[Bug 2063952] Re: 22.04 to 23.10 upgrade fails, kubuntu-desktop is not installable.

2024-05-04 Thread Rik Mills
I can see from the logs that you must have packages from the backports-
extra PPA on your system, to get newest plasma 5.27. The packages in
that are backported from 24.04, so are newer than those found 23.10.
This is likely the source of most of the conflicts and refusal to
upgrade.

Re-enabling the backports PPA then removing it with ppa-purge may be a
solution to at least some of this. I would note that 22.04 to 23.10
upgrades is non standard and not a path that really gets tested.

wireplumber already conflicts/replaces pipewire-media-session

It was not shown in the image I posted on IRC, but pipewire-media-
session was 'removed' at the start of the apt full-upgrade

Sadly it was removed and NOT purged

Currently in Kubuntu Kinetic it is required to 'apt purge pipewire-
media-session' to get things working if you also remove pulseaudio to
complete the pipewire switch

[Bug 1965439] Re: software-properties-qt can no longer launch when called by kdesu

2022-05-13 Thread Rik Mills
Seems to be caused by: https://salsa.debian.org/sudo-
team/sudo/-/commit/59db341d46aa4c26b54c1270e69f2562e7f3d751

Commenting out the: 'Defaults use_pty' in /etc/suduoers seems to fix
things for me.

Now as that was added to fix a CVE, reverting that probably isn't a easy
fix

The backtrace looked very similar to the nextcloud-desktop crash on
startup when built with LTO enabled. Confirmed that building with LTO
turned off for kstars likewise fixes the startup crash.

That is not a version found in the Ubuntu archive. It appears to be from
a 3rd party PPA, and as such the problem is theirs to solve.

Marking as invalid for the Ubuntu archive version

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/jammy-desktop-
amd64.manifest

contains a list of included packages and their versions. The fixed ISO
would have ubiquity 22.04.9 instead of the broken ubiquity 22.04.8

As already stated, the bug has a fix committed to -proposed, but will
take some time to get to the daily ISO builds. This will happen one way
or another for the Beta later in the week.

It IS a different issue, but related to an error in the fix for the
other bug.

[Bug 1965439] Re: Driver manager KCM can no longer launch

2022-03-21 Thread Rik Mills
The fix from Erich Eickmeyer has been uploaded for kubuntu-settings.

However, as this is a non-optimal solution that spawns an xterm window,
I do not consider this completely 'fixed'.

Hopefully a better solution can be found before release.

[Bug 1964982] [NEW] [FFe] KDE frameworks 5.92.0 into Jammy archive

2022-03-15 Thread Rik Mills
Public bug reported:

This bug report is a Feature Freeze Exception request on behalf of the
Kubuntu team for KDE Frameworks 5.92.0 (updated from 5.91.0).

Announcement and changelog:
https://kde.org/announcements/frameworks/5/5.92.0/

As is usual with a KDE Frameworks release, this is a mixture of new some
new features and incremental important bugfixes.

Please note that most of the new KDE Frameworks features are not going
to be effective yet, since we are not updating to major versions of
KDE's Plasma or KDE's Applications. So this is, in practice, largely
like a bugfix release.

We currently have this staged in https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-
ppa/+archive/ubuntu/staging-
frameworks/+packages?field.name_filter=_filter=published_filter=jammy
if you wish to inspect the packages.

We also have testers that have been running a system with this staged
update and have reported no problems.

I/we also commit to fixing any issue that might be inadvertently
introduced with this update.

A bit of experimentation with a fix making sure values are returned as
the expected integer type, show that there are at LEAST 2 other places
in the code that then cause a crash for the same reason.

e.g. KNS resource fetch and install, pkgkit, snap etc. Have not noticed

The KDE dev seems stumped for a test case, but would be pleased to have
one if we work one out. :/

[Bug 1962449] [NEW] [SRU to impish] Mitigate KNS load on KDE servers

2022-02-28 Thread Rik Mills
Public bug reported:

See:
https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/distributions/2022-February/001140.html

Dear distributors,
In the last few days, we have been looking into mitigating the impact
of Discover against certain KDE web services.

Some of the problems can be addressed in the service itself but not
them entirely, so it would be useful if the following changes were
backported into your own packaging. We have already included it in our
stable branches but on the distributions that ship unsupported
versions of our software it would be useful you can apply these
patches.

https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/knewstuff/-/commit/c8165b7a0d622e318b3353ccf257a8f229dd12c9
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/knewstuff/-/commit/e1c6f2bf383876a31cd3e3f9e6edcaa19dc0a7dd

https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/commit/b85cf34298c274b5f16cb6c2aead7b87f0dabbb8
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/commit/6257e21c313e21afd80d101d24c78d66621236b1

If you feel unsure about the patch on a specific branch, feel free to
contact me here or in private and I will backport it if necessary.

Impact]

 * Effectively a DDOS on some KDE servers that were not intended to take
this traffic

[Test Plan]

 * Test that Discover functions normally with the changes. e.g. KNS,
packagekit, snap backends work as intended.

[Where problems could occur]

 * Could fail to fetch resources, crash etc. It will need to be tested
with a reasonable sample of these that this does not happen.

** Affects: plasma-discover (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: plasma-discover (Ubuntu Impish)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: In Progress

** Also affects: plasma-discover (Ubuntu Impish)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: plasma-discover (Ubuntu Impish)
   Status: New => In Progress
