[Bug 1959728] [NEW] trackpad doesn't work on Lenovo X1 Yoga Titanium after suspend/resume

2022-02-01 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

On my X1 Yoga Titanium (which has a fancy new "Sensel" trackpad with
haptic response to clicks), the trackpad stops working after a
suspend/resume cycle, although the red trackpoint continues to work fine
for controlling the pointer. I believe this system is using S0i3 for
suspend, in case that's relevant.

If I boot from power off, then the trackpad works fine in both the pre-
boot BIOS and in Ubuntu 22.04 (prerelease), including haptic response to
clicks. After a suspend/resume cycle, the trackpad stops responding,
although a lot of swiping/pressing will occasionally produce a button
press event. This state persists even if I reboot out of Linux (without
a power cycle) - for example the trackpad no longer works for the pre-
boot BIOS configuration screen, until a full power cycle (which fixes
the trackpad).

Possibly relevant, the trackpad seems to be this device to the kernel:

[2.016917] input: SNSL0001:00 2C2F:0006 Mouse as
/devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/i2c_designware.0/i2c-1/i2c-SNSL0001:00/0018:2C2F:0006.0001/input/input6

and the last kernel messages before suspend are:

[Bug 1930433] [NEW] UEFI doesn't load fwupd on Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th

2021-06-01 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I have a 7th gen Lenovo X1 Carbon with Ubuntu up-to-date on 21.04, and
fwupdmgr shows:

$ fwupdmgr update
Devices with no available firmware updates:
 • UEFI Device Firmware
 • UEFI Device Firmware
 • UEFI Device Firmware
 • UEFI dbx
Devices with the latest available firmware version:
 • Thunderbolt host controller
Upgrade available for Embedded Controller from 0.1.15 to 0.1.16

however, if I answer yes to the update and reboot:

update to avoid damage. Continue with update? [Y|n]: y

An update requires a reboot to complete. Restart now? [y|N]: y

then the system reboots, but UEFI / grub just boots back into Ubuntu.
Even if I select the Linux firmware update manually from the UEFI boot
menu, the system just drops into a grub menu and I can only boot back
into Linux. After rebooting the EC is not updated and fwupdmgr offers
the same upgrade again.

[Bug 1825395] Re: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen

2019-05-07 Thread Roland Dreier
I've come up with a theory that I think matches what I observe. It
seems that my laptop gets into the bad state if I suspend too quickly
after hot unplug from thunderbolt. If I wait long enough after hot
unplug that all the thunderbolt devices are fully removed, then the
system remains fine. If I suspend while cleanup is still going on, then
upon resume the system confuses itself trying to deal with devices that
are no longer there (and that never get cleaned up).

No BIOS options changed. I am on X1 Yoga 2nd gen - the BIOS exposes S3
by default. X1 Yoga 3rd gen is the first Lenovo generation that
defaults to S0i3 for suspend.

[Bug 1825395] Re: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen

2019-04-23 Thread Roland Dreier
I can boot either connected or not, and the first connection will
usually work. I'd say my more common workflow is to boot away from my
dock, use my laptop for a bit, suspend, and go to my desk and resume
while docked. That usually works, but if I then undock, use my laptop
for a bit, suspend, come back to my desk and resume, then I hit the PCI
issue.

I simulated that workflow and indeed reproduced the issue. This morning I:
 - shut down my laptop
 - booted it while undocked (and captured dmesg and lspci)
 - suspended and connected the thunderbolt cable
 - resumed by pressing the power button on the dock
 - thunderbolt worked - captured dmesg and lspci again
 - unplugged the dock and captured dmesg and lspci while undocked
 - supended and connected thunderbolt again
 - hit the issue described in this bug - captured dmesg and lspci one more time

One mildly interesting thing is that while my system is in the final
"broken" state, lspci prints the following to stderr:

pcilib: Cannot open /sys/bus/pci/devices/:0b:00.0/config
lspci: Unable to read the standard configuration space header of device
:0b:00.0

I will attach the dmesg as well as lspci I captured at various steps

[Bug 1825395] Re: thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen

2019-04-22 Thread Roland Dreier
Attaching dmesg showing failed thunderbolt attachment. There is a good
hotplug starting with

[35304.659358] thunderbolt 0-1: new device found, vendor=0x108 device=0x1630
[35304.659361] thunderbolt 0-1: Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

for example, you can see that the system discovers the downstream USB
controller and USB audio device that is part of the dock:

[35305.406824] xhci_hcd :0b:00.0: xHCI Host Controller
[35305.406831] xhci_hcd :0b:00.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus

[35306.102691] usb 3-1: Product: ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock USB Audio

then there are a few suspend/resume cycles, and a second hotplug of the
thunderbolt dock:

[40222.796010] thunderbolt 0-1: Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

in this case PCI bus enumeration seems to fail:

[Bug 1825395] [NEW] thunderbolt / PCIe hotplug gets confused after a few cycles on X1 Yoga 2nd gen

2019-04-18 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo X1 Yoga 2nd gen along with the Lenovo thunderbolt
docking station. Initial connection to the dock works great, but after
a few plug/unplug and suspend/resume cycles, the system gets in a state
where a reboot is needed to make the dock work. The displayport
connection still works so my external monitor gets the right display,
but the thunderbolt / PCIe connection does not and so the USB and
network ports in the dock aren't usable. I assume it is connected to
the kernel messages like

[Bug 1727566] [NEW] extra left-behind domains break domain name rsolution

2017-10-25 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

This seems related to LP: #1717995 but that is marked fixed.

I used my laptop at work, where I have a docking station with USB
ethernet included (interface enx0050b6cf4d4a). The dhcp on the wired
ethernet includes my work domain, purestorage.com. I undocked,
suspended, and came home, where I have no USB ethernet (just wifi
wlp4s0), and dhcp on wifi doesn't mention purestorage.com. However, I
still have leftover state that stops purestorage.com names from
resolving:

$ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com
webvpn.purestorage.com: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or
networks for name found

$ cat /etc/resolv.conf

[Bug 1717995] Re: extra domains not removed from resolv.conf when VPN disconnects

2017-09-19 Thread Roland Dreier
I wonder if the issue has anything to do with the fact that the VPN
creates a new network link that disappears when the VPN goes down - note
that the purestorage.com domains are listed for tun0 when the VPN is up.
When I turn off the VPN, tun0 disappears but the purestorage.com domains
stay in the Global part of the status output:

[Bug 1717995] [NEW] extra domains not removed from resolv.conf when VPN disconnects

2017-09-18 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I use a VPN (network manager "vpnc" config) to connect to my work
network. The gateway is "webvpn.purestorage.com". When I connect, I
get "purestorage.com" added to the "search" line in my /etc/resolv.conf
(and /run/resolvconf/interface/systemd-resolved) - which makes perfect
sense, the VPN passes this info to me and then I can connect to systems
within the work network without having to use a FQDN.

The bug (which is a regression from older versions of Ubuntu) is that
when I lose my connection to the VPN (either because I disconnect
explicitly, or because the network goes down or I suspend my laptop),
the "purestorage.com" domain is not removed from those "search" lines.
And for some reason this prevents me from resolving
webvpn.purestorage.com (which prevents me from reconnecting to the VPN).

In particular, if I connect and disconnect my VPN, I get:

 $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com
webvpn.purestorage.com: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or
networks for name found

If I then edit /etc/resolv.conf by hand to remove all the
purestorage.com entries from the search line - in other words, change

 $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

nameserver 127.0.0.53
search home.digitalvampire.org purestorage.com dev.purestorage.com

to

 $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

nameserver 127.0.0.53
search home.digitalvampire.org

and change nothing else, then:

 $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com
webvpn.purestorage.com: 192.30.189.1
(vpn.purestorage.com)

-- Information acquired via protocol DNS in 25.9ms.
-- Data is authenticated: no

I'm not sure if the bug is in systemd, network manager, or some other package,
but I'm happy to try any debugging that is helpful to resolve this (no pun
intended).

[Bug 1499564] [NEW] gcc-5.2.1 miscompiles moved-from deque with private allocator

2015-09-24 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

This is upstream bug https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=67707
with a fix already in upstream gcc.

The following program:

#include
#include
#include
#include

template
struct my_allocator: public std::allocator
{
typedef size_t size_type;
typedef T * pointer;
typedef const T * const_pointer;

typedef std::false_type is_always_equal;

template
struct rebind
{
typedef my_allocator<_Tp1> other;
};

pointer allocate(size_type n, const void *hint = nullptr)
{
return std::allocator::allocate(n, hint);
}

void deallocate(pointer p, size_type n)
{
return std::allocator::deallocate(p, n);
}

size_type max_size() const
{
return std::allocator::max_size();
}

my_allocator() : std::allocator() { }
~my_allocator() { }

my_allocator(const my_allocator & a) : std::allocator(a) { }
template
my_allocator(const my_allocator & a) : std::allocator(a) { }
};

int main(int argc, char * argv[])
{
std::deque a;

printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size());
a.emplace_back(1);
printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size());
std::deque b = std::move(a);
printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size());
a = std::deque();
printf("empty %d size %zd\n", a.empty(), a.size());

return 0;
}

incorrectly corrupts deque state and crashes:

$ g++-5 --std=c++11 a.cpp
$ ./a.out
empty 1 size 0
empty 0 size 1
empty 1 size -128
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

This is with:

$ g++-5 --version
g++-5 (Ubuntu 5.2.1-18ubuntu1) 5.2.1 20150922

If at all possible it would be great to get the upstream fix into Ubuntu
15.10 before the final release. The upstream patch is very small (one
line plus test case and changelog).

[Bug 1350479] Re: laptop display doesn't turn on if I suspend while docked, resume after undocking

2014-08-12 Thread Roland Dreier
Thanks. Looks like some other recent update fixed this again... I tried
to reproduce and couldn't any more (and as I said, it was happening
every time before).

I'll go ahead and close this.

[Bug 1350479] [NEW] laptop display doesn't turn on if I suspend while docked, resume after undocking

2014-07-30 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I have a lenovo T440p laptop (Intel Haswell integrated graphics + nvidia
GPU, I'm not using the nvidia at all). I have a docking station with a
single 2560x1440 displayport monitor attached, and I typically use my
laptop in the docking station with the lid closed (so I have a single
2560x1440 display active).

If I suspend while docked, undock while suspended, and then resume, the
laptop screen doesn't light up. I am able to partially recover if I do
the alt-f1 to switch VTs and then do a suspend/resume cycle -- in that
case I can get the text console on the internal laptop screen. However,
switching back to the X VT turns the screen off, and no amount of
monkeying that I've tried (including fiddling with xrandr) brings X back
-- I end up needing to reboot.

It does work fine if I boot undocked, use X on the laptop screen for a
while, then suspend and dock while suspended. If I resume when docked,
switching to the displayport monitor works perfectly. Also
suspend/resume while undocked works fine. The only bad case is if I
suspend while docked and resume undocked.

This is a regression some time in the 14.10 cycle -- ~1 month ago, I
didn't have this problem, but I'm not sure which update brought the
issue in.

It is 100% reproducible for me and I'm happy to try whatever debugging
steps are helpful.

[Bug 1282151] [NEW] evince won't open PDF files other readers can handle

2014-02-19 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I've found that the version of evince in 14.04 has perhaps become too
strict and won't open PDF files that work in other readers. For example
with the SPC-4 SCSI spec available from http://www.t10.org/cgi-
bin/ac.pl?t=ff=spc4r36q.pdf , I get:

$ evince spc4r36q.pdf
Syntax Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Syntax Error: Couldn't read xref table
Syntax Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Syntax Error: Couldn't read xref table

and the evince window has a red bar saying PDF document is damaged

However, the built-in firefox PDF renderer works fine with that file, as
does mupdf.

[Bug 1268669] Re: Lenovo T440p (Haswell/NVidia optimus gfx) flaky unless I blacklist nouveau

2014-01-14 Thread Roland Dreier
Actually I was wrong about lspci working with the upstream kernel. It
looks like I got lucky once, but the next time I tried it with upstream
3.13-rc8 the system hung just like it does with the Ubuntu kernel.

So the upstream kernel behavior looks to be pretty much the same as the
Ubuntu kernel.

2014-01-14 Thread Roland Dreier
I tried this with the latest upstream kernel (3.13-rc8) plus the patch
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=91164 to Intel graphics
displayport handling (needed to make my monitor connected to my docking
station work). If I get rid of the blacklist nouveau with this
kernel, suspend is still broken but lspci does not crash my system.

[Bug 1268669] [NEW] Lenovo T440p (Haswell/NVidia optimus gfx) flaky unless I blacklist nouveau

2014-01-13 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I have a new Lenovo T440p laptop, which has a Haswell CPU and NVidia GPU
in an optimus setup. In a default 14.04 install, the system is quite
flaky: suspend doesn't work and doing lspci apparently corrupts memory
(the system hits random weird failures and then freezes about 10 seconds
after running lspci). If I blacklist the nouveau module then the system
seems to work fine (suspend/resume is good and lspci doesn't cause
problems).

[Bug 1130241] [NEW] maximized windows move workspaces when screen size changes

2013-02-19 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I use my laptop in two setups: by itself with its 1440x900 built-in
panel, and docked/closed using an external 2560x1440 monitor only. (So
only one active screen in both cases) I use multiple unity workspaces,
with (for example) a maximized browser window in the top right workspace
and a emacs maximized in the lower left workspace.

I find that if I suspend while docked and then resume after undocking
(so I am switching from 2560x1440 - 1440x900 screen), everything mostly
works except that my maximized windows unpredictably change workspaces;
I might end up with the browser and emacs stacked on top of each other
after this transition.

It seems that a sensible heuristic would be that if I maximized a window
in a particular workspace, then the window should stay maximized in the
same workspace after a screen size transition.

[Bug 975994] Re: [soundnua]: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in _IO_vfprintf_internal()

2013-01-15 Thread Roland Dreier
I hit this bug by connecting a USB headset and trying to select its
microphone as my sound input device in the sound settings dialog. I
tried Conor's suggestion in comment #6 and indeed that edit to the
config file fixes things for me -- I am able to select the USB headset
microphone and sound input does work through that device.

[Bug 1087374] [NEW] Sync opensm 3.3.15-2 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2012-12-06 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

Please sync opensm 3.3.15-2 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

The current version of opensm in Ubuntu is several years out of date,
and the new version is required to enable faster data rates (FDR) and
virtualization/SR-IOV support.

This exact version of packaging is built and working for precise and
quantal in my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~roland.dreier/+archive/ppa

Changelog entries since current raring version 3.2.6-20090317-2.1:

opensm (3.3.15-2) experimental; urgency=low

  * Add missing libopensm5 pre-depends on multiarch.
  * opensm-doc is architecture independent.

 -- Roland Dreier r...@debian.org  Tue, 27 Nov 2012 12:28:22 -0800

opensm (3.3.15-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Acknowledge NMU.
  * Update to debhelper 9 and minimized rule file.
  * Source is in format 3.0. (Closes: #664434)
  * Remove opensm-boot initscripts.

 -- Roland Dreier r...@debian.org  Mon, 19 Nov 2012 13:53:55 -0800

opensm (3.3.15-0.1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Acknowledge NMU.
  * New upstream release.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.4 (no changes).
  * Switch to dpkg-source 3.0 (quilt) format.
  * Don't email root from logrotate just because opensm isn't running.
  * libopensm4 - libopensm5 due to soname bump.

2012-12-06 Thread Roland Dreier
The version of libibumad in Ubuntu is extremely outdated. The new
version is needed to allow a new version of opensm (separate sync
request filed for that), which is needed to enable new hardware
features.

This exact packaging is built for precise and quantal in my ppa:

And the fix is to update to a new libmlx4 version, which is already in

[Bug 1030156] Re: long-running compile leads to laptop overheat shutdown

2012-08-03 Thread Roland Dreier
I'm pretty sure things have gotten worse for me since updating precise
- quantal. I used to be able to build kernels with -j2, and since the
update, I get thermal shutdowns sometimes even running a single-threaded
(ie no -j) build.

Maybe this is just coincidence and my fan has gotten more clogged with
dust over time or something like that, though.

[Bug 1030156] [NEW] long-running compile leads to laptop overheat shutdown

2012-07-27 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

Since I've updated to Quantal, I notice that if I kick off a long-
running compile on my laptop (eg building a whole kernel), then I often
shutdown with messages like

Jul 27 15:07:25 roland-t410s kernel: [145070.016141] CPU0: Core temperature
above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 30)

temperature reached (128 C), shutting down
Jul 27 15:07:33 roland-t410s kernel: [145077.528506] thermal_sys: Critical
temperature reached (128 C), shutting down

in my syslog. I don't remember this happening with Precise so this
seems like a regression in Quantal.

I does seem suspicious that the temperature returns to normal 2
milliseconds after it goes above the threshold, and then hits the
critical temperature 8 seconds later. Perhaps there is a bug in when we
decide to unthrottle?

[Bug 1026964] [NEW] Lenovo T410s laptop suspends fine, won't resume any more

2012-07-20 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

This is a weird one, but...

I have a Lenovo T410s laptop, that I've run every release from 11.04 to
current 12.10 development code on. Suspend/resume has pretty much
always worked, except apparently with the latest Quantal kernel there is
a regression. The computer continues to suspend fine -- when I close
the lid, the moon / sleep LED blinks and then turns on as usual.
However, when I open the lid, which has always made the computer try to
wake up, it just stays asleep -- sleep LED solid on, power button LED
smoothly pulsing on and off. Even pushing the power button does not
wake the system -- the only thing that makes it respond is holding the
power button down long enough to force a hard power off, and then it
reboots normally (but of course it's a cold boot, not a resume of my
suspended state).

I really don't know much about how laptop suspend/resume works -- could
something have broken enabling wakeup sources? Does that make any
sense?

I'll try the upstream kernel package and report back too.

[Bug 1026964] Re: Lenovo T410s laptop suspends fine, won't resume any more

2012-07-20 Thread Roland Dreier
Huh, the mere act of installing the mainline 3.5.0-rc7 kernel seems to
have stopped this from happening ... I reproduced it a few times in a
row but now it is back to working fine. I'll reopen and reinvestigate
if it happens again.

2012-07-20 Thread Roland Dreier
Happened again just now. It appears if I suspend and then resume within
30 seconds or so, I'm ok. If I suspend and leave the system for a
while, it may refuse to wake up.

I'm running the 3.5.0-030500rc7-generic mainline kernel now, will let
you know if I see this again or not.

This happened to me with mainline:

so looks like a mainline regression.

2012-07-19 Thread Roland Dreier
OK, here's the output of

sudo gdb --args /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon --log-level=debug

looks like we crash in the dns management code because priv-last_iface
is NULL. I haven't tried to understand what NM is doing here yet.

[Bug 1025498] [NEW] network-manager crashing after bringing up wifi

2012-07-16 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

On my system after updating today, I see network manager bring up my
wifi link and then immediately start reconnecting.

In my dmesg, I see many sequences of messages like

Not sure what's going on, but I do note that there is a new network-
manager version as of today.

[Bug 1023691] [NEW] [arrandale] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x01800002

2012-07-11 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

Connected my Lenovo T410s to a 1080p TV via its Displayport output,
through a DP-HDMI dongle and to the TV's HDMI input. First I got a
black screen on both the internal LCD and the TV; after a reboot both
outputs lit up, and the TV worked at 1920x1080. However it looked like
compiz/unity crashed at least once (sidebar disappeared and reappeared),
and I'm getting a stream of reports from apport one after another about
X. Not sure what data is attached to this bug, but it's probably a
pretty reproducible problem...

[Bug 1016859] Re: shotwell crashes on startup

2012-06-28 Thread Roland Dreier
FWIW, I added a debug print to Tombstone.vala right before the assertion
that fails:

bool is_removed = file_map.unset(tombstone.get_file());
if (!is_removed)
debug(is_removed == false for %s,
tombstone.get_name());
assert(is_removed);

rebuilt, and reran things.

I now see in the log:

L 5389 2012-06-28 01:37:07 [DBG] Tombstone.vala:145: Resurrecting 10849
tombstones with no backing file
L 5389 2012-06-28 01:37:08 [DBG] Tombstone.vala:39: is_removed == false for
/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/06/05/IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg

(the second line is my debug statement, and FWIW the file in question
doesn't exist -- I deleted it when short on disk space)

I'm attaching the gdb backtrace from my built-from-Ubuntu-source-but-
not-stripped version.

[Bug 1016859] Re: shotwell crashes on startup

2012-06-28 Thread Roland Dreier
So I added the following to the insert side of that
Tombstone.vala:notify_contents_altered() function:

if (file_map.has_key(tombstone.get_file()))
debug(already have file for %s!,
tombstone.get_name());

and now in the log I see

L 6394 2012-06-28 01:57:38 [DBG] Tombstone.vala:32: already have file for
/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/06/05/IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg!
L 6394 2012-06-28 01:57:38 [DBG] Tombstone.vala:32: already have file for
/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/04/19/IMG_5521_CR2_shotwell.jpg!
L 6394 2012-06-28 01:57:38 [DBG] Tombstone.vala:32: already have file for
/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/02/14/IMG_3780_CR2_shotwell.jpg!

etc... (where that first filename, ..._6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg, is the one
it crashes removing).

I think what happens is that two tombstones for the same filename get
created, then both get removed, but the first removal clears the
file_map entry and so the second removal hits the assertion.

I don't understand the higher-level intention of this code well enough
to know if the bug is in adding two entries with the same filename or in
a too-strict assertion or what the right fix should be. It definitely
seems like not a good situation if we still have a tombstone object
without a corresponding entry in the file_map, so maybe the problem is
in creating a second tombstone for the same file.

[Bug 1016859] Re: shotwell crashes on startup

2012-06-28 Thread Roland Dreier
I did

$ echo .dump | sqlite3 ~/.shotwell/data/photo.db | grep
IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg
INSERT INTO TombstoneTable
VALUES(862,'/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/06/05/IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg',4635334,NULL,1340417401,0);
INSERT INTO TombstoneTable
VALUES(3083,'/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/06/05/IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg',4635334,'1b96783ac21dbdf66181828b8b49dbcb',1340417401,0);
INSERT INTO BackingPhotoTable
VALUES(1573,'/home/roland/Pictures/CanonT1i-images/2012/06/05/IMG_6016_CR2_shotwell.jpg',1339313673,4635334,3465,5202,1,0,1339313673);

so indeed there are two rows in the TombstoneTable with the same
filename but different instance ids.

Is this a violation of the design of the database? No idea exactly how
things got into this state, except that I did delete some shotwell-
generated files to clear up disk space at some point.

[Bug 1016859] Re: shotwell crashes on startup

2012-06-27 Thread Roland Dreier
And here's the gdb backtrace. Unfortunately Ubuntu seems to strip
everything from shotwell so I'm not sure how useful this is...

[Bug 1016859] [NEW] shotwell crashes on startup

2012-06-23 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I've been using shotwell for a while on a 12.04 system, and now when I
start it up, it shows the window for a second or two and then crashes
with

This seems to be 100% reproducible -- I cannot get it to start
successfully any more.

[Bug 1007061] Re: 12.04 kernel hangs during boot (loading sb_edac) on 4-socket Sandy Bridge

2012-06-05 Thread Roland Dreier
Yes, this bug still exists upstream. You can look at the lkml.org link
I posted -- there is agreement that my patch is correct (it is identical
to the one Chen Gong sent earlier) and that the edac maintainer will
merge it, but that has not happened yet.

[Bug 1007061] [NEW] 12.04 kernel hangs during boot (loading sb_edac) on 4-socket Sandy Bridge

2012-05-31 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I was lucky enough to get a 4-socket Sandy Bridge (Xeon E5-4600 series)
box, but unfortunately the default install of 12.04 hangs during boot
while loading the sb_edac module. This is due to a bug in
drivers/edac/sb_edac.c, as of now not yet fixed in upstream. However I
sent the small fix: https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/5/31/371

I would suggest pulling this fix into the Ubuntu 3.2 tree as the
consequences are pretty severe: the box won't boot after install without
some manual monkeying to add a blacklist of the sb_edac module to the
modprobe config.

[Bug 912387]

2012-02-05 Thread Roland Dreier
Thanks Leann.  I'm running:

$ uname -a
Linux roland-t410s 3.2.0-13-generic #22+fdo44881v1 SMP Fri Feb 3 05:42:29 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and I can confirm that the problem appears to be resolved. I rebooted
with my DP monitor connected, logged in, and came up in the native
resolution perfectly. This never worked with the stock precise kernel.

BTW, was able to get to the text console, do a DISPLAY=:0 xrandr

a working X session.

[Bug 912387] Re: Intel graphics stack regression (oneiric-precise) with external displayport monitor

2012-01-06 Thread Roland Dreier
So xdiagnose doesn't work for me (I seem to hit bug #903484) but I added
drm.debug=0xe to my kernel command line by hand, and got the following
output.

This is not exactly the scenario described above -- I actually booted up at
home away from my dock, suspended the laptop, came to work, and resumed in the
dock. I had exactly the same situation that my external monitor wouldn't light
up though, and I went through my (now-standard) workaround dance of:
 - log into text kernel and do xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto to turn on the
laptop screen
 - light up the DP monitor at 1024x768
 - switch the DP monitor to 2560x1440 at the same time as I turn off the laptop
screen

and I now have my X session working at native resolution on my external
monitor.

2012-01-06 Thread Roland Dreier
Actually the code in question is

if self.__disable_pat:
cmdline_default_params['nopat'] = None
else:
del cmdline_default_params['nopat']

and presumably __disable_pat is not set and cmdline_default_params
doesn't have a 'nopat' entry, so we're trying to delete an entry that
doesn't exist?

[Bug 912387] [NEW] Intel graphics stack regression (oneiric-precise) with external displayport monitor

2012-01-05 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo t410s laptop (Arrandale graphics) that I use with a
docking station that is connected to an external monitor via
displayport. I just updated from Oneiric to the latest Precise daily,
and I've seen big regressions using this setup. I went into the display
control panel and set my monitors to be non-mirrored and set my DP
monitor to its native (2560x1440) resolution.

Now, after a cold reboot, the login screen comes up fine (in its bad
fallback resolution -- this I think is a known lightdm issue, where a
laptop+external monitor ends up with lightdm using some non-native
resolution). But then when I log in, X tries to change the mode of the
DP monitor to the correct one, and at that point the monitor just goes
black. If I do alt-f1 I can get back to a text console, but alt-f7 just
goes back to the black screen.

I am able to open my laptop and bring up the LVDS1 output, but I have
not been able to figure out how to light up the DP output.

Oneiric was able to handle this pretty well -- if I booted docked, the
external monitor was used at its native resolution, and if I booted
undocked the internal LVDS was used at its native resolution. And even
suspend/resume and docking/undocking usually worked.

I see messages like:

[  382.963872] [drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] *ERROR* failed to
train DP, aborting

in the kernel log, which are presumably related to the failure to light
up the DP monitor.

2012-01-05 Thread Roland Dreier
Actually, just went into the display control panel and I am able to get
the external monitor to light up now at 1024x768, but native 2560x1440
still fails.

Note that sometimes I am able to get the external monitor working at the
native resolution with precise -- but I don't know what the difference
between the working and non-working sessions is.

2012-01-05 Thread Roland Dreier
OK, going into the display settings control panel and making sure the
laptop LVDS is _off_ and the DP is at native resolution worked. But if
I reboot there is a good chance the DP monitor won't come up and I'll
have to go through the whole dance of going to the console, running
DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto, using the laptop screen to
run the monitor control panel, and transitioning back to using the DP
monitor.

[Bug 912405] [NEW] arrandale/5 series intel graphics on lenovo t410s requires intel_iommu=igfx_off with precise/3.2 kernel

2012-01-05 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

Using the latest default precise kernel on my Lenovo T410s laptop with
Intel integrated graphics ends up with a bunch of messages like

[ 98.467011] DRHD: handling fault status reg 2
[   98.467014] DMAR:[DMA Write] Request device [00:02.0] fault addr 40002
[ 98.467038] DMAR:[fault reason 05] PTE Write access is not set

in the kernel log, and graphics seem pretty choppy. Booting with
intel_iommu=igfx_off makes this go away.

I see that I have the calpella device that the quirk in drivers/iommu
/intel-iommu.c keys off of:

$ lspci -nn -d 8086:0044
00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Core Processor DRAM Controller
[8086:0044] (rev 02)

but in that quirk:

static void __devinit quirk_calpella_no_shadow_gtt(struct pci_dev *dev)
{
unsigned short ggc;

if (pci_read_config_word(dev, GGC, ggc))
return;

if (!(ggc  GGC_MEMORY_VT_ENABLED)) {
printk(KERN_INFO DMAR: BIOS has allocated no shadow GTT;
disabling IOMMU for graphics\n);
dmar_map_gfx = 0;
} else if (dmar_map_gfx) {
/* we have to ensure the gfx device is idle before we flush */
printk(KERN_INFO DMAR: Disabling batched IOTLB flush on
Ironlake\n);
intel_iommu_strict = 1;
   }
}

the first test apparently ends up as false, and I just see

[0.808010] DMAR: Disabling batched IOTLB flush on Ironlake

in my kernel log, which is apparently not sufficient to make things
actually work.
