[Bug 1075081] [NEW] lib64ncurses5 cannot be installed on 12.04 64 bit
Public bug reported: I am attempting to run a command line 32-bit program on 64-bit 12.04.1 LTS ubuntu server but it keeps on complaining that the ncurses library is not installed. The ncurses package is not installed on this system Please install the ncurses package(64-bit) I have already installed libncurses5 and libncurses5-dev however that does not seem to help. I read the installing lib64ncurses5 is a possible solution which leads me to the next problem. (The program in question is proprietary so I am afraid I cannot distribute it for testing. However the main issue can be replicated. This same program works correctly on my Kubuntu 10.04 desktop) Steps to replicate: Install Ubuntu server 12.04 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt get install lib64ncurses5 Output: The following packages have unmet dependencies: lib64ncurses5:i386 : Depends : lib64tinfo5:i386 (= 5.9-4) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libc6-amd64:i386 (= 2.4) but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages I have also tried this command after installing ia32-libs with the same effect Eventually tracking through the unmet dependencies I come to the following: libc6-amd64:i386 : Depends : libc6:i386 (= 2.15-0ubuntu10.3) but it is not going to be installed however dpkg -s libc6:i386 results in: Status: install ok installed Version: 2.15-0ubuntu10.3 (as well as other information.) So it appears to be properly installed but other packages do not believe it is. ** Affects: ncurses (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075081 Title: lib64ncurses5 cannot be installed on 12.04 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ncurses/+bug/1075081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1075081] Re: lib64ncurses5 cannot be installed on 12.04 64 bit
lib64ncurses5 is really just libncurses5 Bugged, I was afraid it was going to be something like that. libncurses5:i386 was already installed when things were failing and since it is a 32 bit binary (file filename confirms ELF 32-bit LSB executable, dynamically linked and using shared links) I have no idea why it is asking for 64 bit ncurses. The binary does not officially support Ubuntu server (RedHat / Centos only) although it works on my Kubuntu 10.04 desktop installation. I am guessing something changed between ncurses 5.7 (ubuntu 10.04) and 5.9-4 (ubuntu 12.04) which breaks this particular program. Maybe it is checking for or expecting specifically old versions which 10.04 just happened to be compatible with; ah the joys and vagaries of closed- source software. Anyway, this does not appear to be an issue with ncurses or Ubuntu so I shall close this ticket and go with centos this time. ** Changed in: ncurses (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075081 Title: lib64ncurses5 cannot be installed on 12.04 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ncurses/+bug/1075081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1055288] Re: Candidate box not displayed
It appears that ibus requires gnome-icon-theme for the candidate panel to appear as well. I had found various other bugs about ibus not appearing in the bar but I did not care about that so discounted those resolutions. It appears that the fix for those bugs (installing gnome-icon-theme as mentioned above) also fixes the candidate panel problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1055288 Title: Candidate box not displayed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mozc/+bug/1055288/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1055288] [NEW] Candidate box not displayed
Public bug reported: On a fresh Kubuntu 12.04.1 installation I ran sudo apt-get install ibus-mozc After rebooting the computer Japanese input is enabled however when you type in Hiragana there is no candidate box displayed with all the possible Kanji combinations. I have also tested this using ibus-anthy and the same problem occurs. Theodoric. This is a bug-tracking system for issues in the Ubuntu Linux distribution only so you won't get much help because your problem is either in the hardware or Microsoft Windows XP, neither of which this supports. If you want more help you should find a windows forum or contact HP and Microsoft. [Bug 160726] Random switching between battery/AC mode
Public bug reported: Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Kubuntu device database submission ID: 5630a3b12ef95e9c0df7d4913ed95d0e When the laptop is running on battery power or the AC (With the battery attached) the laptop randomly switches between AC and Battery mode (i.e. screen dimming and CPU frequency reduced). There is no pattern to the changes between the two modes and it can happen several times in a few minutes. When the laptop is switching between the modes the life-timer on the battery goes totally inaccurate (For example: Reporting 0% charged but charging even though the battery is fully charged) The only way to run correctly is on AC with no battery attached. I am using the default power manager that comes with Kubuntu.
