[Bug 1793595] Re: [radeon] Shell freezes, mostly when running chrome or editing text files.

2019-05-25 Thread Simone Tolotti
I can confirm this bug is an upstream bug.
I moved from Ubuntu to Fedora for this reason but it's still present even on
the latest Fedora 30 with kernel 5.0.17.
Gnome shell (xorg or wayland) freezes mostly when using Chrome, I can't get Sys
info during the freeze because keyboard and mouse aren't responding.
No issues on KDE Plasma desktop.
Tested on my work laptop (above 8 hours daily activity), Gnome freezes 4/5
times a day.

Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT
[Radeon R7 M260/M265 / M340/M360 / M440/M445] (rev c1)

It also happens on my home desktop PC with Radeon HD7000.

[Bug 805214] Re: Dragging a bookmark from the URL bar in Firefox makes the Launcher appear

2012-02-03 Thread Simone Tolotti
I can confirm this bug in Oneiric with Chrome browser. If I try to move
a bookmark, or add from urlbar to bookmarks-bar my mouse pointer hangs
until Unity panel is shown. Sometimes this makes impossible to add a
bookmark to the bokkmarks-bar.

I think the solution could be to enable dragdrop to Unity only when
pressing Super (or Alt) key.

2009-12-02 Thread Simone Tolotti
@Edouard: I think that the bugs are in some manner related. I've read
that the workaround for nozomi modems is use the module from the 2.6.28
series kernel. I also had success running a 2.6.28 kernel.

I'll file a bug upstream (linux bugzilla), I think you should do the
same.

[Bug 417389] Re: [karmic] Can't connect w/ Option Globesurfer Icon 1.8Mbit/s 3G usb Modem

2009-11-26 Thread Simone Tolotti
I can confirm that the issue could be kernel related. I've tried both 2.6.28-16
(from jaunty-updates) and 2.6.31-15 on the same system (Karmic amd64) with the
same mm and nm version (latest from ppa).
When booting kernel 2.6.28-16 NM connects at the first attempt. When running
2.6.31-15 it connects at the sencond (third..fourth) and it takes much longer
before connecting (10-20 sec.).
How do I get debug logs for this situation?

2009-11-11 Thread Simone Tolotti
@Luca, Alexander: I'm sending Nm and MM logs since about 3 months, so I'm also
trying to help. I never asked them to hurry up or lamented about this bug.
The only thing that bother me is that the bug is marked as fixed when it is
not.

Thanks,
Simone

PS. There is no problem for me to use a pon/poff script to connect with the
modem (that is the only way I have to reach the web), but I'm thinking at the
normal user that after upgrading to Karmic has lost his ability to connect to
the net.
Moreover a lot of apps (at least in Gnome) depends on NM, for example Evolution
and Empathy.
PPS. I have 4 partitions on my PC with Jaunty,Karmic (Gnome), Karmic (KDE, the
one I use everyday) and OpenSUSE 11.2. ;-)

Actually it doesn't ever connect at the second attempt, sometimes at the third
fourth and so on...and sometimes it doesn't work at all.
I'm still wondering how you could say that the bug is fixed even if it would
always working at the second attempt.
It seems that the DNS problem is corrected.

I'm wondering how it may have been marked as 'fix released'.
Today I've tried t connect 4 times without success, and I have to use my pon
script to reach the net.
I've googled around and it seems that a lot of 3G modems aren't supported by
NM0.8 and ModemManager.
I'm also wondering why NM0.8 was included in Karmic despite this kind of
regressions.
I'm expecting to find an alert on ubuntu.com that says: If you have a 3G modem
please don't upgrade to Karmic!!!

2009-10-30 Thread Simone Tolotti
@alexander : ATM NetworkManager always works for me at the second attempt. The
first time I try to connect it seems to start (nm-applet icon shows rotating
arrows) but after few seconds it says that the netwok is disconnected. The
second time it takes longer to start connecting (2-3 seconds before arrows
start to rotate ... in the log I see that NM tries to inizialize the device)
but the connection attempt is succesful.
The DNS problem happens every time. It didn't happened in NM 0.7.

Confirmed also un Kubuntu karmic kernel 2.6.31-13. Kde don't use
pulseaudio here so I think it is a kernel related issue.

2009-09-06 Thread Simone Tolotti
That's what I did:
- Upgraded packages
NM to 0.8~a~git.20090904t224209.bee58e3-0ubuntu1~nmt1
network-manager-gnome 0.8~a~git.20090906t102542.3835aa6-0ubuntu1~nmt1
modem-manager 0.2.git.20090904t192653.d317254-0ubuntu2~nmt1

- Added /etc/defaults/NetworkManager file
- Restarted my PC
- sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop
- sudo killall -9 modem-manager
- sudo modem-manager --debug
- sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager start
- started the connection through nm-applet.

[Bug 417389] Re: [karmic] Can't connect w/ Option Globesurfer Icon 1.8Mbit/s 3G usb Modem

2009-09-05 Thread Simone Tolotti
I've tried to add username and password , I've also tried to disable
some of the authentication methods, then I've added manual DNSs, but
none of this action helped.

I've noticed that only the first time I try to connect, the connection
seems to start (rotating nm-applet icon), when the connection fails, or
I stop it, I have to restart NM daemon before I can try another time.

I've also noticed that on Jaunty when I start the connection the lights on the
modem are blinking until a successful connection and then they stays on.
On Karmic there are no changes in the modem lights status when I try to
connect. So I think that the problem isn't related to the authentication
process, IMHO It doesn't start dialing the *99# number at all.
I'm using this modem on Linux since before NM has appeared on my desktop, I had
to do a lot of attempts through wvdial (and pon/poff scripts) and I'm pretty
sure that even with a wrong APN the lights starts blinking when I try to
connect.

Please forgive me for my bad english...hope you understand anyway. ;-)

Yes APN is correct and my provider don't ask for username/password so I
left them blank as I do with Jaunty and NM 0.7

The bug was fixed in Jaunty by installing udev-extras.
No need for addictional packages in Karmic because udev rules for option modem
are in udev core package.

[Bug 347365] [NEW] [Jaunty] NetworkManager can't connect to 3G/CDMA network since 0.7.1-RC3

2009-03-23 Thread Simone Tolotti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I'm testing Ubuntu Janty with NM 0.7.0.99 (0.7.1-RC3).
The connection for my usb 3G/HSDPA modem sometimes doesn't work.
I select the connection through nm-applet and it seems to start connecting but
after few seconds I get the message that the network is disconnected.
I use the same configuration as in Intrepid w/ NM-0.7 where the connection
works flawlessy every time I use it.

I've tried to restart NM with /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart and to
unplug/replug the modem's usb cable and sometimes the
connection works fine.
I've seen that the modem works fine if I shutdown the machine and than boot up
again.

Other information:
I have an Option Icon 1.8mb/s modem :
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0af0:6600 Option GlobeTrotter 3G+ datacard

In jaunty I have installed udev-extras to manage the switch from usb-
storage to usbserial.

The issue only happens when I'm connected with a 3G modem (ppp0 interface).
When using eth0 interface the network monitor works correctly.
It could be that the applet is only monitoring wired connections?

I'm experiencing the same issue on Jaunty (it works in Intrepid).

gome-system-monitor correctly displays the network usage , the system
monitor applet not!

I've noticed that the flavor of net monitor in the applet has changed to
yellow since Jaunty, but I don't think the issue is related to the
color... ;-)

[Bug 338453] [NEW] [needs packaging] usbmodeswitch a 'must have' for 3G card owners

2009-03-05 Thread Simone Tolotti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

From package description:
Several new USB devices have their proprietary Windows drivers onboard,
especially WAN dongles. When plugged in for the first time, they act
like a flash storage and start installing the driver from there. If
the driver is already installed, the storage device vanishes and
a new device, such as an USB modem, shows up. This is called the
ZeroCD feature.

On Debian, this is not needed, since the driver is included as a
Linux kernel module, such as usbserial. However, the device still
shows up as usb-storage by default. usb-modeswitch solves that
issue by sending the command which actually performs the switching
of the device from usb-storage to usbserial

You could find package in Pmarti's PPA:

[Bug 338453] Re: [needs packaging] usbmodeswitch a 'must have' for 3G card owners

2009-03-05 Thread Simone Tolotti
The package was included in OpenSUSE from 11.0.
The .deb file from Pmarti's PPA is missing some essential files that I've found
in OpenSUSE .rpm and attached here.
