there are 3 lines of errors in dmesg.txt:
[ 70.039275] sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: Xdread, Read track info 52 01
00 00 00 01 00 00 08 00

[ 70.039304] sr: Add. Sense: Unable to recover table-of-contents
but these errors still occur even when auto-mounting is successful:

[Bug 164392] Re: Freeze on applications for a few seconds

2008-01-29 Thread Regen
I have had this problem for as long as i have had ubuntu (about 6 months), a
application freezes for about 10 seconds or so. the window gets gray, i can
move mouse and other apps are (offen) okey during the freeze.
I have a laptop aswell, and have 1,5 gigabytes of memory, have neer had the
problem in windows and the freezes seemingly comes at random.
the duration of the freeze however, is not random. So my only guess is some
sort of thing that get a timeout thingy?

now i am running
Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

just wanted you to notice this problem again...pretty anoying when
lissening to music or watching video:(
