Observing same behavior on thinkpad x1 carbon (3rd edition) with
4.13.0-11-generic (I'm tracking the 17.10 release before it's released)

[Bug 1581560] Re: system crash when attaching external display

2016-06-27 Thread Rob Latham
The 'bios-outdated-1.13' tag confuses me.

It's true that I am running (dmidecode says...) Vendor: LENOVO Version:
N14ET29W (1.07 )

but there is no mention of display fixes in the release notes that
accompany n14ur12w (1.13).

I can update my bios but wanted to understand if the tag addition was
for fixing a known issue or was something I should try to see if it
helps.

As a reminder, Ubuntu-15.10 handled this display fine with the same bios
version.

[Bug 1581560] Re: system crash when attaching external display

2016-06-21 Thread Rob Latham
I tried an upstream kernel ( 4.4.12-040412-generic #201606011712 ).
Attaching after suspend/resume no longer results in a crash.

The screen frequently fails to restore on the first try. dmesg has
these lines in that case:

[drm:intel_mst_disable_dp [i915]] *ERROR* failed to update payload -22
[drm] GPU HANG: ecode 8:-1:0x, reason: Kicking stuck wait on blitter
ring, action: continue
[drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO
underrun

But, in an improvement from the Ubuntu kernel, I can unplug and try
again with success.

[Bug 1581560] [NEW] system crash when attaching external display

2016-05-13 Thread Rob Latham
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 16.04, my thinkpad x1 carbon (3rd edition) freezes
and reboots when I attach an external display.

Process:
- put laptop to sleep.
- come into work the next day
- open up laptop
- plug in external display
- observe bug

Expected behavior: I can attach the external display
Observed behavior: system shows black screen on both laptop and display and
after a minute or two reboots. Laptop drives external display fine after
reboot.

I ssh to the laptop from another machine and monitored /var/log/syslog,
/var/log/Xorg.0.log, and ~/.xsession-errors. All I see in those files
before the lockup is this, from Xorg.0.log:

[ 34289.447] (II) intel(0): Enabled output DP1-8
[ 34289.448] (II) intel(0): Enabled output DP1-1
[ 34289.460] (II) intel(0): resizing framebuffer to 2560x1440
[ 34289.482] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 2560x1440@60.0 on DP1-8 using pipe 0,

[Bug 583954] Re: ibus-daemon applet leaks memory badly

2010-06-02 Thread Rob Latham
Li Daobing's suggestion (#8) to update from Shawn P Huang's PPA does
seem to help the problem quite a bit. There is a much much smaller leak
of about 2 bytes per input method switch, but that is much better than
the version in 10.4

2010-03-23 Thread Rob Latham
Hi. I have not seen this problem in a long time. I had forgotten I
even opened this bug.

[Bug 428660] [NEW] powertop segfault in strstr

2009-09-12 Thread Rob Latham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powertop

Ubuntu karmic updated september 11th
powertop-1.11-1
kernel: 2.6.31-10-generic

powertop parses the kernel config to make suggestions about things to
turn on and off. On karmic, however, the kernel config
(/boot/config-2.6.31-10-generic) is one line too big, and the statically
allocated config buffer cannot hold it all. jaunty kernels had about
4000 lines of config, but karmic kernels have 5001 lines.

What I epxect to happen: powertop runs longer than 5 seconds
what actually happened: powertop segfaults immediately after displaying one
screenful of power usage

Fix: in config.c, increase static char configlines to 6000

** Affects: powertop (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 360168] Re: Do.exe crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2009-04-12 Thread Rob Latham
I did have evo open to my contacts page, but way over in workspace 5,
while I was typing away in a terminal on workspace 2. Not really sure
what part of that caused the crash. Will follow up if I can find a
reliable test case.

I'm happy to report that suspend/resume seems to be working with this weeks

[Bug 350290] Re: [LENOVO 7454CTO] x200 suspend failure

2009-03-29 Thread Rob Latham
I wanted to follow up with some information requested in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume

This report is a failure to suspend. I haven't been able to test resume
(obviously : )

This failure to suspend happens 100% reliably.

Suspend/resume on this laptop worked OK on Hardy. Furthermore, I was
running Jaunty kernels on Hardy and that combination worked OK as well.

I don't get a flashing caps lock.

[Bug 65176] Re: T43p laptop unable resume after second suspend

I see this behavior on my thinkpad x40, also with very-latest edgy. I
don't have much debug information yet, but wanted you to know you were
not alone.

[Bug 56365] Re: X crashes on second resume from suspend-to-ram on Thinkpad X41

2006-10-13 Thread Rob Latham
I'm seeing a similar inability to come back from sleep on a thinkpad
x40. Green moon flashes, but I cannot interact with the computer in any
meaningful way except to power it off.
