[Bug 1169789] [NEW] Display does not work after ubuntu update
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 Sony Vaio CW Related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/668554 I started update process and came back an hour later to a blank screen. After reboot Ubuntu was loading but instead of login it came to a black screen again. Safe mode works, but not safe graphics mode. Blank screen is a common problem with Sony Vaio CW, and I had to do some special setup with external monitor to get it to work in 2010. Peter, try to MUTE then UNMUTE the audio in the volume control. I need to do
this regularly. Hope it works, should be easier than reboot...

This happens for me, but neither of us is or ever was in the Audio
group. If my wife uses the computer and switches to her account, when I
switch back the sound is dead and I have to reboot.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
This problem is very easy to reproduce.
- Logon as user A.
- Play sound.
- Switch user via Fast User Switching to user B.
- Switch back to A.
Now sound does not work.
The fix is to open a sound preferences dialog, go to Hardware and
re-select the hardware configuration, it starts working again.
It seems to occur on more than one computer.
It is highly annoying for my kids and I would love this to be fixed. I
can help all I can.

Same problem, on all my computers, default configuration ubuntu 10.04. One would expect that it should be possible to switch user and still use audio out of the box. IT WORKS! Kudos to michael37, connected laptop via wired network, and all system updates went through. I have the same problem both on Intrepod 8.10 and Jaunty 9.04 with totem-gstreamer plugin. I need this badly because when my grandfather watches a movie on bestrussiantv.com and it gets interrupted, he has to restart it and position to where he got dropped, but the slider on Totem stays dead.
