downgraded to maveric's default kernel 2.6.25-22.35 - hope this helps.
Also I've attached my screenshot as well (maybe it'll be useful for

[Bug 513300] [NEW] play/pause hotkey issue on dell inspiron 1525 in Karmic

2010-01-27 Thread Sergiy Zuban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Play/pause hotkey works incorrectly in Karmic. Once key is touched
Rhythmbox produce a sound for very short period of time (0.1sec) and
that makes me thing key is actually working, but probably it sends 2
touch events, so Rhythmbox treat this as Play and further Pause. If I
put my finger on the key for ~1sec it produces more then 10 events!

I'm very upset that Ubuntu/Debian teams doesn't have enough man power to keep

[Bug 123064] Re: Upgrade to Eclipse 3.4.2

2009-04-17 Thread Sergiy Zuban
are there some technical issues that doesn't allow to install core of
eclipse via apt (and keep it updated when new releases of eclipse
occurs) and let the end user to install plugins via eclipse's build-in
mechanisms? I don't understand why you are packaging let's say perl +
tons of modules (the same I can say regarding php/python/ruby, etc) when
it has own module manager called cpan. If someone need to update
module (installed via apt) or install new module (not packages as .deb)
he is able to do that via cpan and everything works fine, because such
modules installs to /usr/local/lib and they have higher priority. Why
you can't do the same with eclipse?

[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

2009-01-29 Thread Sergiy Zuban
About 2 months ago I was able to get the same performance as it was in
Hardy by the following steps:

 1. install a 2.6.28 kernel (I got the current one from jaunty).
 2. from the xorg-edgers ppa, install the mesa an required packages, and
 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.4.97.0+git20081129

Today I've decided (I blame myself for that) to upgrade from xorg-edgers
ppa and hope to get more stable driver and some rendering issues fixed,
but unexpectedly got 45% regression:

glxgears: 1100fps - 600fps
Planet Penguin Racer (ppracer): 40fps - 22fps on 1440x900x32

So since I'm running on GEM-enabled kernel/driver/xserver why we again get
huge regression after several months of work?
What exactly doesn't allow to keep performance at least on
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.4.97.0+git20081129 level?

Alter attempt to upgrade video-related packages to Jaunty versions things
become more horrible:
glxgears: 600fps - 50fps

I even didn't try to run ppracer, since regression in compiz performance
was eye-sensible (I had to wait 5-7 sec to switch between windows via
Ring/Shift Switcher plugins). Maybe it's due to turned on/off
vblank_mode, but I don't know how to change it globally for all
programs, including compiz.

PS.
I can't downgrade to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.4.97.0+git20081129.
Log of upgraded packages (with versions) attached.

[Bug 252094] Re: Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10

2008-12-08 Thread Sergiy Zuban
Effenberg, please re-read last several comments - it's possible to get ~
the same performance as it was in Hardy by upgrading kernel to 2.6.28-2
version from jaunty repository, MESA related packages and xserver-xorg-
video-intel 2.4.97 version (it's important) from xorg-edgers.

In my case it help me to increase FPS from 550 to 1100 + google earth
works much better (even comparing with Hardy), but some rendering
glitches still remain.

[Bug 295040] Re: multiple download works strangely

2008-12-06 Thread Sergiy Zuban
In my case 80-90% downloaded data was lost. For those who have bandwidth
less then 1Mbit/s difference is very noticeable - download a movie for
just several hours or several days. For me it's the same as unusable.

As temporary solution I've installed 1.40 from unofficial repo

[Bug 304699] [NEW] Transmission - urgent update required due to bug (Transmission losing data)

2008-12-03 Thread Sergiy Zuban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Transmission in Ubuntu 8.10 useless due to bug described here
http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1305
http://forum.transmissionbt.com/viewtopic.php?f=2t=5624st=0sk=tsd=astart=75

It seems to be fixed in 1.40 release.

PS.
I was able to downgrade transmission-common to 1.22 (it has no the bug stated
above), but transmission-gtk requires 1.34 - I think the last one should be
backported as well.

2008-12-03 Thread Sergiy Zuban
Since 1.34 has the bug that makes Transmission completely unusable and
forces users to switch to other programs, personally I think it doesn't
matter for end user how you are going to fix the bug - backport it or
make 1.40 available for all ubuntu releases where the bug occurs (assume
Hardy and Intrepid). In any case we shouldn't wait until Jaunty
released.

[Bug 302589] Re: Transmission - torrents disappearing after switching to minimal mode

2008-11-27 Thread Sergiy Zuban
I've updated ~ 50 packages (nothing related to transmission, but kernel
2.6.27-10) and I can't reproduce the bug now :(
Before update it occurred every time unconditionally when I switched to minimal
mode.

When I was trying to find something suspicious via strace output, I saw
only error like

read(3, 0x989dbd4, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
(I frequently see this error when stracing other applications, so probably
it's not related to the issue)

btw, when the bug occurred text 3 of 27 Torrents in status bar was
truncated to something like 3 of 27 Torre.

I was using gtk-recordMyDesktop to record the video.

[Bug 252094] Re: Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10

2008-11-24 Thread Sergiy Zuban
the XAA acceleration workaround just partially fixes that issue on dell
inspirion 1525.

With XAA:

+ no rendering glitches when starting new program (firefox, thunderbird, etc)
* OpenGL rendering still has problems (when moving glxgears window), but they
were on Hardy as well
- rendering issues still remains in Google Earth
- Google Earth works for 10-20 seconds and than system is completely freezes
(have to reboot)
- no video output in mplayer (if X11/Xv video driver chosen)
- web cam not working (have no idea how this could be related)

With EXA:

- rendering glitches when starting new program (firefox, thunderbird, etc)
+ Google Earth do not freezes, but have rendering issues (blinking)
+ video output in mplayer (if X11/Xv video driver chosen) allows to see
correct output when rotating compiz's cube (in Hardy it was not working)

Performance is the same in both accel modes ~ 500fps in glxgears. On
Hardy was ~ 1100fps.

[Bug 300454] [NEW] Log reader + History plugins issue

2008-11-20 Thread Sergiy Zuban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

I have configured Log reader plugin to read QIP logs, but some of my
contacts has ~1 messages and every time new message arrives Pidgin
freezes for about 3-4 minutes to parser the whole file and display last
conversations (History plugin turned on).

It's another question why it takes so long time to parser the file (i'm
going to post a separate ticket), but probably you need to add an option
to either Log reader of History plugin to show last several
conversations ONLY if it's possible to retrieve them quickly.

Note, in most cases there is no need to parser whole QIP's log + append
pidgin's logs and than display only last several conversations which
more then likely from pidgin's logs.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

[Bug 300460] [NEW] Pidgin's Log Reader plugin speed

2008-11-20 Thread Sergiy Zuban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Log Reader 2.5.2 plugin parsers QIP's log with ~1 messages about
3-4 minutes (pidgin freezed for all that time)

strace output gives me the following:

stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2057, ...}) = 0

Definitely there should be a way to optimize the code - now the plugin
is useless.
