[Bug 2065639] [NEW] Splash screen shows Ubuntu 23.10 instead of 24.04 and forces logout
Public bug reported: We performed a minimal install of Ubuntu Server 24.04, disabled swap. This is a machine with limited resources (8GB SSD, 2GB RAM). Installed ubuntu-desktop-minimal, stopped/disabled/removed gdm3; installed lightdm and rebooted. After reboot we see the maroon X splash asking us to login. However at the bottom right of the screen it says "Ubuntu 23.10", not "Ubuntu 24.04". When we login by entering the password we get a white screen with a sad face icon and the words: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again." Trying again results in the same problems. The above set of install steps works fine using the Ubuntu Server ISO for Ubuntu 22.04.4. [Bug 1485816] [NEW] k3b: no provsion to simply verify a Blu-ray DVD
Public bug reported: 14.04 LTS k3b 2.0.2 This is filed in concert with bug report #1485811. After the failure to begin verification that I described in that report, I attempted to start a standalone verification of the DVD against the input .ISO file, which I had instructed k3b not to delete. The k3b GUI immediately informed me that I should Insert an empty Blu-Ray medium into drive. That wasn't likely to help, so I didn't bother doing it. Once again: if additional information is required, let me know what it is. ( I should mention that the inability to simply verify a medium may not be limited to Blu-Ray DVDs. I didn't test further.) ** Affects: k3b (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1485816 Title: k3b: no provsion to simply verify a Blu-ray DVD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/k3b/+bug/1485816/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 542183] Re: [users-admin] Changing UID doesn't work
I find this bug was fixed on 23/4/2010, but I have just been bitten again on 26/11/2010 using a fully updated Lucid LTS. I know I can work round this using the command line, but ... I need educating on the process by which bugs are fed back and fixed in Ubuntu releases, especially in LTS releases, where users do want to upgrade until the next LTS comes along. I tried upgrading to 10.10 on one machine to leave more serious bugs behind, but was immediately hit by other regressions. Can anyone point me towards a starting point for my education process? Many would be more enthusiastic about reporting and following up bugs if they could see the results more clearly. [Bug 366835] Re: in 9.04 for AMD64, nedit will not copy to clipboard
I'm having the same type of problems with nedit in Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64. Nedit works OK at first, then starts to malfunction - as you say, at inopportune times! Copy-paste by highlighting and middle-mouse click, or by menu, starts failing to work within the same window. Meanwhile, copy-pasting from elsewhere (eg xterm window) DOES work. On another tab, everything seems normal. Today I tried to close down the offending tab by right clicking on it. The result was that the mouse pointer was trapped within the menu bar. All I could do then was CNRTL-ALT F1 to do a text login and kill nedit. But in the middle of that, X on F7 crashed and restarted. Log message: Aug 24 15:23:24 joseph kernel: [443474.418222] nedit[9190]: segfault at 2 ip 7fee622493d9 sp 7fff731f81e0 error 4 in libXm.so.2.0.1[7fee6219+163000] From reports elsewhere, this kind of nedit/lesstif problem has been around for some time. [Bug 591574] [NEW] Plymouth on Intel 945GME shifts resolution at end of boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth I have tried most if not all of the Plymouth themes - the results are always the same. Using the Script theme as an example: 1) the splash screen is correct for about 8 seconds, the log is in the middle of the screen; 2) then goes black; 3) then the splash screen re-appears, but now the logo is almost twice as large and is positioned at the bottom right of the screen, partially off the screen. 4) then the Gnome desktop appears. It is my understanding that the resolution and splash screen should stay constant throughout the boot process - it certainly does not look pleasing with the above behaviour. I have set the contents of /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash to FRAMEBUFFER=y - which caused to Plymouth to work (to the extent it does). Other changes (e.g. i915.modeset=0/1) have not made a difference. The exact same thing happens with a simple background with centered logo - i.e. not using a progress bar or any callbacks. We are using Ubuntu 10.04 Server edition, to which I have added a minimal Gnome system. The system's purpose is to run as a dedicated appliance running a single GUI application. [Bug 564202] [NEW] Upstart file runs mongodb badly; fixed in upstream
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mongodb The upstart file in the package currently in Ubuntu is somewhat older than the one we're publishing upstream; some user reported that running mongodb under su interacted badly with the desktop (IIRC, he couldn't shut down his system from the desktop, because the su command left a login shell around, or somesuch). The attached upstart file uses start- stop-daemon, and adds support for inhibiting mongodb startup via a file in /etc/default. ** Affects: mongodb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Upstart file runs mongodb badly; fixed in upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/564202 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 564198] [NEW] mongodb.conf file imported from Debian is no good on Ubuntu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mongodb The mongodb.conf file in the debian/ subdirectory in Ubuntu's repository contains a Debianism that prevents the server from running without manual intervention. The Debian package's sysvinit script supplies some arguments that the upstart script doesn't, and so it's necessary to uncomment some lines in the config file that the Debian maintainer commented out. [Bug 520610] Re: mongodb sync request
IIUC, the next step here is to request a freeze exception. Release managers: we (10gen) receive frequent requests for mongodb packages, and think it'd be helpful to Ubuntu users who want to use mongodb if there were in Lucid. [Bug 520610] Re: mongodb sync request
We'd like to have a stable MongoDB version in official releases of Debian and Ubuntu. 1.3.x is our unstable/development branch, and IMO it was sort of a mistake that that's what got into Debian sid. Maybe this will help: as of a couple days ago, there is a mongodb-1.2 package in Debian's new package queue at http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html So perhaps the package we'd like synced is mongodb-1.2. -- mongodb sync request https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520610 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 520610] Re: mongodb sync request
I don't exactly understand the contents of but #399470, but the debian packaging files in the Debian package are up to date and functional. [Bug 399470] Re: [needs-packaging] mongodb
Note: the debian packaging files in the Debian package (which are substantially equivalent to those in upstream's git repository) are sufficient for building the package on Lucid snapshots. [Bug 520610] [NEW] mongodb sync request
Public bug reported: Please sync the package mongodb from Debian sid main, version 1.3.1. (Note: 1.3.1, is a development version from upstream, so we're asking the Debian developer to downgrade to our latest stable, 1.2.2; ultimately, we'd like the 1.2.2 release in Lucid.) AFAIK, there are no notable differences between what ought to be in Debian and Ubuntu. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- mongodb sync request https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520610 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199934] Re: Kernel Panic, in gdth (RAID) driver on reboot
I'm a bit of a noobie with Ubuntu. Was moving one of my servers over to Ubuntu server 8.0.4 when this issue hit us with our Intel SRCU42L RAID controller. I followed the instruction on the link at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed and now I've gone into aptitude after enabling the -proposed, like so sudo aptitude -t hardy-proposed Is this list of packages all that is needed (from the post by Mike Bianchi on 8/21): linux-image-2.6.24-21-generic linux-headers-2.6.24-21 linux-headers-2.6.24-21-generic linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-21-generic I do not find the last package. Tried substituting proposed for restricted that does not work either. Thanks in advance for help.
