[Bug 1892281] [NEW] package libstdc++5 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite shared '/usr/share/doc/libstdc++5/changelog.Debian.gz', which is different from other instances of

2020-08-19 Thread Saravanan
Public bug reported:

This crash happened when I tried to install lib32 libraries which are not
compatible to the current architecture. I force changed the architecture and
downloaded the package for i386 architecture and force installed it. I started
getting errors so I had to remove the install and revert back. Faced some
issues and finally able to get system back to normal. But keep getting this
error.
These are done to install oracle DB in ubuntu and since oracle install needs
these lib and build packages that support 32 bit lib I had to tweak and crash
the system.

Need to understand how better to setup Ubuntu for Oracle DB
installation. especially the new versions don't support Ubuntu kernal
os.

Nice one.

Ubuntu 16.04 not having gnome-schedule is highly inconvenient

2015-01-02 Thread Saravanan S PAJANCOA
Solution checked in Ubuntu 14.04.1

Use vm.swappiness & vm.vfs_cache_pressure to the minimum possible
Run the below command in Terminal
sudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf

Add the below line at the end of the file. Select File > Save. Select File >
Quit. Restart computer
vm.swappiness=1
vm.vfs_cache_pressure=1

Note:
This can be a workaround, if top command shows kswapd0 taking 99% or 100% cpu,
while heavy memory activity
Heavy memory activity may be playing Dota2, copying large files, browsing
faulty websites, etc...
Suggested swap partition size in Ubuntu 14.04 64bit with heavy memory activity
Atleast double the size of RAM or 20GB whichever is bigger
Use bigger swap partition than the current, if the above issue still persists
Example swap entry in /etc/fstab to enable swap manually in /dev/sda7
/dev/sda7 none swap sw 0 0

exact one specified in this ticket. I pulled the latest code using bzr

[Bug 638217] Re: Zeitgeist doesn't restart after upgrade (Unknown method name: GetHistogramData)

2010-09-17 Thread Saravanan Thirumuruganathan
Hi,

zeitgeist-daemon --replace did not solve the problem for me.

I pulled the latest code for both gaj and zeitgeist and tested it.
GetHistogramData seems to have been defined in gnome-activity-
journal/extension/gnome_activity_journal.py . If I move this file to
zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/extensions then I no longer get the
"TypeError: Unknown method name: GetHistogramData". Now I get an error

[Bug 590998] Re: update-apt-xapian-index crashed with DatabaseLockError in __init__()

2010-09-16 Thread Saravanan Thirumuruganathan
I can confirm that I observed a similar behavior like Lorenz. In
addition in both the times when this error occurred , samba and winbind
were the packages where update manager seems to be stuck. There were
also a message that /var/cache/debconf/config.dat was locked. I have to
finally kill the process but I am now stuck with some broken packages.

[Bug 294441] Re: gnome-sound-recorder crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2010-09-15 Thread Saravanan Thirumuruganathan
Hi,

I had this issue today. I am using maverick beta. Since the bug was
already existing, I think my apport did not attach the coredump (around
100MB) as the bug is already existing. What I did is this : I recorded
a small audio - around 2 minutes but most of the time there was no
sound. I tried to play the recording - it was okay. So I created a new
window using ctrl+n and closed the old recorder window. It asked if I
want to save the file for which I answer no. then the whole recorder
window (both of them) crashed.

I tried the same steps again couple of times and the issue recurred
once.

[Bug 625757] Re: dconf-service crashed with signal 5 in g_closure_invoke()

2010-09-09 Thread Saravanan Thirumuruganathan
This might not be the exact root cause but this is what happened to me :
I am in Maverick Beta on amd64.

I added a new language (Tamil - India) to my list of languages. I
already have English(USA) and Hindi bolnagri for a long time. I clicked
on the keyboard preferences applet and clicked on "Show current layout".
Suddenly the gnome screen began to represent the gnome screen from early
2000s with flat backgrounds and got a notification of this error. I had
to restart the X to fix the issue. Hope this helps !

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid also still have this problem
Chipset in the computer is

Hanging frequency is low now, but getting good screen resolution atleast.

Workaround done is given below
Replaced boot parameters quiet splash with i915.modeset=1

Then given the below command

In the file that opens copied the below content.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "intel"
Option "DRI" "off"
EndSection

2010-04-03 Thread Saravanan Thirumuruganathan
Hello,

I can try providing any needed info as I am facing the same problem. I
tried with the development version of empathy. I am still not able to
connect when in wireless network. I checked that the avahi daemon is
running and the relevant ports for Bonjour ( tcp 5298 , udp 5353) are
not blocked in my firewall. Is there any specific information you need ?

[Bug 308928] Re: NetworkManager crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_newv()

2010-03-31 Thread Saravanan Thirumuruganathan
Probably my logs might have been different from Michael's - but since I
said the problem is similar it did not upload my log files. Is there any
way for me to collect it and upload it here ?

Also I am changing the status from Incomplete -> New .

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu)

Dear James Cobban, the information u have given here helps me to
understand thinks better. Thanks.

U r correct. The suggestion in Comment #9 is applicable only if grub2 is used.
If grub is used the below command can be used

to edit and replace kernel parameters
quiet splash
with
nomodeset

After replacing kernel parameters as explained in comment #4 on 18Nov2009 2pm

quiet splash

acpi=off

no hang. But now (20 Nov2009 2pm IST) when I am working in Firefox and
use the side scroll bar to scroll down fastly GUI logs out. But it is
not hang as before and able to log in back and work without restart.
Luckily due to firefox restore I got all my browsing webpages back. Hope
