[Bug 1044056] [NEW] No default appearance style after installing xfce4.

2012-08-30 Thread Robert Kulagowski
Public bug reported:

I installed the xfce4 meta package and a few other goodies to compare
Unity to xfce.

After rebooting and logging with a session manager of xfce4, I clicked
terminal emulator, which launched Gnome Terminal 3.4.1.1

An emulator window opened with title bar, etc, but the I/O emulator
window was black.

Typing in the window appeared to be doing _something_, so I checked to
see if there were any settings within the terminal regarding color.
Nothing.

Went to Applications - Settings - Appearance - and selected the
first style Ambiance. The Gnome Terminal window immediately displayed
the text that I had blind-typed earlier.

[Bug 1014663] [NEW] Dell R310 server with LSI SAS 1068E B3 requires rootdelay to boot

2012-06-18 Thread Robert Kulagowski
Public bug reported:

After installation, and rebooting without the install media, by default
the administrator gets dumped to busybox.

Typing exit allows the boot to continue successfully.

Adding rootdelay=60 to the grub configuration allows the system to
boot automatically.

BUG: Ubuntu Server Edition 12.04 Installer does not recognize that this
particular controller requires additional time to initialize the disks
and doesn't prepare a correct grub.cfg file.

Proposed solution: add rootdelay=60 as a default. If the server _does_
need the delay, then having the parameter as a default means that the
administrator doesn't have to start searching google during an
installation at 3AM. :)

Since servers are typically booted and left running, (as opposed to a
desktop system, where booting needs to be as fast as possible), a 60
second delay on a machine that may have an uptime of 600 days seems like
a small price to pay.

Also, the Server Admin Guide could probably include a short section regarding
this issue.

Robert, did you ever resolve this?  There's a similar report from Nick
Bray here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/10/26/191 with screenshots that
show a very similar backtrace.  In Nick's case, booting with maxcpus=1
 is a workaround.

The system that I was testing with wasn't a primary machine, so I
deferred taking action on it.

I can get is setup again to see if this is still occurring, so I will
need to make sure that I'm not booting in 3.0.3 in order to get
upgraded.

This is how Unix systems are supposed to behave.  The ~lightdm/.gvfs
filesystem is a private FUSE-mounted filesystem that belongs to the

thing would happen if you had a GVFS filesystem open as yourself and
another user (who was were logged in to the machine via ssh of via the
 switch-user feature) ran df -h.

I certainly see why this text being dumped to stderr on a common command
like df -h feels like an error, though.

This behavior runs deep into the design of the Linux (and all Unix)
kernel, but I'd be interested in any ideas you have about how to modify
the behavior to be more suitable.

I understand how permissions work - it's just odd to run into that as
a standard user. Principle of least surprise, since it wasn't doing
it on my other Ubuntu systems. In any case, I've updated and the
error (or the root cause) appears to be gone now.

[Bug 867838] [NEW] On login, Home, File System icons appear, but then disappear a few seconds later

2011-10-04 Thread Robert Kulagowski
Public bug reported:

After a boot, the login manager presents a black screen with a password field.
Entering the password starts the login process.
The upper and lower panels appear, then the mouse icon in the upper left.
There are three icons on the screen on the left side in a vertical
configuration; they appear to be Filesystem, Home and Trash. The
background is a light blue.
A few second later, the screen refreshes, the background is replaced with a
slightly darker blue, and the icons disappear, so the resulting desktop has no
icons on it at all.

[Bug 807176] [NEW] Network Manager re-writing /etc/resolv.conf to blank at each boot

I am using Ubuntu Natty 11.04 beta and the message appears to me is:

I think it is grammatically correct. Could you please update  your
Ubuntu version and confirm if it is still exist.

 ** Changed in: xfce4-battery-plugin (Ubuntu)
       Status: New = Incomplete

I'm running Natty as you can see in the lsb_release that I pasted at
the top of the bug. I will take a screenshot if that helps.

[Bug 759368] [NEW] man page error in grow section

2011-04-12 Thread Robert Kulagowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mdadm

Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

mdadm:
  Installed: 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4
  Candidate: 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4

The man page states:

RAID levels 1/4/5/6, changing the RAID level between 1, 5, and 6, changing the
chunk size and layout for RAID5 and RAID5, as well as adding or removing a
write-intent bitmap.

Note that it states ...layout for RAID5 and RAID5...

[Bug 759402] [NEW] Poor grammar in battery status message

2011-04-12 Thread Robert Kulagowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-battery-plugin

xfce4-power-manager 1.0.10

Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

Hovering over the battery icon while it is charging presents a status
message. The wording is odd:

8 minutes until is fully charged.

The sentence structure should be updated to include the word it, as in
8 minutes until it is fully charged., or 8 minutes until full
charge.

[Bug 153457] Re: iguanaIR support not functional

2010-04-19 Thread Robert Kulagowski
This issue still hasn't been resolved as of 10.04 Beta 2.

To fully support this device, the following needs to be installed:

libusb-1.0.0 (important, 0.1.4 isn't recent enough and causes channel
change difficulties)

and

http://www.iguanaworks.net/downloads/debian/binary-i386/iguanair_1.0pre2_i386.deb

and

http://www.iguanaworks.net/downloads/lirc_0.8.6-0ubuntu2_i386.deb

which is the pre-compiled LIRC by the IguanaWorks guys because Ubuntu is
still distributing LIRC without the iguanaIR driver compiled in.

[Bug 193094] [NEW] Wormux description in Add/Remove application not contiguous

2008-02-18 Thread Robert Kulagowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wormux

In Add/Remove programs, the full-text description of what the
application does is broken up onto numerous lines rather than word
wrapping.

For example, here is the text:

Wormux
is
a
free game where funny animals fight on a 2D map with funny weapons. Though
currently under heavy development, it is already very playable, with lots of
weapons (Dynamite, Baseball Bat, Teleportation, etc.). For the moment, you can
not play against computer opponents.
There are also lots of maps available for your battling pleasure!
Wormux takes the genre to the next
level,
with
great
customisation options
leading
to
great
gameplay. There is a wide selection of teams, from the Aliens to the Chickens.
Also, new battlefields can be downloaded from the Internet, making strategy an
important part of each battle.

Note how Wormux is a free is on four different lines rather than the
words being next to each other.
