[Bug 1515513] [NEW] /boot/initrd.img-*.old-dkms files left behind

2015-11-12 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

One notices *.old-dkms files being left behind still sitting on the disk
after purging the related kernel. This can cause /boot to become full,
and when it gets really bad, even sudo apt-get autoremove won't fix the
problem - only deleting the old-dkms files manually solves the problem.

[Bug 1507743] [NEW] qapt-deb-installer does not display newlines in output

2015-10-19 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

I installed Skype from the Skype website, which I think invoked qapt-
deb-installer. The output from apt-get or dpkg shown in qapt-deb-
installer was OK except that it concatenated all the output onto one
line - for some reason, the newlines that would normally have been
outputted, were either not being output, or being ignored by qapt-deb-
installer.

[Bug 1506217] [NEW] Battery critical and will suspend in 30 seconds - at 54% charged

2015-10-14 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

I got a warning saying my Kubuntu laptop would suspend in 30 seconds
because the battery level was critical. I plugged it into AC power in
less than 30 seconds, however, it had already suspend by that point.
When I pressed the power button to resume the laptop, the KDE login
screen showed the battery at 54% charged, which does not seem like it
should be considered critical.

[Bug 1464187] [NEW] USB headphones too loud after suspend

2015-06-11 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

I have a pair of Plantronics 655 DSP USB headphones. They work fine but
after suspend to RAM and resume, the volume is too loud. It fixes itself
when I press a volume button on the device, when the volume reduces to
the volume Ubuntu thinks it should have been (+/- 1 increment, because I
am pressing the volume increase/decrease button).

Driver is snd-usb-audio.

[Bug 1125314] Re: Plugin update does not actually upgrade plugins: Eclipse Scala IDE

2013-02-15 Thread Robin Green
I think this bug manifests in two forms: in the first form, shown in the
eclipse bug I just linked, installed plugins don't get installed
properly.

I've applied the workaround for that first form, and so I think I saw
the bug in its second form: upgraded plugins don't get upgraded
properly.

I believe this is the same real bug because in both cases, the installed
plugin versions don't get seen by eclipse, and in both cases, the
workaround is to correct one of its bundles.info files which lists
installed plugins.

Eclipse has had many issues related to shared Eclipse installs and
plugins and updating, and some other issues are still open, so I suspect
this is a general Eclipse issue.

Sorry, correction - that eclipse bug report describes BOTH
manifestations of this bug - upgrading AND installing.

I got confused because I'd encountered the installing manifestation
first, and found the workaround at that eclipse bug report.

[Bug 1083537] [NEW] Flash content raised above all other windows after hover

2012-11-27 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

Go to https://github.com/chris-twiner/scalesXml and hover the mouse over
the little clipboard icon to the right of the repository URL (on the
line that starts ZIP HTTP SSH...)

The icon will now stay above all other windows if you switch to another
window on that display. However, the problem somehow resolves itself
after a short while, until the clipboard icon is hovered over again.

This is 100% reproducable. I think it only started happening recently -
I've used this button before so I'm pretty sure I'd have noticed it if
it had been happening before.

[Bug 1011707] Re: Unnecessary rebuild triggered

2012-07-03 Thread Robin Green
I think the polling log for the build provides the real reason here:

Polling Log
View as plain text

This page captures the polling log that triggered this build.

Started on Jun 11, 2012 10:42:17 AM
No workspace is available, so can't check for updates.
Scheduling a new build to get a workspace.
Done. Took 10 ms
Changes found

although Changes found is incorrect - it didn't have a workspace to compare
against, so I think it couldn't determine whether changes had in fact occurred.

[Bug 1011707] [NEW] Unnecessary rebuild triggered

2012-06-11 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

Jenkins triggered a rebuild even though the repository had not changed:

Build #22 (11-Jun-2012 10:42:22)
add description
No changes.
Started by an SCM change

As you can see, Jenkins is contradicting itself. If there were no
changes, how could the build have been started by an SCM change?

I happen to know that the SCM was not changed, anyway.

[Bug 1003327] [NEW] Error when trying to open Javadoc in browser

2012-05-23 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start eclipse and create a new workspace
2. Create a new Java project.
3. Add log4j as a dependency (I used the m2e plugin to do this, and this bug
may be actually in or related to m2e, I'm not sure)
4. Create a new Java class
5. Mention org.apache.log4j.Logger in the code, and put the caret there.
6. Open the Javadoc view in Eclipse
7. Click the button in the Javadoc view that opens the Javadoc in a browser (it
uses the internal Eclipse browser by default, but other browsers don't work
either).

Results:

Oh, I forgot to mention, it may be necessary to right-click on the

[Bug 999216] [NEW] hg ignores corporate root CA installed in /usr/share/ca-certificates

2012-05-14 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

I have installed a corporate root CA using the instructions here:
http://askubuntu.com/a/94861/5729

While this has allowed wget and curl to verify the certificate of an
internal website, hg still says abort [...] certificate verify failed.
But it should not say that, because it is configured (by default) to
look at the certificates in ca-certificates.

A notable difference between this root certificate and all the others
(which are all shipped with Ubuntu), is that the others are all in text
format, whereas this new root cert is in binary format.

OK, I see that binary cert formats are officially not supported by hg.
But I installed a text version of the root CA and it still didn't work.

[Bug 914639] [NEW] Window restored on wrong display on startup

2012-01-11 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

I have two Firefox windows, each with a bunch of tabs, one on each of my
two displays. When I quit Firefox, these windows are obviously on
different displays. When I reboot and start Firefox, each of the windows
gets opened on the same display. I'd expect the windows to be restored
on the display they were originally on (if the external display is
plugged in and enabled, which it usually is).

I use KDE and Xinerama (partly because this is the only working
configuration I could find where I can use two displays and drag windows
between displays, with this particular hardware).

[Bug 881946] [NEW] 302 error not handled correctly by mvn dependency:resolve

2011-10-26 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

mvn dependency:resolve tries to download the dependencies for my
project, but it doesn't handle a HTTP 302 error code correctly, and just
saves the HTML error page as the jar file, thinking that the error page
is really the jar file.

[Bug 881377] [NEW] Panel missing after second monitor unplugged

2011-10-25 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

After I unplugged my external monitor from my laptop, kwin didn't
immediately notice and move windows over onto the laptop display. I
tried telling the NVidia settings application that I had unplugged the
monitor, and using the laptop's projector key, but neither way worked.
Then when I logged out and logged in again, things got even worse - now
no KDE panel or windows appeared after login - just the desktop.
Rebooting and logging in again produced the same result.

Jeremy:

In a terminal, type

tar cfz ~/upgrade-log.tar.gz /var/log/dist-upgrade/

Then click on Add attachment or patch below, and select the file
upgrade-log.tar.gz in your home directory.

I can attach mine if Jeremy is unable to.

[Bug 670012] [NEW] Video is always on top of other windows

2010-11-02 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

With the -vo gl driver, and any video file, playing the file in mplayer
makes the video stay above other windows, even when you switch to
another window. The window decorations don't stay above other windows
when I switch to another window, but the video itself does - regardless
of whether it's paused or not.

I am running Kubuntu inside VirtualBox, with VirtualBox Guest Additions
installed, so it's using VirtualBox's X driver and OpenGL pass through
support. However, I'm not sure this bug is VirtualBox's fault, since
glxgears doesn't exhibit this bug.

[Bug 666977] Re: Firefox plugin finder says it has installed plugin if user cancels plugin installation

2010-10-27 Thread Robin Green
OK, it's probably slightly more complicated than it needs to be to
reproduce the bug, but here goes:

I first installed the Firefox add-on FlashVideoReplacer (
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161869/ ) and restarted
Firefox to activate that add-on. (The purpose of this add-on is to
dynamically replace the Flash video player on sites like Youtube with a
native video player plugin, which for me, lets me watch Youtube videos
in a fully-functioning free software environment.)

Note: FlashVideoReplacer doesn't actually remove the flash content from
the page instantly, so Firefox still believes that a Flash plugin is
needed for that page (whether or not that is true, I don't know). If you
went to Youtube without the FlashVideoReplacer plugin installed, I don't
believe you would be asked to install *two* plugins, only a flash
plugin.

Then I went to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWTFG3J1CP8u=XIN2tPVAwa4list=FLfeature=BF
to watch a video and Firefox prompted me at the top of the window to
install plugins. I did this, and selected gnash for the flash plugin and
gecko media player for the video player plugin.

Then apt-url (or something of a similar name) was launched to install
the plugins. However, it gets launched two times - once for each plugin.
For the first plugin, I clicked Yes to confirm installation, that
installed fine and then for the second plugin, I clicked No by accident.
I then saw a dialog saying that *both* plugins had been installed
successfully.

[Bug 666977] [NEW] Firefox plugin finder says it has installed plugin if user cancels plugin installation

2010-10-26 Thread Robin Green
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I was asked whether I wanted to install two plugins (a flash plugin and
a video file playing plugin). I chose plugins for each of those tasks,
and the first one installed successfully. When it came to installing the
second one, I accidentally clicked the No button instead of the Yes
button in apt-url. However, Firefox's plugin finder still displayed the
result as installed, even though it hadn't been installed, as
Firefox's plugin finder correctly recognised when I reloaded the page
and went through the process again.
