[Bug 155185] Re: More warning about installation

2007-10-20 Thread Robert Stoffers
Hi,

Maybe a blueprint would be a better idea for your suggestion instead of
a bug report. See:

Cheers!

TJ, given that it was commented out, will this stay persistent between

[Bug 8497] Re: grub guessed BIOS disk order incorrectly

2007-10-19 Thread Robert Stoffers
My work around for this which I have been doing for some time is to just
edit my Grub boot line, boot into Ubuntu then alter my menu.lst back to
how it should be. The culprit for me is always the following line for
each kernel listed:

root(hd0,1)

For whatever reason after a kernel update all entries are changed to
root (hd1,1), changing back to the above fixes the problem each time.

Perhaps a better approach is needed to updating the menu.lst file before
more technical measures are attempted. If the script looked at what was
already set and just mimicked it for the new kernel instead of guessing
every time then this issue would go away.

[Bug 151185] Deluge file priority selection does not work

2007-10-10 Thread Robert Stoffers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deluge-torrent

I get the following error when enabling either the Enabling selecting
files for torrents before loading option in the Preferences dialog and
when using the File plugin when I try to select various files when
adding a torrent or trying to select files in an existing torrent:

File priority can only be set when using full allocation.
Please change your preference to disable compact allocation, then remove and
re-add this torrent.

In the Preferences dialog it is set to Use Full Allocation. When
selecting Use Compact Allocation and clicking OK then re-opening the
Preferences dialog the Use Full Allocation is checked.

Note that doing what the error above suggests also does not work due to
the above issue.

Using up to date Gutsy on AMD64.

[Bug 74605] Unable to update Dapper - Edgy via Install CD (Feature Request)

2006-12-06 Thread Robert Stoffers
Public bug reported:

Something that is currently quite annoying to me is the fact that the
install cd cannot be used to upgrade a Dapper system to Edgy. I'm aware
that the alternate cd is required to do this, but I cannot see the sense
in having to download an entire new .iso just to upgrade my Dapper
system when I have already downloaded the base install of Edgy in the
past aka the Install CD.

Please, reinstate the ability to upgrade from the install cd. It
hopefully should be a trivial task (every Debian based distro I have
ever used has this ability) and it would make both my and I'm sure many
others lives much easier. Having to download 500mb off of packages or a
new .iso that contains software we have already downloaded just seems
like a waste to me.

If you are wondering why I don't just do a fresh install, the answer is
that the installer is so slow on my 1ghz 512mb ram laptop that I'd
almost be better off downloading the alternate .iso and doing it that
way (text based installer fallback? I'll log another feature request for
that).

[Bug 74606] Edgy Installation program fallback for slow systems (Feature Request)

2006-12-06 Thread Robert Stoffers
Public bug reported:

I have a 1ghz AMD based laptop with 512mb of ram and the Edgy installer
runs very slowly. So slow in fact that each time you click a button it
takes around 10 minutes for the next screen to come up. I've tried
various solutions such as noapic nolapic on boot without success.

On this same laptop the Dapper installer works fine, so its easy to
suspect that something is wrong with the Edgy installer. What would have
made this all moot however would be an option on boot of the installer
cd to do an old style text based installation instead.

So this feature request is to bring back in some form the ability to do
old-school style text based install with the standard install cd. This
would have made my life much easier!

[Bug 52070] Packaging Guide Chroot Does Not Configure Locales Properly

2006-07-06 Thread Robert Stoffers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

In the Chroot appendix the steps given for configuring locales in the
chroot are incorrect, they don't result in correctly configured locales.

Instead of:

sudo chroot /var/chroot/
apt-get install locales dialog
dpkg-reconfigure locales
exit

It should read something like:

sudo chroot /var/chroot/
apt-get install locales dialog
apt-get install language-pack-en
exit

Of cause one can replace the language pack with a language of their
choice. This then generates locales properly in the chroot.
