But I tried to follow this guid to fix ugly and big plymouth resolution

http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Fix-the-Big-and-Ugly-Plymouth-
Logo-in-Ubuntu-10-04-140810.shtml

Re: [Bug 762203] Re: Computer is not turned off at shutdown

2011-08-25 Thread Reny
try this:
1) startup pc, at grub menu choose recovery kernel mode
2) at console menu (that with red backgroud) choose resume normal
3) login at console with your account
4) in console sudo service gdm start
5) do login in gnome
7) now try to shutdown or reboot from menu

let me knowthis work for me, but annoying :(

2011/8/25 Stan Schymanski 762...@bugs.launchpad.net

I am having the same issue on my Dell Latitude E6320 and 2.6.38-11-generic
kernel, and it is very reliable now. Every time I want to reboot, the screen
goes blank and nothing happens. Do search for some relevant log messages, I
did it step by step: 15:14 requested reboot, 15:21: forced shut down by
holding down the power button, 15:25 boot.
I could not find anything relevant for the critical time between 15:14 and
15:21 in the log files. The kernel logging wtopped at 15:14, and the syslog
 only shows:
Aug 25 15:14:42 sppc26 kernel: Kernel logging (proc) stopped.
 Aug 25 15:14:42 sppc26 rsyslogd: [origin software=rsyslogd
 swVersion=4.6.4 x-pid=794 x-info=http://www.rsyslog.com;] exiting on
 signal 15.
 Aug 25 15:25:39 sppc26 kernel: imklog 4.6.4, log source = /proc/kmsg
 started.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
I upgraded Maverick to Natty about two weeks ago. Since then, my computer
does not turn off itself. So, I click in the upper right corner (I'm running
Gnome2) and click Shut Down. All programs are closed, I see the Ubuntu logo
(and I can click Esc to see the terminal during shutdown).
At some point, I notthing seems to happen anymore and the computer stays
on. I press CTRL-SysReq REISUB. The computer restarts and I press the power
button to power off the computer.

I would love to help solving this bug, so which log files do you need?
