[Bug 1774640] Re: Bluetooth turns off automatically Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2020-11-11 Thread Simon P.
I can confirm this problem for Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10 on a Thinkpad
X260.

The bluetooth button in the Bluetooth settings does nothing after it is
automatically turned off. However, I can enable Bluetooth again by
turning it off and on again Bluetooth in the menu top bar.

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-12-27 Thread Simon P.
It is quite concerning to see how long it takes to fix security-
sensitive bugs like this in Ubuntu.

Anyways, what I wanted to add: To kind of make it worse, after the bug
happens and after logging in, the dock is not working properly any more
- when new programs are started that were not on the launcher before,
the according symbol is not displayed in the launcher.

2018-10-24 Thread Simon P.
I am experiencing this issue too since the upgrade to 18.10. Sometimes
in addition to the launcher I can even see an open program! Cannot use
the program interface though before going to the unlock screen by
pressing super + l and unlocking the system.

I have gnome-tweaks installed, used it only to activate the Yaru theme
which was not working after the upgrade (bug 1798984). So I guess that
doesn't qualify as play with it.

[Bug 1770135] [NEW] Rhythmbox initially crashes when trying to play a song

2018-05-09 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 18.04 and Rhythmbox 3.4.2 I have the following problem:
Rhythmbox initially crashes when I try to play a song. When I open it
again it plays the song as expected without crashing.

How to reproduce the bug:
1) Open rhythmbox.
2) Search for a song. Doublecklick it to play it.
--> Rhythmbox will crash. Open rhythmbox again, it works without crashing now.
3) Close rhythmbox with the Ctrl + Q command. Start over at 1), bug appears

[Bug 1748611] Re: Desktop symbols disappear after changing symbol size in nautilus

2018-05-02 Thread Simon P.
It is not a duplicate of bug 1537606. The problem I reported is that the
icons disappear on the desktop when they are placed at the right side

correlation of the icon size of nautilus and the desktop as a problem,
the problem is that the icons disappear! That bug first appeared with

[Bug 1748611] [NEW] Desktop symbols disappear after changing symbol size in nautilus

2018-02-10 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

Problem: When changing the size of folder symbols in the nautilus file
browser, the symbol size for desktop symbols is also changed. That might
result in the (temporary) disappearing of desktop symbols.

How to reproduce the bug: Place some symbols on the right edge of the
desktop. Open nautilus, increase the size of symbols. The symbol size
for the desktop and the symbol grid size are also affected by that
change, symbols placed at the edge will disappear.

What I expect to happen: Changing the symbol size in nautilus should not
affect the desktop symbol size/symbol grid size.

What actually happens: Changing the symbol size in nautilus will change
the desktop symbol size/ grid size, symbols on the desktop might
disappear.

2018-01-22 Thread Simon P.
I don't understand why that bug was marked as fixed when the standard
vlc package in Ubuntu is obviously not fixed and still causing those
crashes and bothering users. And I really don't see the point for
opening a new bug report for the same old problem, so I just changed the
status of this bug.

Side note: In the current snap package of vlc 3.0.0-rc7 those crashes
are not happening any more. As there are other minor issues in that snap
(like no disabling of screen timeout while video playback), that is not
a perfect workaround yet for users who prefer vlc.

[Bug 1740700] [NEW] rhythmbox keeps playing music after closing

2017-12-31 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

I am on 17.10 now but I also experienced the following behaviour all
recent Ubuntu versions.

What I expect to happen: After closing Rhythmbox by pressing "x" in the menu
bar, the program should really close and music should stop playing.

What actually happens: Rhythmbox keeps running in the background. To
finally stop the music I have to press pause in the Gnome shell addon
(17.10) or press the audio button in the top panel and pause the music
there (17.04 and prior versions).

I know that this a "feature" rather than a real bug. However, this behaviour
very counterintuitive - all other programs (included in Ubuntu by default)
close on "x". Plus it does not even have any benefit on usability- we have that
neat dock to park programs that run in the background.

Therefore I see no reason that Rhythmbox should in this regard behave
different and I would call it a bug in user experience. I think it
should be changed, at least in future Ubuntu versions.

[Bug 1725457] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_tree_view_get_column()

2017-10-27 Thread Simon P.
The reason for my crashes of Rhythmbox seems to be the alternative
appearance extension. With the extension disabled in the program
settings I cannot reproduce those crashes.

** Package changed: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) => rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-
toolbar (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1725457] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_tree_view_get_column()

2017-10-23 Thread Simon P.
No, I do not filter the view of my music library. And yes, on my system
I can reproduce the bug:

1) Open Rythmbox
2) Add a song from the music library to the queue
3) Go to the queue and click on the song that was just added to play it.

Normally Rhythmbox will crash now. If not, repeat steps 2 and 3.

[Bug 1722764] [NEW] Drag and drop for unzipping files not working

2017-10-11 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

I created a zip file containing several photos. When trying to unzip
them I run into the following bug:

What I expect to happen: When I am dragging the photos from the zip file
to some folder, I expect file roller to extract the photos to that
location. Like it used to work like this in previous versions of Ubuntu.

What actually happens: Nothing. Files cannot be extracted with the
drag-and-drop function.

[Bug 1722487] Re: Failing to open some pictures - Improper call to JPEG library in state 200

2017-10-11 Thread Simon P.
It usually happens when I am switching between the photos in eog and going back
and forth. I have not really worked out a logic behind the error yet, but it
seems to happen more with some photos than others. Once I get the error, I can
just jump to the next picture and go back and it opens without problems.
I am attaching a few of the photos that failed to be displayed in eog
frequently.

[Bug 1721271] Re: Bluetooth and Wifi: coexistence Problem

2017-10-10 Thread Simon P.
I have a very similar problem to the one described above by John Tanner, so I
thought I would add my information here instead of opening a new bug report.
My bluetooth is not working as long as I am connected to a Wifi - I cannot pair
with new devices, send or receive files. I can connect to a wireless network
without any problems while having bluetooth active - but bluetooth is not
working any more then.
Furthermore I noticed that my Laptop is shown as "Bluemoon universal Bluetooth"
on my phone instead of the proper device name.

[Bug 1722487] [NEW] Failing to open some pictures - Improper call to JPEG library in state 200

2017-10-10 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

When I am inserting the SD card of my camera in the PC and have a look
at the pictures, eog sometimes fails to show them, giving this error:
Improper call to JPEG library in state 200

I get that error when I am using the keyboard arrows to go back and forth
between the pictures I took. The next time I try to open the picture, it is
shown without a problem.

Whan I expect to happen: When playing a video in vlc and switching to
fullscreen mode everything should work fine. Also when changing to a
different position of a movie in fullscreen I expect the player to just
  switch to that position.

What actually happens: It seems to depend a little on the file type of

[Bug 1665899] [NEW] No networks shown after turning wifi off/on

2017-02-18 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

After switching the wifi off and on again, wireless networks are not
displayed any more in the network manager applet. However, my PC
connects to the network. Sidenote: also showing the wrong connection
symbol - the one that is used for Ethernet connections instead of wifi
-> see attached screenshot

My system is running a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.2, also had this problem
with 16.04.1
Network manager is version 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3

Just now I ran into the same bug I reported more than two years ago in

open the copy dialogue with the right-click-menu. However, I cannot tell
why that is the case.

[Bug 1508718] Re: NetworkManager - error initialzing editor

2016-03-24 Thread Simon P.
I have the same problem sometimes with my mobile broadband. Using a
Huawei ME908s WWAN card under Ubuntu 15.10. Joosts workaround doesn't
work for me though as I seem to only e able to use a connection that was
created with the "add mobile broadband connection" wizard.

[Bug 1552906] Re: System freezes after closing lid on Thinkpad X260

2016-03-22 Thread Simon P.
After some difficulties I was able to test the kernel patch today and I
can confirm it solves the issue.

A sidenote: It often takes noticeably longer for my PC to enter the
suspend mode with the new patched kernel than before.

[Bug 1537053] Re: vlc screen always on top, buggly.

It indeed seems to be a problem with the new skylake hardware rather than a
vlc- specific problem .
I found a fix on github that worked for me:

[Bug 1537053] Re: vlc screen always on top, buggly.

2016-03-10 Thread Simon P.
Today I installed the latest graphics drivers directly from intel with
the Intel graphics installer, it did not help to fix the problem.

By the way, the skype video chat is also acting very strange, the video
flashes and gets blue sometimes and my new laptop completely freezes
frequently. I suspect that the skype videochat problem is connected with
the vlc video problem described above.

[Bug 1552906] Re: System freezes after closing lid on Thinkpad X260

2016-03-09 Thread Simon P.
I was not able to get information via the linux-crashdump tool, but I
added the kern.log file to this comment with information starting from
the system start until closing the lid. After closing the lid there was
no more new information in the kern.log file and I had to perform a hard
reboot.

[Bug 1552906] Re: System freezes after closing lid on Thinkpad X260

2016-03-08 Thread Simon P.
Thanks for your further instructions. I just tested the latest upstream
kernel 4.5.0rc7, the problem still exists.

** Description changed:

My current Ubuntu version is 14.04.4 but I also tried 15.10.
Regardless of the Ubuntu version there is a serious problem with my new
Thinkpad X260 when it is in battery mode and I close and reopen the lid. The
problem is not affecting the suspend mode as it still occurs when this mode is
disabled.

what I expect to happen: After closing the lid the screen goes off. When
I open the lid again, screen goes on and I can use the laptop.

what happens every time: When I close the lid the screen turns black.
When I open the lid again the screen displays the system but it is
frozen and does not react on input.

Interestingly I can not reproduce this problem when the laptop is connected
to an AC power source.
