[Bug 1939988] [NEW] GRUB2 can't boot Linux on HP Dragonfly G2

2021-08-15 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

On HP Dragonfly G2 GRUB2 can not boot Linux. This issue is not
reproducible with rEFInd or Fedora's GRUB2 (that launch vmlinuz as efi
executable) but reproducible with Ubuntu 20.04.1, 21.04 and 21.10.

After selection kernel in GRUB2 list there is just black screen, also
reading from flash stop right there (judging by led on flash drive).
Removing quiet splash, adding loglevel=10 and/or earlycon=efifb doesn't
change anything, so it's really seems like kernel can not even start
boot process.

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1939975] [NEW] GRUB2 builds from Groovy, Hirsute, Impish can not boot kernel on Yoga C630 WOS

2021-08-15 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

After upgrade working Focal aarch64 installation on Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS
(Qualcomm Snapdragon 850) I found that GRUB2 builds from Groovy, Hirsute
and Impish can not boot Linux kernel - laptop is either soft lockup
(Ctrl+Alt+Del works) or hard lockup (Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work) right
after "Loading device tree" message before messages from kernel appear
on the screen.

Attempts to boot with "nomodeset", "acpi=force", "earlycon=efifb"
options doesn't make any difference. On other hand rolling back GRUB2
packages back to 2.04-1ubuntu26 fixes the issue.

[Bug 1907647] [NEW] Linux 5.9/5.10 build config break brightness adjustment on Lenovo Miix2 8

2020-12-10 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I found that current build config for Linux 5.9 and 5.10 in mainline PPA
break brightness adjustment on Linux Miix2 8 tablet. Brightness can not
be adjusted and doesn't turn off during suspend.

Relevant build options:
CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_PLATFORM
CONFIG_INTEL_SOC_PMIC
CONFIG_GPIO_CRYSTAL_COVE
CONFIG_PWM_CRC
CONFIG_PMIC_OPREGION
CONFIG-BYTCRC_PMIC_OPREGION,

When all these build options is set to y I can no longer reproduce this issue.
I also think that enabling other related PMIC_OPREGION build options could help
other BayTrail/CherryTrail-based devices as well:

CONFIG_CHTCRC_PMIC_OPREGION=y
CONFIG_XPOWER_PMIC_OPREGION=y
CONFIG_BXT_WC_PMIC_OPREGION=y
CONFIG_CHT_WC_PMIC_OPREGION=y
CONFIG_CHT_DC_TI_PMIC_OPREGION=y

Is there chance to get same fix for arm64 server and desktop images too?
Snapdragon-based laptops with UEFI and also UEFI implementations for SBC (such
as https://github.com/pftf/RPi3/releases ) is also affected by this issue.

[Bug 1898140] [NEW] Enable building for aarch64

2020-10-01 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I briefly tested arm64 build of acpi on Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS (based on
Qualcomm Snapdragon 850, ACPI capable) and it's seems work:

~$ acpi
Battery 0: Unknown, 0%, rate information unavailable
Battery 1: Discharging, 94%, 00:48:55 remaining

(Remaining time is driver issue.)

So maybe it's makes sense to enable arm64 builds in archive?

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-09-30 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
I tested groovy-desktop-arm64.iso (pay attention: arm64) on Lenovo Yoga
C630 WOS and it does not boot.

1. When I write iso by using usb-creator-gtk then laptop firmware does
not detect flash drive as bootable device and just skip to GRUB2 from
UFS.

2, When I write iso manually, by coping content of both partitions from
iso to FAT32 partition of flash drive I getting following behavior:

Flash drive led blink
Black screen
Noting happens, it’s just sits here

It’s seems like GRUB2 from iso get started but then it freeze for some
reason.

I guess this bugreport is about first behavior rather about the second?

[Bug 1871543] Re: rtkit fails to start in focal "pthread_create failed: Resource temporarily unavailable"

2020-05-12 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
I can reliably reproduce this:
1. Inside several aarch64 systemd-machined containers (with PrivateUsers=0 in
nspawn conf) with focal and running Gnome Shell session (accessed via TigerVNC
server). Hosts in NanoPC-T4.
2. On one bare metal NanoPC-T4 host with focal, running Gnome Shell Wayland
session. No container/virtualization stuff, only bare metal.

Symptoms looks the same?

~$ sudo /usr/libexec/rtkit-daemon --stderr
rtkit-daemon[5786]: Successfully called chroot.
rtkit-daemon[5786]: Successfully dropped privileges.
rtkit-daemon[5786]: Successfully limited resources.
rtkit-daemon[5786]: pthread_create failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
rtkit-daemon[5786]: Demoting known real-time threads.
rtkit-daemon[5786]: Demoted 0 threads.

With --no-drop-privileges  it works:
~$ sudo /usr/libexec/rtkit-daemon --stderr --no-drop-privileges
rtkit-daemon[5781]: Successfully called chroot.
rtkit-daemon[5781]: Successfully limited resources.
rtkit-daemon[5781]: Running.
rtkit-daemon[5781]: Canary thread running.
rtkit-daemon[5781]: Watchdog thread running.

However, in both cases I have to use Armbian kernel.
For the record, on RPi3B running generic Ubuntu 20.04 aarch64 image (boot via
UEFI) this issue is not reproducible.

I can help with further debug here, or my issue is different and I have
to go to Armbian forum? In the former case what exactly I need to de to
help debug this?

On HP Stream 7 Tablet (1GB RAM) there was similar regression, but it
started since Linux 4.12 instead of 4.10. Last year I tried bisect and
several workarounds such as autostart cleanup, sysctl tweaks, zram, etc.
But in the end it's seems like Linux 5.5.8 solved issue, at least in
this particular use-case (device with 1GB RAM) 5.5.8 makes swapping
perform like it was with 4.11.

I tested Linux 5.4 from mainline PPA on Ubuntu 19.10.

Upon further testing I found that Linux 5.4.20 from mainline PPA does
boot on this laptop (albeit without working keyboard due to this bug)
but kernels from focal repository doesn't: Bug 1863939

As kernels from focal repository does not boot I can not use apport for
collecting information; apport error message:

> It appears you are currently running a mainline kernel. It would be
better to report this bug upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ so
that the upstream kernel developers are aware of the issue. If you'd
still like to file a bug against the Ubuntu kernel, please boot with an
official Ubuntu kernel and re-file.

But the thing is - for now only mainline kernels works on this laptop,
not Ubuntu kernels. What to do next?

On Wayland-enabled Firefox build (Ubuntu and Fedora provide such builds)
launched with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 under Gnome Shell Wayland session

[Bug 1853022] Re: shim-signed package can not be configured on Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS

2019-12-15 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Isn't these ARM laptops is only aarch64 devices that need signed shim to
boot with enabled Secure Boot? Maybe it's make sense to modify shim-
signed package to not fail if UEFI variable can not be modified and
throw warning message instead?

I propose this because AFAIK this "UEFI variable writing" issue is not
going anywhere anytime soon, and current version of the script prevent
regular distribution upgrades because shim-signed package
installation/upgrade will always fail.

2019-10-25 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
> What if you set SHIM_VERBOSE in firmware, using 'sudo mokutil --set-
verbosity true' after booting with just grub?

This command fail with "This system doesn't support Secure Boot". On a
side note I found that attempt to boot with installed shim-signed fail
with both of Secure Boot enabled and disabled.

Also I guess I need to mention that Snapdragon-based laptops currently
boot only with "efi=novamap": Bug 1814982

Does it make sense to patch mokutil.c to ignore Secure Boot state (line
2413) or it expected to fail somewhere else due to issue described in
Bug 1814982?

[Bug 1849863] [NEW] shim-signed does not boot on Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS with enabled Secure Boot

2019-10-25 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

In my attempt to workaround Bug 1839317 I tried to install shim-signed
and enable Secure Boot. Unfortunately, shim-signed binary does not boot
for some reason (screen stay black). I want to notice that if I try to
boot just with grub-efi-arm64-signed without shim binaries on esp
(partition was cleaned up, then grub reinstalled) I getting firmware
errors regarding invalid signature. So I guess when firmware validate
shim-signed signature it is valid, but then when firmware trying to
start shim-signed it get started but for some reason silently fail.

2019-10-08 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Daniel, I just found that video previous successfully generated for
video files compressed with VP9 video codec, but not for everything else
I tested so far. I guess this may suggest this issue is somehow related
to gstreamer or ffmpeg extra packages with additional (patented) codecs
such as H.264.

I added gcc-9 and ffmpeg to related packages because if search
"libgomp.so.1: cannot allocate memory in static TLS block" in Google you
will find this issue starting to appear in different program this years
(such as Anaconda installer, OpenCV, PHP ImageMagick module) so I don't
think this issue is isolated to Totem. However, Totem is only program
where I can reliable reproduce this issue right now.

I tried to rollback all related packages I could think of (totem, gcc-9,
ffmpeg) to previous releases, but for some reason this doesn't help. I
remember video thumbnail generation on aarch64 worked fine few weeks

[Bug 1846539] [NEW] [broadwell-rt286, playback] Since Linux 5.2rc2 audio playback no longer works on Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140

2019-10-03 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I noticed that since Linux 5.2rc2 audio playback no longer works on Dell
Venue 11 Pro 7140 (Intel Core M-5Y71; rt286). Turns out that happened
because SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT was enabled in kernel binary
builds since 5.2rc2: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.2-rc2/

To verify this assumption I tested two builds of Linux 5.3.1.
1. Build with enabled SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.3.1/

Currently I doesn't have access to hardware. I will try to check
/run/usb_modeswitch/current_cfg content with latest build from PPA this
Friday, or next week.

I referring to the variant with the TCL dispatcher in the first PPA. You
described this version in #4 as "dispatcher-c-rewrite.patch disabled" so
this is why I call it like this.

Shortly, 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu2~mtrudel1 version does not work with or
without /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/03f0:0857

I created /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/03f0:0857 with Configuration=3
specifically to check if 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu2~mtrudel1 can behave at
least like usb-modeswitch 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu1.

[Bug 1800794] Re: usb-modeswitch can't apply Configuration=0 to Snapdragon X12 LTE

2019-09-09 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Just in case I want to clarify that I did mistake in #19 and #22 - I
totally forgot that besides configuration file I also added couple of
lines with modem id's to /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules:

# HP lt4210
ATTR{idVendor}=="03f0", ATTR{idProduct}=="0857", RUN+="usb_modeswitch '/%k'"

Obviously, without this two lines even usb-modeswitch with disabled
dispatcher-c-rewrite.patch will not able to switch modem mode
automatically, as nothing will run usb_modeswitch against device path.

So, I wrote this message to clarify that all usb_modeswitch runs above
and below happened with modified
/lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules

2019-09-05 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
So last time (#16) usb-modeswitch service failed for me because there was no
configuration for this modem in usb-modeswitch-data - result log is in #20
It's possible to workaround this be creating configuration manually (#21) but
version without dispatcher-c-rewrite.patch is more convenient - it configured
modem even without configuration file (#19).

bConfigurationValue of HP lt4220 (Snapdragon X12 LTE) to 3. In result -

[Bug 1800794] Re: usb-modeswitch can't apply Configuration=0 to Snapdragon X12 LTE

2019-08-26 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
> Please include all the debugging information you can here

check_mbim_available function was modified like this:

check_mbim_available (void)
{
   int kver_fd = -1;
   ssize_t read_count;
   char kversion[100];
   char *cdc_mbim_module_path;
   struct stat buf;

   kver_fd = open(OSRELEASE_FILE, O_RDONLY);
   if (kver_fd > -1) {
  read_count = read(kver_fd, , 100);
  if (read_count > 0) {
 asprintf(_mbim_module_path, "%s/%s/%s",
  MODULES_PATH,
  kversion,
  CDC_MBIM_DRIVER_PATH);
+modeswitch_log("\n -> Let's check cdc_mbim_module_path : %s\n",
cdc_mbim_module_path);
 if (!stat(cdc_mbim_module_path, ))
goto success;
 if (!stat(CDC_MBIM_SYS_PATH, ))
goto success;
  }
   }

   free(cdc_mbim_module_path);
   return 0;
success:
   free(cdc_mbim_module_path);
   return 1;
}

In result log which was on expired pastebin it was visible that patch
that was printed after "Let's check cdc_mbim_module_path" message
include line break. It was right after kernel version, that filled by
#define OSRELEASE_FILE "/proc/sys/kernel/osrelease"

Example:
~$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/osrelease
4.19.0-041900-generic
~$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/osrelease | hexdump
000 2e34 3931 302e 302d 3134 3039 2d30 6567
010 656e 6972 0a63
016

Problem is that string in /proc/sys/kernel/osrelease include line break
symbol, and nothing in dispatcher-c-rewrite.patch drop this new line
symbol, so when check_mbim_available trying to check if cdc_mbim kernel
module is present, it looking for "4.19.0-041900-generic\n" (\n is not
visible but it's part of the string) instead of "4.19.0-041900-generic"
folder.

symbol from kernel version string when function in C program check
presence of cdc_mbim kernel module. It can’t find cdc_mbim kernel module
