[Bug 969767] [NEW] On installing 12.04 Beta 2 as a dual boot with win7 the Grub2 menu did not show up.

2012-03-30 Thread Ron B.
Public bug reported:

I had to use the nomodset kernel option to get even the live cd of 12.04 Beta2
to run (64x with nvidia gt240.)
The installation was done with an automated re-partition for dual boot with
win7.
After install on re-boot there was no grub2 menu to select desired os - the pc
just booted to win7 as previously.
I got advice on irc.freenode.net/#ubuntu+1 and used the live cd to do an
automated grub recovery selecting the automated repair. This fixed the problem
and at next boot the grub menu was available.
(This situation would probably throw a real newbie quite badly.)

To install Ubuntu 9.04 on the HP550 go to bios and disable SATA Native Mode -
do normal Jaunty install - then go back to bios
and re-enable the SATA Native Mode.

(I have no way to check this but perhaps it is worth a try/soloution for

My apologies.

[Bug 287931] [NEW] specific content in totem bbc plugin not updated

2008-10-22 Thread Ron B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libtotem-plparser-dbg

In the totem BBC Plugin a specific content item news (6) gets updated fresh
news item titles visable - but on double-clicking to see this content the same
outdated/unchanged video-clip (entrance to channel
tunnel/railway-station/helicopter) is played no matter what story one has
selected. I have, about 7 days ago sent feedback to the bbc telling them about
this - assuming it was just a server-side content- problem but nothing has
changed. So now I am thinking this is perhaps a problem with the viewer
(parsing?)
Running fully updated Ubuntu 8.1 - beta with GNOME

N.B. I am not sure if the selected package is in fact the one concerned (I am a
relative newbie and don't know how to determine this - but the system here has
basically demanded that I select one to be able to send the bug report.)
In plain terms it is a problem with totem bbc plugin.

[Bug 279050] [NEW] With Totem 2.24.1 and ibex-beta doing Extras|Install Plugin causes a freeze..

2008-10-06 Thread Ron B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

on a 64bit Intrepid-Gnome-German Language - when going to Extras|Install
Plugins that window/the application freezes and can only be forced to
close, via GUI or kill pid command.

(I notice that pre-shaded is the plugin- listing for the bbc plugin the
one that interested me- and the though has occured that perhaps this is
only authorised for use within the UK, as is a lot of broadband content
from the BBC because of no liscence fees paid by potential overseas
viewers etc?

Of course the answer would be to remove- clearly mark as disabled the
option when the ubuntu setup in another localisation or running over an
appropriate IP etc. What would not be good is to have the totem
freezing like now when opening the Plugin selection window. Perhaps this
matter is totally unrelated - but the thought crossed my mind.)

[Bug 278586] [NEW] VLC0.9.3.Grischenko cant play IPTV/T-Home

2008-10-05 Thread Ron B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

Just did fresh install of ubuntu intrepid beta, and used synaptic to get
vlc (0.9.3) - have used earlier versions with t_home_iptv.m3u playlist
to watch tv-stream on my existing t-home.de entertain account.

With this newer VLC version the video is a mess and the sound also
totally chopped up.. like some wrong codec or similar.

I have an amd x2 4200 with 2GB ram and the GF8400GS using propr. driver.
(The same hardware that it has previously worked on with hardy/earlier
VLC.) I am including the *.m3u playlist so you can see what I am
refering too. Note:- this can only be used when subscribing in Germany
to t-home entertain.

** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I don?t know of any similar system that is publically accessabe.
Of course I am willing to try and find some - but as a newbie to all
this I am not even shure quite what to look for?

While trying to reproduce this I get the following output:

And no picture. You seem to experiencing different symptoms. Are those

links to public streams with that problem?

[Bug 278586] Re: VLC0.9.3.Grischenko cant play IPTV/T-Home

2008-10-05 Thread Ron B.
It has occured to me that this problem showed up just after an automated
(for the t-home receiver at least - not for a pc+VLC of course-) System
Update a couple of days ago.

So i now think the problem is that the data included in the vlc
t_home_iptv.m3u which one can still d-load from http://www.ard-
digital.de/index.php?id=14028languageid=1 - no longer fits the
signal/system used?

I have sent them email and asked if this is the case/when a revised list
will be available.

Will report thier response here.

[Bug 270618] Re: GSPCA driver no longer works

2008-10-05 Thread Ron B.
Here with same cam and 2.6.27-4-generic largely confirm above with
remark that the built-in microphone seems to work fine - just the
cam/video is the problem.
