[Bug 1950959] [NEW] Missing dependency in libqt5gstreamer-dev

2021-11-15 Thread Sandro Stiller
Public bug reported:

After installing libqt5gstreamer-dev, the following command fails:

pkg-config --exists Qt5GStreamer-1.0 || echo "Failed"
Failed

more info:
pkg-config --cflags Qt5GStreamer-1.0
Package gstreamer-1.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gstreamer-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'gstreamer-1.0', required by 'Qt5GStreamer-1.0', not found

After installing libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-dev (also brings the
missing libgstreamer1.0-dev), it works.

* Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
* libqt5gstreamer-dev (1.2.0-5)
* amd64

[Bug 1901609] Re: signond causes qprocess crash

2020-12-04 Thread Sandro
Sorry read the message only partially on my phone at the time. Here is
the requisite info:

Tested on Ubuntu 20.04 (KDE Neon, the only way this bug manifests
currently, as it only affects systems running Qt >= 5.19.0)

Updated the package and it successfully fixes the bug, using package in
proposed channel: 8.59+17.10.20170606-0ubuntu2.20.04.1

Opening SystemSettings/Online Accounts and adding a new Google account
now works: A window appears with a web view asking user to submit
authentication credentials. I added two accounts, and all worked fine.
Removing and re-adding an account also worked. Closing the window
without completing workflow and trying again also works. I couldn't
think of any other reasonable scenario.

[Bug 1901609] Re: signond causes qprocess crash

2020-12-04 Thread Sandro
I can confirm that the updated packages work for me. After adding them
to my system using -proposed as suggested, I am now able to get the
window to open asking for my google credentials when selecting to add a
new Google account.

As far as I'm concerned this fixes it for me. Thanks to all for taking
the time to fix this :)

Please note, in case people come back here and start conflating issues
again - the scope of this fix is *only* to get the web view window where
you can enter your Google credentials. It is well known that there were
other issues that may come along *after* that, but they are not related
to this bug at all. As long as you get the window where you can enter
your email address, this bug is fixed.

[Bug 1901609] [NEW] signond causes qprocess crash

2020-10-26 Thread Sandro
Public bug reported:

I'm reporting this bug upstream from where I found it, since I've
learned that the signond package in KDE Neon is sourced from Ubuntu
focal.

This was found in signon (signond_8.59+17.10.20170606-0ubuntu2_amd64)
from Focal Fossa

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install KDE Plasma and qt 5.15.0 on Ubuntu focal base (IE: KDE Neon)
2. Install the kaccounts integration and kio-gdrive packages.
3. Open System settings and navigate to "Online Accounts"
4. Press "+ Add New Account"
5. Select "Google"

Observed behaviour:

- Window that would ask for authentication fails to load, and Online Accounts
goes back to overview
- system logs show a segfault in libqt5core.so which can be traced to a failure
in qporcess, casued by signond (see links for further details)

Expected behaviour:
- New window opens with a webview where Google authentication credentials can
be posted.
- When qprocess runs it does not crash.

[Bug 1888317] [NEW] on screen keyboad pops up nor requested

2020-07-20 Thread sandro dentella
Public bug reported:

Every now and then the on-screen keyboard pops up not intentionally
required and no evident way to clear it is available.

The only way I can clear it is via "universal access" adding (it is
normally not set) and then disabling it.

I noticed an issue that was closed and invited those who experiment this
problem to re-open an issue... here I am.

It only happens when working on my touch notepad (laptop keyboard).
Never happens if I use external keyboard.

fixes my issue!
This is enough for me if you like to close this ticket :)

[Bug 1735991] Re: QL-570 printer : the led flashes red and nothing happens

2018-08-10 Thread Sandro
I resolved the issue by setting proper Page Size (62 x 38 mm) in CUPS
and glabels. My QL-570 is now working with the latest driver version
1.4.2-3+b1 from Ubuntu. I attached the glabels template for reference.
It is also possible to print smaller labels (same width, different
height) without adjusting the printer settings. Perfect!

[Bug 1735991] Re: QL-570 printer : the led flashes red and nothing happens

2018-02-06 Thread Sandro
I have the exact same problem with my Brother QL-570 label printer.

I am running Raspbian Jessie and manually installed the binary driver
package from the Stretch (v1.4.2-2) repository. This was an attempt to
fix a problem with the cutter that was introduced after upgrading from
Wheezy (v1.3-4) to Jessie (v1.3-8). However with version 1.4.2-2 my
printer stopped working altogether and the red light comes up when
attempting to print labels, in my case 62 mm wide continuous roll tape.

I have set up Custom Media Size as 59 x 32 mm (yielding 62 x 38 mm paper
size effectively) in CUPS to account for the hardware margins (1.5 x 3
mm). This was working fine in Wheezy when printing custom labels
generated with glabels having the same dimensions as the printer media
size (59 x 32 mm). I have seen that provided label templates follow the
same approach (at least in earlier versions of glabels).

As already pointed out in the discussion the reported problem is
potentially related to the media size. I have noticed the latest PPD has
updated the HWMargins option which may conflict with the Custom Media
Size I am using.

Can you tell me what setting to use for Custom Media Size in CUPS and
the correct dimensions for labels created with glabels. I am aiming at
62 x 38 mm. I can report back if this fixes the problem with the
blinking red light. Meanwhile I downgraded to v1.3-4, but I want to see
the problem resolved properly. I also managed to compile the drivers
from source, so I can try out driver patches if necessary.

[Bug 1397250] Re: SIGPIPE not caught in do_atfork_child()

Please push upstream the new 266 version from the author's git

The 266 version is about 6 years old and contains a lot of bug fixes, I
think it would be worth to use it.

[Bug 1513251] [NEW] Sync preferences not visible in device properties window

2015-11-04 Thread Sandro
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to wily the Sync Preferences list tree box appears
empty. Resizing the window does not help. The same problem occurs when
booting Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 from a live CD. The device I want to sync
music to is an Ipod shuffle model xC323. I also tried resetting it to
factory to no avail.

I was expecting to see a list tree with my Music library on top and all
my playlists as child nodes.

The problem could in fact be a GTK problem, but I've only seen it in
Rhythmbox so far.

[Bug 1425961] Re: kscreen no longer detecting disconnection of primary external monitor

2015-08-07 Thread Sandro
Chiming in to say that this affects me too.

Further detail I can add:

* This affects three systems I have installed it on, two laptops, and a
desktop. All use intel graphics.
* In all cases, disconnecting a monitor crashes the session (but not all of
X11, I can still see mouse)
* In all cases, using another DM I cannot recreate the failure.

It also is still happening on Kubuntu CI branch, so it hasn't (yet
anyway) been fixed upstream

[Bug 1457467] [NEW] libsigx-2.0-dev wrong location of sigxconfig.h

2015-05-21 Thread Sandro Stiller
Public bug reported:

The libsigx library requires the file sigxconfig.h in the include path
(sigx.h:23).

On my x86_64 system (Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS) the file is installed to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sigx-2.0/, but the include paths in sigx-2.0.pc are
* /usr/lib/sigx-2.0 and
* /usr/include/sigx-2.0

This bug makes the library unusable for developers.

Copying / linking the file sigxconfig.h to /usr/include/sigx-2.0/ solves
the problem for me.

I had the same problem and following #16 from Valentin I solved it.
Thanks.

In my case I did have gawk but the preferences where set on
'sourrounding51' rather than 'pulse'.

[Bug 1283058] Re: Kobo Glo ereader not detected in Ubuntu GNOME 14.04

2014-12-06 Thread Sandro
Hi,
I don't understand anything, but I too have the same problem. Ubuntu 14.04
doesn't see my Kobo Glo, while Ubuntu 13.04 recognized it perfectly. Any
(easier to understand) suggestion?
Thanks a lot!

[Bug 953342] Re: Add support for Qt Designer UI files

2014-12-04 Thread Sandro Mani
Shouldn't the result of getXMLstring be passed to entity_decode first?
Something along the attached patch. Perhaps I'm not doing this as was
planned (basically I'm running a regex-replace on the generate ui_XXX.h
files to replace QApplication::translate calls with gettext ones, see
[1]), but without entity_decode, the msgids of strings containing html
markup does not match what is actually in the ui_XXX.h files, plus
having all html-escaped characters in the po files is somewhat unplesant
for translators.

[Bug 1362026] [NEW] toggle-shaded not working as it should

2014-08-27 Thread sandro
Public bug reported:

Dear admins, please feel free to move this report to the appropriate
place in case. I was waiting for someone who knows how to file a bug
report to do it, but after half a year I give up waiting.

Problem is that when you toggle-shaded, defaulting to 'Ctrl-Alt-s' in
dconf (org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings) or to double-click top-bar on a
window the window just disappears instead of showing you only the top
bar. Additionally it is impossible for me to get the disappeared window
back, for example via alt-tab.

Remark: toggle-shaded behaves like this only since I upgraded to trusty
(14.04).

[Bug 1356256] [NEW] virtualbox-dkms 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.6: virtualbox kernel module failed to build

2014-08-13 Thread Sandro Fernandes
Public bug reported:

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a
permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by
executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the
DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and
recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

the script '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' doesn't exist.

[Bug 1171342] Re: mouse scroll wheel not working in gedit System Monitor

2014-03-21 Thread Sandro Rettinger
I see the same issue after upgrading (yes, just recently, I'm a slacker)
to 13.10 from 13.04, on evince and nautilus. I too am running XFCE.
(Specifically 4.10)

Hovering over those applications and using the scroll wheel still raises
them, just as if I'd clicked on them, but does not scroll them.

click scrolling (as described above by Willy) does cause the
applications in question to scroll. The click functionality of my
scrollwheel is normal unix middle button behaviour.

I will try the PPA listed above and report back.

Re: [Bug 1157649] Re: GPU hang

2013-03-22 Thread Sandro
I'm not an expert, I only like Ubuntu Philosofy, but is really hard
for me to manage the problem that Bruno Girin explains (better then
me). Everithing started after the update of 20th March.

2013/3/22, Bruno Girin brunogi...@gmail.com:
Chris, is there a possibility to backport the fix to Quantal? It really
makes the computer difficult to use as it hangs every few minutes, in
particular when scrolling. This has been happening to me since the
kernel update on Wednesday 20th March (when this bug was first
 reported).

What info is required to diagnose the problem? I'm happy to do as much
investigation and digging as necessary to find the root cause.

[Bug 926917] Re: Mouse wheel tilt not works

2012-10-29 Thread Sandro
Finally had time to throw at this. Worked fine on Kubuntu 12.10 except
for the pkg-config package which was required for ./configure to
complete. MInor issue, was very obvious to discern, fix and move on.

Scott - this essentially works fine on 12.10 but rather than use
xserver-xorg-input-evdev 2.7.0, which is likely valid for 12.04, I
searched for the latest in quantal and found it to be 2.7.3. So just
replace the 2.7.0 with 2.7.3 and you'll be fine.

[Bug 1037192] Re: NFS shares are mounted with wrong clientaddr or not at all

2012-10-29 Thread sandro dentella
I have a related problem in the sense that an LTSP fat client can't nfs
mount /home. Mounting by hand succedes w/o any problem and also running
'mountall' from command line, but when boot finises /home is not
mounted. I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and mountall 2.36.

I added same debug info as suggested in mountall.conf logging to
/dev/mountall.log and I see that the last part states:

montaggio di /home
local 3/3 remote 0/0 virtual 11/11 swap 0/0
local 3/3 remote 0/0 virtual 11/11 swap 0/0
mount /home [639] uscito normalmente
local 3/3 remote 0/0 virtual 11/11 swap 0/0

uscito normalmente means normal exit. I wanted to check if at that
point /home is mounted but I couldn't manage to log the output of df:

df -h /dev/df.log 21does not log anything nor creates an empty
file. Any suggestion on the origin of the problem or on further test to
do?

[Bug 926917] Re: Mouse wheel tilt not works

2012-10-04 Thread Sandro
Phil,

Did you simply patch source / compile / drop in? Haven't (bothered to)
compile any source since moving to Ubuntu dapper. Not sure if there's a
ton of other dependencies that need a recompile in order for this to
work.

Thanks for any input on this!

[Bug 750437] Re: fglrx hard lockup on shutdown

2011-12-27 Thread Sandro
Took me awhile to get around to upgrading to Oneiric. Ran into a few
issues during the upgrade too. Now that it's all sorted out, it seems to
work ok now using the standard oneiric kernel + Catalyst 11.10.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. Please retry test
your systems memory - this can be done with an Ubuntu bootable CD by
choosing 'Test memory' in the boot menu. In the event that is not in
fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
 New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 767192] Re: Wireless flaky on Acer Aspire 5100 after installing Natty

2011-05-19 Thread Sandro Benetollo
Hi Seth, thanks for your .deb! I installed and booted them. The first time the
boot blocked in the black screen after grub and before the ubuntu logo with the
five dots. The second and third time the boot was successful but it took almost
three minutes to complete! Most of time was spent in the screen with ubuntu
logo and five dots.
I couldn't test the wireless because at this moment I'm not at home: I only see
the problem when I'm at home and try to connect from a room different from the
one the router is in (--it only connects if I'm VERY close to the router ).
I'll try in the evening.

Booted 3 times at home: first time booted quickly, second time hang with black
screen, third time booted quickly. Wireless was always OK! So the patch
works!!!
If someone will try to reintroduce and patch the changes that caused the
problem I can help in testing those patches.

panics on shutdown (looks like some paging error). Let me know how I can
provide the trace for this bug, ie. whether it's logged somewhere that I

[Bug 750437] [NEW] fglrx hard lockup on shutdown

2011-04-04 Thread Sandro
Public bug reported:

First reported here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1720894

fglrx is preventing clean shut downs. Hardware is an ASUS E-35M1-I
Deluxe, ie. the Fusion APU, and I'm running Ubuntu Natty AMD64, linux-
generic 2.6.38.7.21, fglrx 2:8.840-0ubuntu1, xserver-xorg
1:7.6+4ubuntu1. Everything else in the driver is working perfectly, ie.
hardware accelerated video and 3D, etc.

Executing service slim stop or service gdm stop while running fglrx,
the whole system would sometimes hang, needing a hard reset. More often
I'll just get slim is not responding to TERM signals. slim.log shows
unexpected signal 15, but slim and X are still running. No errors in
the Xorg.0.log file. Slim no longer responds to input when switching to
view the login screen, perhaps because it's trying to shut down.

Trying to kill slim manually has no effect, probably because it's
already trying to shut down, but fglrx and/or X won't let it. This is
probably what's preventing a clean shut down.

kill -9 on slim and X do kill them, but certain kernel resources are
clearly not reclaimed because switching to the X console, ie. alt-F7,
produce a black screen and I can't get back to a regular tty console.
System still responds to ctl-alt-delete reboot though (sometimes).

Shutdown times out and the disks are forcibly unmounted, forcing a disk
check on the next boot. No adverse messages in the logs that I can see
(Xorg.0.log, slim.log, syslog, kern.log, etc.). The open source radeon
driver does not have these issues.

[Bug 745704] [NEW] gnome-do jira plugin does not maintain configuration

2011-03-30 Thread Sandro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do-plugins

Hi,

Known bug in Jira for almost two years, but the existing bug under the
gnome-do project is just sitting there. However, within that bug entry
there's a patch to fix it, except it needs to be applied to source, and
I don't have the inclination to create my own PPA or install build-
essential stuff on my work PC to resolve this. Here is the link to it
below. Can we have this added to the official ubuntu package?

In addition, the log also revealed a slight logical error on the part of

There are a few other build errors, but I believe they were fixed in

why do you believe that? did you report them upstream? did you check

[Bug 696294] [NEW] [PATCH; python-imaging-sane] Py_*_ALLOW_THREADS for sane_get_devices and sane_open calls

2011-01-01 Thread Sandro Mani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-imaging

Especially when detecting/accessing scanners over the network, the
sane.get_devices() and sane.open() calls can block the python
interpreter for a fair number of seconds.

Threads should be allowed to be able to detect devices in background
without i.e. blocking a GUI application.

[Bug 686592] [NEW] Tooltips/menus often not visibile until mouse moved over where they should appear

2010-12-07 Thread Sandro Mani
Public bug reported:

It happens quite often that tooltips / menus are not displayed until the cursor
is moved over the area where they should appear.
Following observations:
- This does not appear to be a bug in a specific driver, can reproduce it with
xorg-intel, xorg-ati and fglrx
- This does not appear to be a bug in either compiz, nor mesa: under gnome, it
is most easily reproducable with compiz enabled, but for instance on KDE the
problem is easier to reproduce without any compositing manager running at all.
- This is a regression compared to xorg-1.8 (or generally ubuntu 10.04).

A typical example video is attaced.

[Bug 236046] Re: checkgmail tray background colour cannot be changed

2010-11-16 Thread Sandro Tosi
I sent the patch to morph(at)debian(dot)org as Edward asked. Haven't
heard back yet though.

I don't see a confirmation if this effects Debian in teh first place, if
you can get that check done, I can see to include it in the Debian
package. Also, the correct way to contact the maintainer of a Debian pkg
is to try to replicate the problem on a Debian system and them open a
bug on the Debian BTS (I'm sure there's someone in ubuntu that will be
able to explain to you how to do that) - sending email directly to the
maint is not the correct way, no matter what others say.

Sorry, I have no experience whatsoever with sending patches upstream, I was
just following directions. I don't want to pester anyone, and I don't have
time to replicate this bug on various distros.
Looking at the code I'm quite sure that setting a custom bg color will be
disabled on any system running Gnome, which is especially annoying if you use
a custom background color for your panel.

As I mentioned above I notified the developer of checkgmail, he is aware
of the issue but he won't change the current behaviour because that
would break transparency with the default Ubuntu settings (Ambiance
theme without a custom background or transparency for the panel). He
told me that he might include the fix as a commandline option.

That said, I hope you'll understand I'm not going to apply it in Debian.

Sure update the package is quite easy, make it right it's another story.

The main blocker for the upload into Debian (and hence the sync with
ubuntu) is due to the get_sample_date() calls inside the examples in
doc generation. It's forbidden (at least in Debian, I don't know in
ubuntu) to acess (and download) anything at build time.

Follow up [1] and propose a patch: that would help us both Debian and
ubuntu (oh, and upstream too).
