[Bug 390444] Re: package snort 2.7.0-22ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 6

2010-01-16 Thread Ropetin Again
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 390444

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 421033] Re: X in account tree doesn't remove account view

2009-12-07 Thread Ropetin Again
I'm suffering with this as well using Ubuntu 9.10 and package
gwibber_2.0.0~bzr476-0ubuntu3, Any time there is a X to close something
in the 'Streams' column, it doesn't work. For example, if I click on a
user name to bring up their entire timeline, or do a search for
something, clicking the X next to the stream name doesn't do anything.
In every case the X in the main toolbar works fine.

[Bug 447176] [NEW] High CPU Usage/Slow System Reponse When Stopwatch is Timing

2009-10-09 Thread Ropetin Again
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: stopwatch

When Stopwatch is timing (i.e. the clock is counting up), the CPU usage
for its process goes up drastically. at rest, on my Intel Core2 Duo
T7500 it is consistently at 0%, but when timing it jumps to anything
from 10% to 70%.

The rest of the system becomes sluggish (Firefox is slow to open, movies
stutter etc) and the Stopwatch itself is slow to respond. For example,
when trying to stop the Stopwatch from running by clicking the Stop
button, the application will take anything up to 2 seconds to recognize
the click.

[Bug 282769] Re: Autocheck spelling shows plurals as misspelled

2009-04-21 Thread Ropetin Again
The reason I used en_US.UTF-8 on the command line is because it's the
one 'locale' told me my system is using;

 rope...@laptop:~$ locale
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8

The concern with gedit is; if I just open (or write) a document in
gedit, click Tools -- Autocheck Spelling, then many many words,
including those listed above, get the red squiggly indicating they are
incorrectly spelled. If I take the extra step of selecting the
dictionary to use by Tools -- Set Language -- English (United States),
then the spelling check is performed correctly. As supporting evidence,
maybe hinting where the problem lies, from all the English dictionaries
listed in gedit, the US, UK, CA and AU ones work fine, but the ZA and
just plain English ones, fail with the above red squiggly lines.

The problem as I see it is, other portions of the system (OpenOffice,
Thunderbird, this text box in Firefox) seem to have the correct spell-
checking by default, by gedit requires me to take an unnecessary extra
step for every single text file I want to spell check.

[Bug 282769] Re: [Intrepid] Autocheck spelling shows plurals as misspelled

2009-04-20 Thread Ropetin Again
It triggers in the exact same way as previously. Open gedit, type some
text, then select Tools -- Autocheck Spelling, or Tools -- Check
Spelling (Shift +F7). As described above, many valid English words,
including most plurals and word variants are indicated as being
incorrect. By manually selecting English (US) prior to the spell check,
everything works as expected. Again referenced above, if I manually
select any of the English dictionaries available, all work as expected,
apart from the generic English and the South African English. The rest
of the system (for example the text box I'm writing this in) seems to
know to spell check in some version of English, and does not error on
plurals and other words that fail in gedit.

[Bug 282769] Re: [Intrepid] Autocheck spelling shows plurals as misspelled

2009-04-09 Thread Ropetin Again
I can confirm this issue still occurs on two units upgraded from Hardy
-- Intrepid -- Jaunty Beta. As with everyone above, manually
selecting English (United States) works fine. Interestingly, if I run
gedit from the CLI, when I change the language, I get the output;

error: duplicate REP tables used
Failure loading aff file /usr/share/myspell/dicts/en_ZA.aff

If I select any US English, UK English or AU English it is fine, but ZA
English has the same problems as the generic English. I can verify the
listed file is available, and the package 'myspell-en-za' is at the
latest version. Purging and reinstalling this package didn't help.

[Bug 352038] [NEW] Conky doesn't display correctly if it starts automatically

2009-03-30 Thread Ropetin Again
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: conky

Since upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty, if I have Conky set to start
via Startup Applications it doesn't display correctly. However, if I
kill the process and start it from the CLI, it works fine.

If I have 'Visual Effects' set to 'None' then when Gnome starts the
Conky display quickly shows then disappears. The process is still
running and I can kill it and restart it from the CLI fine.

If I have 'Visual Effects' set to 'Extra' then when Gnome starts the
Conky display has a strange shadow effect around it, and covers any
other windows I open. Again, killing and restarting from the CLI works
fine.

I don't believe upgrading to KDE 4 is a valid resolution for this issue.
Gutsy doesn't EOL till next year, and the default version of KDE that
installs with Gutsy is 3.x. I've just verified, this issue is still
happening with the latest version of KOrganizer installed with Gutsy, so

[Bug 268382] [NEW] KBlueLock Only Locks If KBlueMon Is Open And Scanning

2008-09-09 Thread Ropetin Again
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebluetooth

KBlueLock will only lock the system if KBlueMon is open, and the option
for Periodic Scan is checked. I've tried it with a Moto Q9C, KBlueLock
is able to detect the phone correctly and I can select it as expected.
If KBlueMon is open and in Periodic Scan mode, after about 30 seconds
with the phone out of range, it will lock. After about 5 seconds of the
phone being in range, it unlocks. If KBlueMon is not open and in
Periodic Scan mode, it simply will not lock when the phone is out of
range. I left it for around 2 hours, but still it did not lock.

[Bug 104787] Re: sudo will not authenticate when trying to apt-get

2007-07-13 Thread Ropetin Again
There still doesn't appear to be a pattern to this, but I can definitely
tell the difference between when it works and when it doesn't.

When sudo 'works', I put in the incorrect password (which I do a lot
because I have many different passwords), it tells me;

Sorry, try again.

When sudo doesn't 'work', I put in the password, and it doesn't give any
error or message, simply drops to the next line and asks for the
password again. It will do this twice (i.e. I type my password 3 times)
it will then give me the;

Sorry, try again.

Message.

I have Winbind installed and configured on this machine, to authenticate
on a Domain, although when this happens I'm authenticating locally.
Maybe that could be causing this issue?

[Bug 92117] Re: /fan dir empty!

2007-05-19 Thread Ropetin Again
It appears that I'm  having this same issue;

Since upgrading my Dell Inspiron 9200 to Feisty, as soon as I do
anything even remotely processor intensive (like running Konversation
and Amarok at the same time), the fan kicks on full and stays on until I
reboot. A dual boot machine, I can run the most intensive game in
Windows and the fan rarely, if ever, kicks in this high.

Per the linked bug, someone else is suffering from this issue on a 9200,
but that bug seems to be related to CPU scaling. My CPU scaling works,
when set to dynamic it yo-yos between 600 and 1800, depending what I'm
doing. I'm pretty confident CPU scaling is really working, not just
looking like it is, because the bogomips in /proc/cpuinfo changes based
on the scaling reported I've let it sit at 600 for as long as I can
stand it after the fan kicks in, but it never shuts down. The laptop
doesn't feel any hotter than normal, so I don't believe it genuinely
needs the fan to be running at this point.

The processor is a Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.80GHz, with 512MB
RAM, so isn't the latest and greatest, but isn't horrible.

[Bug 113916] Re: can't type password for sudo command in terminal

2007-05-10 Thread Ropetin Again
What actually happens when you try and type the password, do you get
errors, blank lines? I'm thinking this might be a dupe of another bug
(104787). Can you try pressing enter a couple of times after you enter
your password and see if that changes anything?

Which files did you change permission on? Which user(s) have you tried
running update-manager as? Which user/group owns /var/cache/apt, and
what permissions does it have?

[Bug 104787] Re: sudo will not authenticate when trying to apt-get

2007-04-27 Thread Ropetin Again
I'm still unable to find a pattern to when this happens, but I know
closer what the issue actually is. If I type the password and press
enter, it fails. If, however, I enter the password and press enter
twice, it accepts it. Weird.

[Bug 66473] Re: Unable to position Taskbar type Desklets (Infodomestics specifically, others fail also)

2007-04-10 Thread Ropetin Again
Out of interest, this still happening on an Edgy machine with all the
latest updates. Am I missing something here? This seems to be a show-
stopper for using gDesklets.

[Bug 104787] sudo will not authenticate when trying to apt-get

2007-04-09 Thread Ropetin Again
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sudo

Running on Edgy with all the latest updates, specifically;

Sudo version 1.6.8p12
apt 0.6.45ubuntu14.2 for linux i386 compiled on Feb 23 2007 11:09:53

When I attempt to run 'sudo apt-get update', I get asked for my
password, as it should. However, it will not accept my standard login
password. I verify that I don't have caps-lock on, although I try it
with and without caps-lock anyway, and it always fails. It uses only
lower-case letters and numerical characters. If however I do sudo
something else (usually 'sudo ls'), it will accept this password,
remember I'm authenticated, and then let me 'sudo apt-get update'
without putting in my password.

If I then let my sudo time expire (or 'sudo -k) and try 'sudo apt-get
update' again, it will accept my password fine. It seems to happen
intermittently, or potentially only after a reboot. It has, however,
happened 10+ times now, so I know it is definitely not me typing
something incorrectly.

[Bug 96148] Re: KOrganizer Doesn't Respect The Time Zone Of Imported Calendars/Events

2007-04-02 Thread Ropetin Again
No, it shows the exact time listed in the event. I.e. import an event
that is listed at 5pm Pacific time, should show as 8pm eastern time (3
hours different), but it actually shows as 5pm. It is as if the time
zone is ignored, and assumes the event is in the current time zone.

[Bug 102122] tsclient incorrectly identifies informational messages as errors on disconnect from an RDP session

2007-04-02 Thread Ropetin Again
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tsclient

I regularly use tsclient (Applications -- Internet -- Terminal Server
Client) to connect to various different Windows XP SP2 and Windows
Server 2003 (R2/SP2) servers via RDP. On exit the server seems to send
back some informational messages, which the client interprets as being
error messages, caused by a premature disconnection.

The two attached messages show the errors I get if selecting RDPv5 or
RDP as the protocol for connection.

The messages in themselves are not a show stopper. However, the fact
that it then tries to reconnect after 30 seconds is. If you let the 30
seconds expire, it will reconnect, and give you the Terminal Server
login screen again. If you click cancel on this login screen, tsclient
gets the errors again, and starts the 30 second count down to
reconnection again, causing much frustration for the user (me).

[Bug 66473] Unable to position Taskbar type Desklets (Infodomestics specifically, others fail also)

2006-10-16 Thread Ropetin Again
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdesklets-data

To reproduce;

1: Install gdesklets, gdesklets-data

2: Open Applications -- Accessories -- gDesklets

3: Display by category, select Toolbar/Misc -- Infodomestics Bar

4: The pointer turns into a hand, and the Taskbar Desklet is attached to
it

5: Move pointer to desired position on Desktop, then left click to place

6: The left click, and any subsequent clicks are interpreted as being on
the first Task in the list and will hide or show the window, or pop up
the menu.

7: The quick and dirty way to get out is to open a terminal window and
'killall python'

8: Restart the PC, reopen Applications -- Accessories -- gDesklets,
the problem reoccurs

This has been reproduced on two different machines, both with Dapper
and all the latest updates.
