[Bug 1959728] [NEW] trackpad doesn't work on Lenovo X1 Yoga Titanium after suspend/resume
Public bug reported: On my X1 Yoga Titanium (which has a fancy new "Sensel" trackpad with haptic response to clicks), the trackpad stops working after a suspend/resume cycle, although the red trackpoint continues to work fine for controlling the pointer. I believe this system is using S0i3 for suspend, in case that's relevant. If I boot from power off, then the trackpad works fine in both the pre- boot BIOS and in Ubuntu 22.04 (prerelease), including haptic response to clicks. After a suspend/resume cycle, the trackpad stops responding, although a lot of swiping/pressing will occasionally produce a button press event. This state persists even if I reboot out of Linux (without a power cycle) - for example the trackpad no longer works for the pre- boot BIOS configuration screen, until a full power cycle (which fixes the trackpad). Possibly relevant, the trackpad seems to be this device to the kernel: [2.016917] input: SNSL0001:00 2C2F:0006 Mouse as /devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/i2c_designware.0/i2c-1/i2c-SNSL0001:00/0018:2C2F:0006.0001/input/input6 [2.016964] input: SNSL0001:00 2C2F:0006 Touchpad as /devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/i2c_designware.0/i2c-1/i2c-SNSL0001:00/0018:2C2F:0006.0001/input/input7 [2.017027] hid-generic 0018:2C2F:0006.0001: input,hidraw0: I2C HID v1.00 Mouse [SNSL0001:00 2C2F:0006] on i2c-SNSL0001:00 and the last kernel messages before suspend are: [ 305.216189] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... [Bug 1825395] Re: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen
I've come up with a theory that I think matches what I observe. It seems that my laptop gets into the bad state if I suspend too quickly after hot unplug from thunderbolt. If I wait long enough after hot unplug that all the thunderbolt devices are fully removed, then the system remains fine. If I suspend while cleanup is still going on, then upon resume the system confuses itself trying to deal with devices that are no longer there (and that never get cleaned up). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825395 Title: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1825395/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1825395] Re: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen
I can boot either connected or not, and the first connection will usually work. I'd say my more common workflow is to boot away from my dock, use my laptop for a bit, suspend, and go to my desk and resume while docked. That usually works, but if I then undock, use my laptop for a bit, suspend, come back to my desk and resume, then I hit the PCI issue. I simulated that workflow and indeed reproduced the issue. This morning I: - shut down my laptop - booted it while undocked (and captured dmesg and lspci) - suspended and connected the thunderbolt cable - resumed by pressing the power button on the dock - thunderbolt worked - captured dmesg and lspci again - unplugged the dock and captured dmesg and lspci while undocked - supended and connected thunderbolt again - hit the issue described in this bug - captured dmesg and lspci one more time One mildly interesting thing is that while my system is in the final "broken" state, lspci prints the following to stderr: pcilib: Cannot open /sys/bus/pci/devices/:0b:00.0/config lspci: Unable to read the standard configuration space header of device :0b:00.0 I will attach the dmesg as well as lspci I captured at various steps -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825395 Title: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1825395/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1825395] [NEW] thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo X1 Yoga 2nd gen along with the Lenovo thunderbolt docking station. Initial connection to the dock works great, but after a few plug/unplug and suspend/resume cycles, the system gets in a state where a reboot is needed to make the dock work. The displayport connection still works so my external monitor gets the right display, but the thunderbolt / PCIe connection does not and so the USB and network ports in the dock aren't usable. I assume it is connected to the kernel messages like [37269.423750] thunderbolt 0-1: new device found, vendor=0x108 device=0x1630 [37269.423751] thunderbolt 0-1: Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock [37270.096713] pci :09:00.0: [8086:15d3] type 01 class 0x060400 [37270.096820] pci :09:00.0: enabling Extended Tags [37270.096975] pci :09:00.0: supports D1 D2 [37270.096976] pci :09:00.0: PME# supported from D0 D1 D2 D3hot D3cold [37270.097068] pci :09:00.0: 8.000 Gb/s available PCIe bandwidth, limited by 2.5 GT/s x4 link at :07:01.0 (capable of 31.504 Gb/s with 8 GT/s x4 link) [37270.097187] pcieport :07:01.0: ASPM: current common clock configuration is broken, reconfiguring [37270.108588] pci :0a:00.0: [8086:15d3] type 01 class 0x060400 [37270.108705] pci :0a:00.0: enabling Extended Tags [37270.108865] pci :0a:00.0: supports D1 D2 [37270.108866] pci :0a:00.0: PME# supported from D0 D1 D2 D3hot D3cold [37270.109066] pcieport :07:02.0: ASPM: current common clock configuration is broken, reconfiguring [37270.109147] pci :0b:00.0: [1b73:1100] type 00 class 0x0c0330 [37270.109221] pci :0b:00.0: reg 0x10: [mem 0xbc00-0xbc00 64bit] [37270.109258] pci :0b:00.0: reg 0x18: [mem 0xbc01-0xbc010fff 64bit] [37270.109295] pci :0b:00.0: reg 0x20: [mem 0xbc011000-0xbc011fff 64bit] [37270.109499] pci :0b:00.0: supports D1 [37270.109500] pci :0b:00.0: PME# supported from D0 D1 D3hot D3cold [37270.109686] pcieport :07:04.0: ASPM: current common clock configuration is broken, reconfiguring [37270.109724] pci :0a:00.0: devices behind bridge are unusable because [bus 0b] cannot be assigned for them [37270.109738] pci :09:00.0: devices behind bridge are unusable because [bus 0a] cannot be assigned for them [37270.109766] pci :0a:00.0: devices behind bridge are unusable because [bus 0b] cannot be assigned for them [37270.109779] pcieport :07:02.0: bridge has subordinate 0a but max busn 0b [37270.109831] pci_bus :3d: busn_res: can not insert [bus 3d-70] under [bus 07-0b] (conflicts with (null) [bus 07-0b]) [37270.109834] pcieport :07:04.0: PCI bridge to [bus 3d-70] [37270.109843] pcieport :07:04.0: bridge window [mem 0xd400-0xe9ff] [37270.109848] pcieport :07:04.0: bridge window [mem 0x9000-0xb9ff 64bit pref] [37270.109849] pcieport :07:04.0: devices behind bridge are unusable because [bus 3d-70] cannot be assigned for them ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.04 Package: linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic 5.0.0-13.14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-13.14-generic 5.0.6 Uname: Linux 5.0.0-13-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: roland 1690 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Apr 18 09:40:22 2019 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-03-29 (20 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.04 "Disco Dingo" - Alpha amd64 (20190326.2) MachineType: LENOVO 20JGS01000 ProcEnviron: TERM=screen PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.0.0-13-generic root=UUID=323a265b-35d4-4a11-82f0-e47b38cac797 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=1 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-5.0.0-13-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-5.0.0-13-generic N/A linux-firmware1.178 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 03/11/2019 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N1NET45W (1.32 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20JGS01000 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40697 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 31 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN1NET45W(1.32):bd03/11/2019:svnLENOVO:pn20JGS01000:pvrThinkPadX1Yoga2nd:rvnLENOVO:rn20JGS01000:rvrSDK0J40697WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct31:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd dmi.product.name: 20JGS01000 dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20JG_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug disco wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1727566] [NEW] extra left-behind domains break domain name rsolution
Public bug reported: This seems related to LP: #1717995 but that is marked fixed. I used my laptop at work, where I have a docking station with USB ethernet included (interface enx0050b6cf4d4a). The dhcp on the wired ethernet includes my work domain, purestorage.com. I undocked, suspended, and came home, where I have no USB ethernet (just wifi wlp4s0), and dhcp on wifi doesn't mention purestorage.com. However, I still have leftover state that stops purestorage.com names from resolving: $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com webvpn.purestorage.com: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or networks for name found $ cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver. # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers. nameserver 127.0.0.53 search lan purestorage.com dev.purestorage.com $ systemd-resolve --status Global DNS Domain: lan purestorage.com dev.purestorage.com DNSSEC NTA: 10.in-addr.arpa 16.172.in-addr.arpa 168.192.in-addr.arpa 17.172.in-addr.arpa 18.172.in-addr.arpa 19.172.in-addr.arpa 20.172.in-addr.arpa 21.172.in-addr.arpa 22.172.in-addr.arpa 23.172.in-addr.arpa 24.172.in-addr.arpa 25.172.in-addr.arpa 26.172.in-addr.arpa 27.172.in-addr.arpa 28.172.in-addr.arpa 29.172.in-addr.arpa 30.172.in-addr.arpa 31.172.in-addr.arpa corp d.f.ip6.arpa home internal intranet lan local private test Link 3 (wlp4s0) Current Scopes: DNS LLMNR/IPv4 LLMNR/IPv6 LLMNR setting: yes MulticastDNS setting: no DNSSEC setting: no DNSSEC supported: no DNS Servers: 10.1.0.1 fda0:5173:b519::1 DNS Domain: lan Link 2 (enp0s31f6) Current Scopes: none LLMNR setting: yes MulticastDNS setting: no DNSSEC setting: no DNSSEC supported: no It seems there are still issues around network interfaces being removed but leaving behind their DNS config. [Bug 1717995] Re: extra domains not removed from resolv.conf when VPN disconnects
I wonder if the issue has anything to do with the fact that the VPN creates a new network link that disappears when the VPN goes down - note that the purestorage.com domains are listed for tun0 when the VPN is up. [Bug 1717995] [NEW] extra domains not removed from resolv.conf when VPN disconnects
Public bug reported: I use a VPN (network manager "vpnc" config) to connect to my work network. The gateway is "webvpn.purestorage.com". When I connect, I get "purestorage.com" added to the "search" line in my /etc/resolv.conf (and /run/resolvconf/interface/systemd-resolved) - which makes perfect sense, the VPN passes this info to me and then I can connect to systems within the work network without having to use a FQDN. The bug (which is a regression from older versions of Ubuntu) is that when I lose my connection to the VPN (either because I disconnect explicitly, or because the network goes down or I suspend my laptop), the "purestorage.com" domain is not removed from those "search" lines. And for some reason this prevents me from resolving webvpn.purestorage.com (which prevents me from reconnecting to the VPN). In particular, if I connect and disconnect my VPN, I get: $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com webvpn.purestorage.com: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or networks for name found If I then edit /etc/resolv.conf by hand to remove all the purestorage.com entries from the search line - in other words, change $ cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver. # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers. nameserver 127.0.0.53 search home.digitalvampire.org purestorage.com dev.purestorage.com to $ cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver. # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers. nameserver 127.0.0.53 search home.digitalvampire.org and change nothing else, then: $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com webvpn.purestorage.com: 192.30.189.1 (vpn.purestorage.com) -- Information acquired via protocol DNS in 25.9ms. -- Data is authenticated: no I'm not sure if the bug is in systemd, network manager, or some other package, but I'm happy to try any debugging that is helpful to resolve this (no pun intended). The following program: #include #include #include #include template struct my_allocator: public std::allocator { typedef size_t size_type; typedef T * pointer; typedef const T * const_pointer; typedef std::false_type is_always_equal; template struct rebind { typedef my_allocator<_Tp1> other; }; pointer allocate(size_type n, const void *hint = nullptr) { return std::allocator::allocate(n, hint); } void deallocate(pointer p, size_type n) { return std::allocator::deallocate(p, n); } size_type max_size() const { return std::allocator::max_size(); } my_allocator() : std::allocator() { } ~my_allocator() { } my_allocator(const my_allocator & a) : std::allocator(a) { } template my_allocator(const my_allocator & a) : std::allocator(a) { } }; int main(int argc, char * argv[]) { std::dequea; printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size()); a.emplace_back(1); printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size()); std::deque b = std::move(a); printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size()); a = std::deque (); printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size()); return 0; } incorrectly corrupts deque state and crashes: $ g++-5 --std=c++11 a.cpp $ ./a.out empty 1 size 0 empty 0 size 1 empty 1 size -128 Segmentation fault (core dumped) This is with: $ g++-5 --version g++-5 (Ubuntu 5.2.1-18ubuntu1) 5.2.1 20150922 If at all possible it would be great to get the upstream fix into Ubuntu 15.10 before the final release. [Bug 1350479] Re: laptop display doesn't turn on if I suspend while docked, resume after undocking
Thanks. Looks like some other recent update fixed this again... I tried to reproduce and couldn't any more (and as I said, it was happening every time before). [Bug 1350479] [NEW] laptop display doesn't turn on if I suspend while docked, resume after undocking
Public bug reported: I have a lenovo T440p laptop (Intel Haswell integrated graphics + nvidia GPU, I'm not using the nvidia at all). I have a docking station with a single 2560x1440 displayport monitor attached, and I typically use my laptop in the docking station with the lid closed (so I have a single 2560x1440 display active). If I suspend while docked, undock while suspended, and then resume, the laptop screen doesn't light up. I am able to partially recover if I do the alt-f1 to switch VTs and then do a suspend/resume cycle -- in that case I can get the text console on the internal laptop screen. However, switching back to the X VT turns the screen off, and no amount of monkeying that I've tried (including fiddling with xrandr) brings X back -- I end up needing to reboot. It does work fine if I boot undocked, use X on the laptop screen for a while, then suspend and dock while suspended. If I resume when docked, switching to the displayport monitor works perfectly. Also suspend/resume while undocked works fine. The only bad case is if I suspend while docked and resume undocked. This is a regression some time in the 14.10 cycle -- ~1 month ago, I didn't have this problem, but I'm not sure which update brought the issue in. It is 100% reproducible for me and I'm happy to try whatever debugging steps are helpful. [Bug 1268669] Re: Lenovo T440p (Haswell/NVidia optimus gfx) flaky unless I blacklist nouveau
Actually I was wrong about lspci working with the upstream kernel. It looks like I got lucky once, but the next time I tried it with upstream 3.13-rc8 the system hung just like it does with the Ubuntu kernel. I tried this with the latest upstream kernel (3.13-rc8) plus the patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=91164 to Intel graphics displayport handling (needed to make my monitor connected to my docking station work). [Bug 1268669] [NEW] Lenovo T440p (Haswell/NVidia optimus gfx) flaky unless I blacklist nouveau
Public bug reported: I have a new Lenovo T440p laptop, which has a Haswell CPU and NVidia GPU in an optimus setup. In a default 14.04 install, the system is quite flaky: suspend doesn't work and doing lspci apparently corrupts memory (the system hits random weird failures and then freezes about 10 seconds after running lspci). [Bug 1130241] [NEW] maximized windows move workspaces when screen size changes
Public bug reported: I use my laptop in two setups: by itself with its 1440x900 built-in panel, and docked/closed using an external 2560x1440 monitor only. (So only one active screen in both cases) I use multiple unity workspaces, with (for example) a maximized browser window in the top right workspace and a emacs maximized in the lower left workspace. I find that if I suspend while docked and then resume after undocking (so I am switching from 2560x1440 - 1440x900 screen), everything mostly works except that my maximized windows unpredictably change workspaces; I might end up with the browser and emacs stacked on top of each other after this transition. It seems that a sensible heuristic would be that if I maximized a window in a particular workspace, then the window should stay maximized in the same workspace after a screen size transition. I'm pretty sure things have gotten worse for me since updating precise - quantal. I used to be able to build kernels with -j2, and since the update, I get thermal shutdowns sometimes even running a single-threaded (ie no -j) build. [Bug 1030156] [NEW] long-running compile leads to laptop overheat shutdown
Public bug reported: Since I've updated to Quantal, I notice that if I kick off a long- running compile on my laptop (eg building a whole kernel), then I often shutdown with messages like Jul 27 15:07:25 roland-t410s kernel: [145070.016141] CPU0: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 30) Jul 27 15:07:25 roland-t410s kernel: [145070.016142] CPU1: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 30) Jul 27 15:07:25 roland-t410s kernel: [145070.018229] CPU1: Core temperature/speed normal Jul 27 15:07:25 roland-t410s kernel: [145070.018230] CPU0: Core temperature/speed normal ... I don't remember this happening with Precise so this seems like a regression in Quantal. I does seem suspicious that the temperature returns to normal 2 milliseconds after it goes above the threshold, and then hits the critical temperature 8 seconds later. [Bug 1026964] [NEW] Lenovo T410s laptop suspends fine, won't resume any more
Public bug reported: This is a weird one, but... I have a Lenovo T410s laptop, that I've run every release from 11.04 to current 12.10 development code on. Suspend/resume has pretty much always worked, except apparently with the latest Quantal kernel there is a regression. The computer continues to suspend fine -- when I close the lid, the moon / sleep LED blinks and then turns on as usual. However, when I open the lid, which has always made the computer try to wake up, it just stays asleep -- sleep LED solid on, power button LED smoothly pulsing on and off. Even pushing the power button does not wake the system -- the only thing that makes it respond is holding the power button down long enough to force a hard power off, and then it reboots normally (but of course it's a cold boot, not a resume of my suspended state). I really don't know much about how laptop suspend/resume works -- could something have broken enabling wakeup sources? Does that make any sense? I'll try the upstream kernel package and report back too. [Bug 1016859] Re: shotwell crashes on startup
So I added the following to the insert side of that Tombstone.vala:notify_contents_altered() function: if (file_map.has_key(tombstone.get_file())) debug(already have file for %s!, tombstone.get_name()); and now in the log I see L 6394 2012-06-28 01:57:38 [DBG] Tombstone.vala:32: already have file for /home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/06/05/IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg! (where that first filename, ..._6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg, is the one it crashes removing). I think what happens is that two tombstones for the same filename get created, then both get removed, but the first removal clears the file_map entry and so the second removal hits the assertion. I don't understand the higher-level intention of this code well enough to know if the bug is in adding two entries with the same filename or in a too-strict assertion or what the right fix should be. It definitely seems like not a good situation if we still have a tombstone object without a corresponding entry in the file_map, so maybe the problem is in creating a second tombstone for the same file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016859 Title: shotwell crashes on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1016859/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, this bug still exists upstream. [Bug 1007061] [NEW] 12.04 kernel hangs during boot (loading sb_edac) on 4-socket Sandy Bridge
Public bug reported: I was lucky enough to get a 4-socket Sandy Bridge (Xeon E5-4600 series) box, but unfortunately the default install of 12.04 hangs during boot while loading the sb_edac module. This is due to a bug in drivers/edac/sb_edac.c, as of now not yet fixed in upstream. However I sent the small fix: https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/5/31/371 I would suggest pulling this fix into the Ubuntu 3.2 tree as the consequences are pretty severe: the box won't boot after install without some manual monkeying to add a blacklist of the sb_edac module to the modprobe config. [Bug 912387] Re: Intel graphics stack regression (oneiric-precise) with external displayport monitor
So xdiagnose doesn't work for me (I seem to hit bug #903484) but I added drm.debug=0xe to my kernel command line by hand, and got the following output. This is not exactly the scenario described above -- I actually booted up at home away from my dock, suspended the laptop, came to work, and resumed in the dock. I had exactly the same situation that my external monitor wouldn't light up though, and I went through my (now-standard) workaround dance of: - log into text kernel and do xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto to turn on the laptop screen - light up the DP monitor at 1024x768 - switch the DP monitor to 2560x1440 at the same time as I turn off the laptop screen and I now have my X session working at native resolution on my external monitor. ** Attachment added: drm-dmesg.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/912387/+attachment/2660166/+files/drm-dmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912387 Title: Intel graphics stack regression (oneiric-precise) with external displayport monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/912387/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 912387] [NEW] Intel graphics stack regression (oneiric-precise) with external displayport monitor
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo t410s laptop (Arrandale graphics) that I use with a docking station that is connected to an external monitor via displayport. I just updated from Oneiric to the latest Precise daily, and I've seen big regressions using this setup. I went into the display control panel and set my monitors to be non-mirrored and set my DP monitor to its native (2560x1440) resolution. Now, after a cold reboot, the login screen comes up fine (in its bad fallback resolution -- this I think is a known lightdm issue, where a laptop+external monitor ends up with lightdm using some non-native resolution). But then when I log in, X tries to change the mode of the DP monitor to the correct one, and at that point the monitor just goes black. If I do alt-f1 I can get back to a text console, but alt-f7 just goes back to the black screen. I am able to open my laptop and bring up the LVDS1 output, but I have not been able to figure out how to light up the DP output. Oneiric was able to handle this pretty well -- if I booted docked, the external monitor was used at its native resolution, and if I booted undocked the internal LVDS was used at its native resolution. And even suspend/resume and docking/undocking usually worked. I see messages like: [ 382.963872] [drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] *ERROR* failed to train DP, aborting in the kernel log, which are presumably related to the failure to light up the DP monitor. OK, going into the display settings control panel and making sure the laptop LVDS is _off_ and the DP is at native resolution worked.
