[Bug 1909642] Re: flowblade can't be opened in Lubuntu 20.10

2021-01-03 Thread Rudolph
meanwhile I did that:

in regard to
https://docs.python.org/3/library/distutils.html
I typed that in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install python3-setuptools
after this installation, Flowblade starts

thank you for your help; I could not have opened it without your help

Will this bug no longer exist in Ubuntu/Lubuntu 21.04?

Does that mean that I write this in the terminal?:

[Bug 1906162] [NEW] Lubuntu 20.04 and 20.10: Libreoffice: font of some dialog-windows is too small

2020-11-29 Thread Rudolph
Public bug reported:

in LibreOffice: Tools>Options…: the font of the dialog-window is too small;
same problem:
Help>About LibreOffice: the font of the dialog-window is too small;
it's because the VLC is set to qt5+cairo (this information can be found in:
Help>About LibreOffice)

maybe this problem exists for more dialog-windows in LibreOffice;
this problem does not occur in the open/save-dialog-window (I think, it is
because the open/save-dialog-window uses the LXQt File Dialog)

now run those 2 lines on the terminal:
sudo apt install libreoffice-kf5
sudo apt remove libreoffice-qt5

now the VLC is set to gtk3 (this information can be found in: Help>About
LibreOffice)
now the font of the dialog-windows is not too small any more;
so, the problem has got something to do with the package libreoffice-qt5

[Bug 1884583] Re: vim is dependent on libcanberra0 in Ubuntu 20.04, had no such dependency in Ubuntu 18.04

Use 'neovim' instead. I too have no idea why 'vim' is needlessly linked
to pulling sound libraries. This is bizarre esp for docker containers.
Madness.

[Bug 1872107] [NEW] QEMU KVM live migration crashes when the VM is in booting state

2020-04-10 Thread Rudolph Bott
Public bug reported:

During a QEMU KVM live migration the sending process crashes if the VM
is currently in a booting state (and possibly also during a 'soft'
reboot from inside the VM). This has been fixed upstream:

https://github.com/qemu/qemu/commit/9b3a31c745b61758aaa5466a3a9fc0526d409188

There are also bug reports available for this problem:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1771032
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1772774

I stumbled over this problem while testing latest builds of Ganeti
(https://github.com/ganeti/ganeti) on Ubuntu Focal Fossa which ships qemu 4.2.
The Ganeti QA suite runs a series of tests against a cluster and issues a VM
failover (QEMU shutdown on Node A and start on Node B) directly followed by a
live migration (QEMU live migration from Node B to Node A). The sending QEMU
process dies with this error message:

qemu-system-x86_64: /build/qemu-oknQD6/qemu-4.2/accel/kvm/kvm-all.c:653:
kvm_log_clear_one_slot: Assertion `mem->dirty_bmap' failed.

If you add 'sleep 2' between the reboot and the live migration
instructions everything works fine, because the QEMU VM has left the
booting state by the time the live migration starts. From a Ganeti point
of view, this only happens when using the "sharedfile" storage backend.
When you use e.g. DRBD, the Ganeti commands take a bit longer to finish
which gives the VM enough time to boot up.

Debian Bullseye (which ships the same QEMU version as Focal) shows the
exact same behaviour.

[Bug 1815607] [NEW] lorder reports errors; for example, from mktemp

2019-02-12 Thread Mark Rudolph
Public bug reported:

If you run the lorder script from package bsdmainutils (version
11.1.2ubuntu1) on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS it reports several errors:

$ lorder a.o b.o
mktemp: too few X's in template ‘_reference_’
mktemp: too few X's in template ‘_symbol_’
a.o a.o
b.o b.o
sed: couldn't open file : No such file or directory
expr: Invalid character class name

sort: option requires an argument -- 'o'
Try 'sort --help' for more information.
sort: option requires an argument -- 'o'
Try 'sort --help' for more information.
join: missing operand after '2.1'
Try 'join --help' for more information.

It seems the new script invokes mktemp with an invalid template.

I expected the program not to generate errors; they did not occur on
Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (package version 9.0.5ubuntu1).

[Bug 1486099] Re: Crash of Xorg under intel drm

2015-09-02 Thread Trevor Rudolph
Just to add an update, I also tested the mainline 4.0.0-04-generic
kernel and experienced the crash. So the fix must have been put in
between 4.0 and 4.2

I'd like to update the issue and say that it still exists under 4.2.0 as
well. Should I be posting a new bug with logs from 4.2.0?

The issue is fixed (from a 4 hour test I presume). The tested kernel was
linux-4.2.0-994-generic. Yet this update does break the bcmwl kernel
module but that's for another bug report.

[Bug 1486099] [NEW] Crash of Xorg under intel drm

2015-08-18 Thread Trevor Rudolph
Public bug reported:

I am using an older Ubuntu mainline kernel with Vivid. The computer I am
using is a Dell XPS 9343 which is known not to do too well with linux,
like most new dell computers. However the only issue that actively
bothers me the fact that Xorg is getting crashed all the time by the
frame buffer drm in the intel driver. This can be observer in this
trace,

I can confirm that the crash occurs in different ways according to
different traces I've read but it would be impossible to compile all of
them. The crashes of the screen are not apparent to any function done on
the user end. They are random and can sometimes be very spaced out or
sometimes happen many times in a row. In order to get the screen working
without restarting lightdm, I have to switch into tty1

[Bug 879334] Re: nfsd from nfs-kernel-server very slow and system load from 25%-100% from nfsd

2013-01-25 Thread Sven Rudolph
Same here.
NFSv4 mounted home dirs (from a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS NFSv4 server) become very
slow. Eventually the client machine freezes completely - reset button.
Using Opensuse 12.2 as NFSv4 client produces no problems at all.
This is reproducable.

Same on some of our servers with NFSv4 mounted directories. All Ubuntu 12.04
LTS, NFSv4 servers and clients.

Eventually the servers which act as NFS clients freeze completely - remote
reset. (It's just a test system).
This is reproducable.
Needless to say, that this disqualifies Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as an NFS client.

A fix of this bug would be highly appreciated!

Re: [Bug 953925] Re: Google talk connection using empathy gives Authenication failed at sign on

2012-03-13 Thread rudolph-est
I've been having the same problem for a week or so.

At every startup of Empathy, I would get the authentication problem.
Sometimes it would take 2 or 3 retry attempts and the connection would
finally succeed. Other times the connection would never succeed.

As usual, it seems that the bug has disappeared now that I have reported
it! When I logged into Empathy tonight, I had no trouble logging in at
all. I assume it might be a difference between my home and work
networks. I will follow up tomorrow.

If the problem re-appears, I will update the AuthClient and MC log
files.

[Bug 581525] Re: Lucid: system becomes unstable randomly, seems related with apparmor

2010-06-01 Thread Johannes Rudolph
I'm experiencing the same. Didn't do any config changes for apparmor.

After using the computer some time, suddenly no processes can be spawned
any more, because all fail with a message similar to the one above.

Any hints how this could be debugged?

[Bug 419182] Re: KVM and audio driver in Windows 7

2009-12-14 Thread Johannes Rudolph
What I found out is: there's no x64 driver for both AC'97 and ES1370 for
Windows. 64bit Chipsets would have no AC'97, so there is only the
Realtek driver which doesn't work well. And ES1370 is a very, very old
audio chip which is probably only supported for legacy reasons but only
in the 32bit versions of Windows. In the link from comment #4, the 32bit
version of Windows was used.

See http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5332 which is essentially the same
problem for VirtualBox.

Can you confirm that Windows Update finds drivers for x32 but not for
x64 versions of Windows?

[Bug 394490] Re: xrandr: Configure crtc 0 invalid time

2009-07-12 Thread Johannes Rudolph
As mentioned in the bug report
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21987

this could well be a bug in the xrandr client tool. The xrandr client
tool always uses CurrentTime, instead of the precise timestamp as
returned from XRRGetScreenResources. What still escapes me, is why
grandr is still working although it uses CurrentTime as well.

[Bug 394490] Re: xrandr: Configure crtc 0 invalid time

2009-07-12 Thread Johannes Rudolph
Jaunty contains xrandr 1.2.99.4 (see
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/x11-xserver-utils/7.4+1).
Between 1.2.99.4 and 1.3.0 are only 4 commits. I bisected the problem
and beb228842c77fab4a446e028dd501a01f0fb3fd3
(http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xrandr/commit/?id=beb228842c77fab4a446e028dd501a01f0fb3fd3)
resolved the problem.

So the resolution is to update to xrandr 1.3.0 in sync with the xserver
changes which revealed the problem in xrandr.

[Bug 339091] Re: [i945] (Needs UXA) X freezes a few minutes after resuming

2009-05-28 Thread Johannes Rudolph
I think I've might be experiencing the same bug: soon after resume (30
seconds) the display freezes with the symptoms as described above.

Two additional observations:
1.) It is still possible to switch virtual terminals. (This is a real
difference to the other sporadic freezes I experience rarely under heavy load)
Switching to a text console and back into the X screen restores everything and
I can continue to work! Screen input definitely gets through while the screen
is frozen. The screen will freeze again some seconds later. Switching VTs helps
again. This continues several times (about 5-10 times). After that no freezes
any more.
2.) I almost never get freezes when I turn of LVDS and use an external VGA
monitor. If I'm not fast enough there will be at most one freeze, which can
resolved by switching VTs but then no freezes anymore.

If you are affected as well by these freezes, could you please test if
my observations hold with you as well and report! I guess this could
help to distinguish between different types of freezes and perhaps even
help identifying the problem.

I'm using UXA on Jaunty with a kernel from a PPA:
Linux 2.6.30-020630rc2-generic #020630rc2 SMP Wed Apr 15 13:20:18 UTC 2009

[Bug 363834] Re: NM comes up from suspend with state CONNECTED

2009-04-22 Thread Johannes Rudolph
Why do you think it does not affect synapse? Here's the bug ticket I filed at
the synapse bug tracker:

[Bug 363834] [NEW] NM comes up from suspend with state CONNECTED

2009-04-19 Thread Johannes Rudolph
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Since the change introduced for #191889, NetworkManager comes up from
suspend or hibernate with state CONNECTED. This is sent to DBus as well.
This is a problem since all the interfaces are down yet.

It makes subscribers to NetworkManager.StateChanged report spurious
errors if they expect the network to be available. This applies to IMs
like pidgin or synapse but probably to other apps as well.

wrt #191889, the question is why NM thinks interfaces are not managed,
if in fact they were managed before suspend. Shouldn't they be
remembered from before going to sleep?
