Oddly enough, copying ~/huge_file to the same remote samba share _with Nautilus_ maxes out the wire too. I have experienced this bug on two Ubuntu desktop 12.04.5 x64 systems, copying to a debian 7 / samba 3.6 share. I haven't tried other OS versions though. Steps to reproduce: Open remote share so it gets gvfs-mounted under ~/.gvfs cd ~ cd .gvfs/path/to/remote/samba/share cp ~/huge_file . Shotwell 0.14.1 here. Steps to (re)produce the bug: 1) import images without copying - thumbnails and images are displayed correctly, as per the orientation tag 2) double click on a vertical (i.e. taken in portrait mode) photo 3) right click - open with external editor (gimp) 4) gimp asks if I want to rotate or not - yes, rotate 5) modify image, then save 6) shotwell starts eating 100% cpu and eventually crashes; when re-launched, the image is distorted (see screenshot) issue 6) happens about 80% of the time. While in my home dir, I typed at 19:00 (the exact time is not important). The at console appeared. I then typed myplayer song.mp3 (song.mp3 is in my home dir) Then pressed CTRL+D That's all. Did a test a few minutes ago: / usage starts to grow as soon as the scheduled action starts. It keeps growning even after the action is complete, until / is full. I checked my /etc/apt folder, and spotted this: cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/svn.list deb http://opensource.wandisco.com/ubuntu lucid svn17 I commented that line out, did an apt-get udpate, reinstalled kdesvn and had no problem at all. Awhile ago I needed a more recent subversion installation but didn't want to upgrade the whole OS just for that, so I added that particular repo. Problem is, I forgot about that. So I think you can close this bug invalid. I see this behaviour on one of our 10.04.4 x86 clients. The share is located on a windows 2000 ad controller. The bug shows itself when single-clicking on the windows share bookmark. Sometimes just waiting a few seconds and then clicking again on the bookmark makes the connection work. Other times there's no way of connecting to the share by using the bookmark. On those days the only way is using the File = Connect to server dialog box, which always works. So far this bug seems to affect only our single x86 10.04.4 client machine. I can confirm this bug on 11.10 x64. I have just burned a DVD with 613 JPGs onit. Burning options were: write directly on disk (no intermediate image), use burnproof, DVD speed 3x, leave the disk open. It completed the burning succesfully (apparently), then it started calculating the disk checksum. In the end, a message box said manually eject the disk. Below it there was another message box reporting an error: it was something like burning error, some files might be damaged. It turned out the DVD is totally unreadable. [success] recently I tried an Acer 9500 which had an express-card gbit ethernet adapter (the brand was Intellinet IIRC) Booting with Ubuntu live cd, the card would be detected and perfectly operational only if it was inserted right from the start. It would not be detected if hot-plugged after the OS had come up. After inserting the acpiphp module, though, the hot-plugging feature worked flawlessly. Seems the 3d screensaver was to blame. After configuring the system to not launch any screensaver but just put the monitor to sleep the system didn't show the problem anymore. I'll add another test I did today and in the past month: copying a file via scp from the Lenovo machine to another laptop (both connected via wifi, both runnung 10.10, both fully updated) is not possibile. The transfer seem to happen but it stops right after the whole file seems to have been transferred. It never hangs there. I have a Lenovo Ideapad (don't remember the exact model right now), that used to work fine. For some months now Facebook (which uses https) is nearly unusable. Ssh, either via console or via Nautilus connection used to work fine but now is impossible: infinite delays and frequent connection drops. Http sites, ping traffic, etc. work fine instead. I have tried both the proprietary drivers that restricted drivers function suggested, to no avail. I have installed and tried three browsers on this machine (four if I count the default firefox package): firefox 6, Opera, Chromium. They all seem to work fine at times, but the problem remains - facebook/https is barely usable. The problem showed up out of the blue while using 10.04 (it must have been an upgrade, but I didn't notice which it was when the problems started to show up). I have upgraded to 10.10, but the problems still remains. I'm thinking about trying an upgrade to 11.04, but fear a drop of perfomrance.
