[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2015-10-31 Thread Robert Di Gioia
This also impacts me. Screen becomes garbled quicker if Firefox is
running. Screen takes a bit longer to become garbled if only Thunderbird
is running.

I tried Cory's fix above, and it hasn't garbled the screen in about 45
minutes minutes with Firefox, Thunderbird, and other graphical apps
running simultaneously. On my system the file
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf didn't exist, so I created it
with the contents that Cory provided.

[Bug 231804] Re: Network doesn't start automatically

2008-05-25 Thread Robert Di Gioia
Hi

Thanks for looking into this

I commented out my fixes in /etc/init.d/networking, and I removed
/var/run/network/ifstate, but upon reboot, networking did not start.
ifconfig attached.

ifdown -a
ifup -a

resolved it again.

Yes, the /etc/rcS.d/S40networking symlink is present, otherwise my fix

[Bug 231804] [NEW] Network doesn't start automatically

2008-05-18 Thread Robert Di Gioia
Public bug reported:

Since upgrade to Hardy production release, my network does not start
automatically on boot.

If I run

sudo ifdown -a
sudo ifup -a

Then network starts fine. Since it is annoying to have to do this on
each boot, I added an ifdown -a prior to the ifup -a in
/etc/init.d/networking (lines X and Y) in attached file.

My setup:

eth0: wired connection, normally not used at home
eth1: wireless connection, primary connection, Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless
3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)

I've also attached related messages from dmesg.

I do some support work answering questions on answers.launchpad.net, I
have seen this behavior from other users several times, doing the
ifdown/ifup combo has resolved most of the users issues.

Thanks for a great system!

[Bug 139665] Re: apparmor profile error messages

2008-03-29 Thread Robert Di Gioia
Hi Till

Thanks for working on this, and sorry for the slow response, its been a
busy week.

My system is up to date, with the updated version of cupsys installed
(see below for output of dpkg-query -W), but my
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd has not been updated since January.
However, since I reported it in December, maybe it has been that long
since it was fixed...either way, my system is working well.

Thanks again!

[Bug 190359] [NEW] dhclient continually seeks ip address on unconnected interface

2008-02-08 Thread Robert Di Gioia
Public bug reported:

I run an up-to-date Gutsy Gibbon (7.10) on a no-name laptop. I use
wireless network with WPA supplicant almost exclusively.

Recently, after the latest round of updates, I have noticed that my
syslog is getting flooded with messages from dhclient. It appears that
every four minutes, dhclient is trying to obtain an IP address for eth0,
which is the wired interface, and is not connected. Each time dhclient
runs, it outputs between 5 and 7 lines into /var/log/syslog.

Running the command sudo ifdown eth0 stops the messages.

Previously (i.e. before the last couple of weeks or so), the system did
not continually try to obtain an IP on the unconnected wired interface
eth0.

[Bug 42121] Re: Symlinks for umountnfs / sendsigs wrong: hang on shutdown / reboot

2008-02-08 Thread Robert Di Gioia
Did this fix make hardy? Putting a failure message up after usplash
stops doesn't seem too user friendly.

BTW, my main network connection is wireless, so I fixed it on my system
by unmounting cifs and smbfs filesystems just before S15wpa-ifupdown
runs by creating a script based on S40umountfs that only unmounts cifs
and smbfs filesystems. I run it as S14umountcifs :)

[Bug 42115] Re: Clicking on date in calendar applet open previous date in Evolution

2007-12-21 Thread Robert Di Gioia
after reviewing this bug, it appears that it was fixed in Edgy.

I'm using Gutsy, and still it is opening the wrong date.

The command evolution calendar:///?startdate=$(date +"%Y%m%dT%H%M%SZ")
opens Evolution with the correct date.

My locale (LANG) is en_US.UTF-8

My timezone is America/New York (Eastern).

Should I open a new bug for this or is updating this bug sufficient?

[Bug 139665] Re: apparmor profile error messages

2007-12-15 Thread Robert Di Gioia
Hi. Since upgrade from fiesty to gutsy, I've been getting apparmor
messages when I print. My printer is connected to an XP box, so I'm
using samba.

Dec 15 17:20:51 gandalf kernel: [26194.092000] audit(1197757250.417:11):
type=1503 operation="file_mmap" requested_mask="mr" denied_mask="m"
name="/usr/share/samba/lowcase.dat" pid=7208 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd"
Dec 15 17:20:51 gandalf kernel: [26194.16] audit(1197757250.417:12):
type=1503 operation="file_mmap" requested_mask="mr" denied_mask="m"
name="/usr/share/samba/valid.dat" pid=7208 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd"

After reading up on apparmor, and reviewing
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd, and noticing that there is a samba
profile in the /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions directory, I tried adding
the following line to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd, and it no longer
generates messages when printing. I added it to the end of the #include
section.

#include

My thought is that it may be good to add samba to the apparmor cups
profile on a go-forward basis to keep syslog noise down.

Hope that this is of some help.
