[Bug 574342] Re: GIMP set as default pdf viewer
Hello. The file mimeinfo.list apparently overrides mimeinfo.cache which seems to be recreated upon installing/upgrading packages. [Bug 1255428] Re: 8086:0116 [Lenovo IdeaPad Z570] LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics on Saucy
Hello. I downloaded the latest kernel 4.1.1 for the Trusty LTS that I am using and even there the behaviour is the same. Again the workarounds I previously mentioned still work. Now I'm not an expert but I really don't think this is a kernel bug at all because if the Xorg conf entry is there then the kernel seems to be perfectly capable of sending the requisite commands to the LCD firmware to adjust its brightness upon user hitting the hardware key. I don't have any pre-Saucy installations to test whether those versions automatically had the entry, or whether some change in the kernel or Xorg or elsewhere started requiring the existence of this conf file in order for the desired behaviour to be restored. So possibly you should be investigating why the Xorg conf file is no longer put in there by default by the installer or such... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255428 Title: 8086:0116 [Lenovo IdeaPad Z570] LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics on Saucy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1255428/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1406233] [NEW] kdev-python package should be made to align with upstream's kdevelop-python
Public bug reported: Upstream has recently added a package kdevelop-python containing the Py 3 plugin for KDevelop. When Kubuntu inherits this, we see two packages kdev-python for Py 2 and kdevelop-python for Py 3. Obviously, the naming situation is less than optimal. I have submitted an upstream bug asking for the kdevelop-python package to be renamed to kdevelop-python3 since it applies to Py 3 only. See https://bugs.debian.org/774141 Kubuntu should also align with upstream in the sense that the kdev- python should be renamed kdevelop-python once upstream moves the Py 3 plugin to kdevelop-python3. In fact, it would seem that kdev-python i.e. the Py 2 plugin need not be packaged separately downstream at all, and should instead be done upstream. ** Affects: kdev-python (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1406233 Title: kdev-python package should be made to align with upstream's kdevelop- python To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdev-python/+bug/1406233/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello Christopher. I did the update just now and nothing has changed. Here's the output you asked for: $ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 45CN38WW 10/21/2011 BTW as I already mentioned, I wonder if you are looking for the problem in the wrong place. I filed this bug against the kernel since I did not know where exactly else to file it and the hardware hotkey is not working. But as I said, if I manually adjust the contents of /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness the actual display brightness does change. The problem is only that I am not able to change the brightness via the keyboard hotkey as well as the power applet. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255428 Title: 8086:0116 [Lenovo IdeaPad Z570] LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics on Saucy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1255428/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1255428] Re: LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics on Saucy
apport information ** Tags added: staging ** Description changed: After upgrading to Saucy, on my Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 with Intel HD Graphics 3000, it is no longer possible to control the LCD brightness using the hardware brightness control keys. Likewise for the KDE power management settings or the battery icon on my Kubuntu Plasma tray. (I don't use GNOME/Unity.) Until Raring I did not have this problem. There is a workaround available from http://askubuntu.com/questions/362894/changing-the-brightness-stopped- working-in-13-10-saucy-salamander i.e. doing the following command on a terminal: echo 150 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness where 150 is on the scale of 0 to whatever is given within /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness. Based on this I wrote a GUI which however needs to be run using sudo/kdesudo/gksudo. I have attached it. [Bug 1255428] Re: LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics on Saucy
Hello Christopher. Sorry for the delay. I am having problems downloading the daily images but I trusted with Alpha 2, and the bug persists there. And I did not test the mainline kernels since as noted earlier, even with the Saucy kernel, if we directly write to /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness then the brightness does change, so even the default Saucy kernel is clearly capable of telling the hardware to change its brightness. The problem lies probably in that the GUI as in the power management applet popup and the keyboard hook which should handle the pressing of the physical brightness keys on keyboard are somehow not able to modify the /sys/class/backlight/* file or so. With the existing setup, I have having to sudo to modify the /sys/class/* file, so perhaps the process running the GUI popup or the keyboard hook does not have the relevant permissions to change the /sys/class/* file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255428 Title: LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics on Saucy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1255428/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1191673] [NEW] dvipng crashes even for simple input
Public bug reported: I'm running Kubuntu Raring, with versions as below: texlive-base: 2012.20120611-5 dvipng: 1.14-1build1 I have this simple document foo.tex: \documentclass[16pt]{article} \usepackage{amsmath,amssymb} \usepackage{breqn} \pagestyle{empty} \begin{document} $ \infty $ \end{document} I do latex foo.tex and I get the .dvi files with no problems. Then I do: dvipng -T tight -D 150 -bg Transparent -fg Blue -O 0cm,0cm foo.png foo.dvi I get this: This is dvipng 1.14 Copyright 2002-2010 Jan-Ake Larsson Segmentation fault (core dumped) gdb says there are no debugging symbols so I couldn't try that. Due to this dvipng problem I am not able to use SymPyPrt (https://github.com/scios/IPyXt) on IPython2/3: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sympy/WzwS3578TuU/sZAYDcFQ8cIJ I did not have a problem with using SymPyPrt on Kubuntu Precise of last year, and I thought dvipng has practically not changed in Raring since Precise: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=dvipngsearchon=namessuite=allsection=all except for a new build. The changelog http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/d/dvipng/dvipng_1.14-1build1/changelog says the new build is for some kpathsea transition. The upstream author reports that this works in Linux Mint and thinks it could be some kpathsea problem: http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/dvipng/2013-06/msg1.html. Surely in Kubuntu Precise there was no problem. I'm not sure about Quantal since I never used it (directly came Precise-Raring). [Bug 1191673] Re: dvipng crashes even for simple input
Turns out that the bug is partially topstream and partially in the Debian packaging. See http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/dvipng/2013-06/threads.html especially http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/dvipng/2013-06/msg4.html. The program as it stands depends on latex-xcolor, however the author intends to later on make it only a recommends and not a dependency. Until such time, it should be added as depends. I have hence changed the bug title and linked to the upstream Debian bug I reported. Thanks. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #712570 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=712570 ** Also affects: dvipng (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=712570 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Summary changed: - dvipng crashes even for simple input + dvipng should depend on latex-xcolor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1191673 Title: dvipng should depend on latex-xcolor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dvipng/+bug/1191673/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1186328] [NEW] llvm-dev should depend on binutils-gold
Public bug reported: I am using Kubuntu Raring 64-bit. I have recently started using Clang for my C/C++ compilation work. -O4 option in Clang means link-time optimization via LLVM, which requires LLVMgold.so, which obviously requires gold. However, currently llvm-dev which provides LLVMgold.so doesn't depend on binutils-gold. Please observe the following session transcript: [samjnaa:~/bn/c/llvmgold-test] cat increment.c int increment ( int a ) { return a + 1 ; } [samjnaa:~/bn/c/llvmgold-test] clang -O4 -c increment.c -fPIC -Wall -Wextra [samjnaa:~/bn/c/llvmgold-test] clang -O4 -shared -o increment.so increment.o -fPIC -Wall -Wextra /usr/bin/ld: /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: error loading plugin: /usr/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) [samjnaa:~/bn/c/llvmgold-test] sudo apt-get install llvm-dev Reading package lists... Therefore please make it so that llvm-dev depends on binutils- gold. Two other points: 1. I'm not very clear about why LLVMgold.so is placed in llvm-dev instead of something like llvm-gold-plugin -- but I'll leave the decision to the maintainers. 2. This is probably an upstream Debian bug but since I don't use that distro I am reporting it here. Please take it upstream if appropriate. ** Affects: llvm-defaults (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1186328 Title: llvm-dev should depend on binutils-gold To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-defaults/+bug/1186328/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Please refer to my thread at the upstream mailing list: https://groups.google.com/d/topic/sphinx-dev/FHgjgSYPYaU/discussion. It is not possible to use python3-sphinx on Raring for the simple reason that in Raring python3-sphinx is at v1.1.3 but python3 is at v3.3.1 and apparently one requires python3-sphinx v1.2 to use sphinx on python3 = 3.3: see https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sphinx-dev/FHgjgSYPYaU/LffSg_- qCVEJ It doesn't seem as if this can be fixed on raring unless raring-updates can get python3-sphinx. Navid, please cease and desist from making unhelpful comments. I myself would like to see this bug fixed soon, and I also do not have enough C-knowledge to contribute a patch, and I do occasionally post hello can anybody please fix this bug kind of comments to bug reports, but at least I try to stay polite and *request* something of the developers who obviously have a particular skill which I don't. It is my experience that more often than not, developers are quite polite and at least explain why the bug can't be fixed soon or something like that. Now my polite request: can any of the kind developers fix this bug please? I'm sure with your skills it would be a simple job if someone just allocated a small amount of time to it? After upgrading my Kubuntu system to Oneiric, the ibus stopped working (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/854333) so I'm falling back to XIM which IMHO is much cleaner even if not context-sensitive. [Bug 780040] Re: wifi softblocked atheros ar9285 cannot unblock ideapad z570
Now here's something weird. In comment #31 I had reported that by running the 2.6.38-10 Ubuntu repo kernel I had no problems. Actually it's like this. Once I have booted using the mainline 2.6.37-6 kernel, *then* even if boot using the 2.6.38-10 Ubuntu kernel (but NOT if I do so using the 2.6.38-8 kernel) the wireless is still working. I tested this on another installation of Natty where directly upgrading to the 2.6.38-10 Ubuntu kernel doesn't solve the problem without using the 2.6.37-6 mainline kernel. [Bug 780040] Re: wifi softblocked atheros ar9285 cannot unblock ideapad z570
Hello -- just yesterday I have done the apport-collect stuff. At that time you had asked us to do it and then change the status to new which I did. Now your script again automatically marked it incomplete and asks us once more to do apport-collect and then change the status to confirmed. Please clarify whether you really want us to run apport- collect once more. I have now changed the status to confirmed though. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780040 Title: wifi softblocked atheros ar9285 cannot unblock ideapad z570 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/780040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 812210] [NEW] KDE file picker called by GTK applications throws false Overwrite warning
Public bug reported: I am using Kubuntu Natty. My LibreOffice automatically comes with KDE integration in the form of the libreoffice-kde package which provides a KDE file picker. I have also installed firefox-kde-support to allow my manually installed Firefox to use the KDE file picker. Both these GTK applications when integrated with KDE show this error: 1. Create a temporary directory just for testing: mkdir /tmp/foo 2. Open a webpage in KDE or a file in LibreOffice. 3. Open the Save As dialog -- you should get the KDE file picker. 4. In the Name box enter /tmp/foo and press Enter. Actual Result: It throws a warning asking whether I want to overwrite /tmp/foo. This warning is out of place because /tmp/foo is a directory and my typing it into the address field and pressing Enter is clearly telling the dialog box to open that directory in the folder pane. This is how the Save As box of *all other KDE applications* handles it. Expected Result: Other KDE applications (I tested Kate and Okteta) do NOT throw such a warning as they detect /tmp/foo is a directory and simply open it in the directory pane. I am filing this bug against the source packages kmozillahelper and libreoffice. ** Affects: kmozillahelper (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/812210 Title: KDE file picker called by GTK applications throws false Overwrite warning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmozillahelper/+bug/812210/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 780040] Re: wifi softblocked atheros ar9285 cannot unblock ideapad z570
Hello people. Now have added requested information. Further I have now upgraded my kernel to latest 2.6.38-10 and retested the bug by removing the extra lines I added to rc.local. Apparently the unloading of the wrongfully loaded acer_wmi module is still required (whether on the terminal or via rc.local) but does fix the bug on the new kernel so it is not necessary to go to the mainline 2.6.37-x kernel. However, obviously the acer_wmi module should not be loaded on a Lenovo IdeaPad laptop so the bug still does exist. When I do tail /var/log/syslog, I get: Jul 3 12:02:45 sarvajnatma kernel: [40957.250052] usb 1-1.2: USB disconnect, address 25 Jul 3 12:02:48 sarvajnatma kernel: [40960.787569] usb 1-1.2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 26 Jul 3 12:02:48 sarvajnatma kernel: [40960.885152] cdc_acm 1-1.2:1.1: ttyACM0: USB ACM device Jul 3 12:02:48 sarvajnatma kernel: [40960.889559] usb 1-1.2: bad CDC descriptors Jul 3 12:02:48 sarvajnatma kernel: [40960.889745] usb 1-1.2: bad CDC descriptors Jul 3 12:02:48 sarvajnatma kernel: [40960.892082] cdc_phonet: probe of 1-1.2:1.12 failed with error -22 Jul 3 12:02:59 sarvajnatma kernel: [40971.578728] usb 1-1.2: USB disconnect, address 26 Jul 3 12:10:52 sarvajnatma kernel: [41444.210026] usb 1-1.2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 27 Jul 3 12:10:52 sarvajnatma kernel: [41444.316307] cdc_acm 1-1.2:1.1: ttyACM0: USB ACM device Jul 3 12:10:52 sarvajnatma kernel: [41444.320451] usb 1-1.2: bad CDC descriptors Jul 3 12:10:52 sarvajnatma kernel: [41444.320608] usb 1-1.2: bad CDC descriptors Jul 3 12:10:52 sarvajnatma kernel: [41444.322606] cdc_phonet: probe of 1-1.2:1.12 failed with error -22 I will attach entire /var/log/syslog. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC272 Analog [ALC272 Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: samjnaa1818 F pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'PCH'/'HDA Intel PCH at 0xd060 irq 43' +Mixer name : 'Intel CougarPoint HDMI' +Components : 'HDA:10ec0272,17aa6016,0011 HDA:80862805,80860101,0010' +Controls : 23 +Simple ctrls : 12 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=ba00d992-e43e-4bce-8689-9647370add15 + InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Release i386 (20110427) + MachineType: LENOVO HuronRiver Platform + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=en_US + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.38-10-generic root=UUID=cafbb6db-9f59-44ca-be9a-c289c2005634 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-10.46-generic 2.6.38.7 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-2.6.38-10-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-2.6.38-10-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.52 + Tags: natty + Uname: Linux 2.6.38-10-generic i686 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare vboxusers + dmi.bios.date: 02/22/2011 + dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.bios.version: 45CN28WW + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: Emerald Lake + dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.board.version: FAB1 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.chassis.version: 0.1 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr45CN28WW:bd02/22/2011:svnLENOVO:pnHuronRiverPlatform:pvrIdeapadZ570:rvnLENOVO:rnEmeraldLake:rvrFAB1:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvr0.1: + dmi.product.name: HuronRiver Platform + dmi.product.version: Ideapad Z570 + dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Attachment added: AcpiTables.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805201/+attachment/2216414/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805201 Title: Nokia C5 phone erratically fails to connect to net To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/805201/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
