[Bug 862662] Re: No startup notification when launching applications
A partial workaround : install package lightdm-gtk-greeter. This will enable startup notifications (spining cursor) for GTK+ apps launched from the dash or opening an associated file. [Bug 860837] [NEW] Active window "half" looses focus when another one is sent to the front automatically
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: * You need to use some app that gets automatically sent to the front at some moment, like Update Manager or Synaptic. Start updating or installing packages. * While Update Manager is downloading, use another app, say Firefox. -> At some point, Update Manager gets automatically sent to the front (while updating the cache or starting to install). Observed behaviour: * The unfocused Update Manager window is in front of Firefox (the global menu still shows the menu of Firefox) * Clicking on the Firefox window (if visible) or on the Firefox icon in the launcher (if Update Manager or Synaptic is fullscreen) does NOT bring it back to the front. * You have to focus the Update Manager window, then click on the Firefox one to put it to the front. Expected behaviour : * if a window is sent to the front, it should get the focus. * or... if an active window is behind another (non-sticky) window, any action on it (and a click on its launcher icon) should bring it to the front * a solution for Bug #748840 might fix this bug too. [Bug 798304] [NEW] No busy cursor when opening a file with a non-GTK app
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus A similar bug was filed 2 years ago for Openoffice (Bug #411035). I'm filing this new report as it seems to me that it does not affect openoffice or libreoffice in particular, but all non-GTK apps. Please feel free to mark this as duplicate and change the affected package in bug #411035 if needed. This bug could be a good papercut for the oneiric cycle, as it affects a lot of people, has a rather important effect on the default desktop experience and should be quite easy to fix (though i have no idea on how to do that). Opening a file from nautilus or from the unity file lens with a non-GTK application does not display a busy cursor while the application is starting. This behavior raises two problems: * The desktop experience is inconsistent, as GTK and non-GTK apps do not behave the same way. * Most importantly, on slow (i.e. netbooks) and middle-range computer, the application may take several seconds to start, without any feedback to the user. Most of the time, i have experienced that the user believes that the computer is not doing anything. He/she double-clicks again (and again). Then the file opens twice or more times. Frustrating. Applications that I have tested: Libreoffice, VLC, Scribus, Audacity. Steps to reproduce: * Open a libreoffice file from nautilus or the Unity file lens. * or... open any other file with a non-GTK app (VLC / .avi, Scribus / .sla, Audacity / .mp3 etc.) Observed : nothing, until the application starts Expected: a busy mouse cursor is displayed until the application starts ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: nautilus 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: i386 Date: Thu Jun 16 11:29:09 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=es_DO:fr:en LANG=es_DO.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-04-30 (46 days ago) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 natty running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/798304 Title: No busy cursor when opening a file with a non-GTK app To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/798304/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 746628] [NEW] Light themes should disable the gtk3 backported resize grip
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: light-themes Rationale: * Ambiance and Radiance theme now have a 5px invisible resize grip all around windows, which makes the backported corner resize grip unnecessary. * The backported resize grip overlaps any element located at the right bottom corner of the window, like scrollbar buttons, other buttons, text, and so on... This affects the functionality and appearance of many applications. To name a few, Banshee, Firefox, Thunderbird, Software center... Other applications have been patched recently (Synaptic, the Appearance preferences...). * The effort to patch the applications one by one (as apparently planned at https://launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+milestone/nt9-grippy) will probably not solve the problem entirely (ie. for all applications). Suggested solution: * Disable the corner grip in light themes. * Enable the invisible 5px grip for all themes and remove completely the gtk3 backport would be ideal. ** Affects: light-themes (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/746628 Title: Light themes should disable the gtk3 backported resize grip -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My wrong: natty's kernel randomly hangs on boot on my hardware, whether patched or not. But: the patched kernel does solve this bug for me. Still getting the dmesg error, though the interrupt is 0x0008 instead of 0x0003. @Andy: i've installed natty (went fine) and tried your patched kernel: it hangs on boot on my Acer 4520, as it does with Maverick. [Bug 604122] Re: mmc0: Got command interrupt 0x00030000 even though no command operation was in progress.
Further observations: - my HP PSC 2355 printer could not read the SD card either (error message on the printer screen) - my computer has been able to mount and normally read / write on the card before. I had borrowed the card from friends and i've given it back now so i won't be able to test it further. @Jean-Louis: you might want to format the card with your camera and see if the problem persists. I suspect that the bug is triggered by a particular state of the file-system on the SD card. ** Tags removed: needs-kernel-logs -- mmc0: Got command interrupt 0x0003 even though no command operation was in progress. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
