In maverick I have had this bug happen to me on several occasions on boot up. logging out and logging back in fixes the problem. I have noticed this only happens to me after updating but only after an update where it say ureadahead will be re-profiled at next boot up . Since noticing this every update that forces re-profiling has caused this problem but only on my pc and not my laptop.
