[Bug 743310] Re: Firefox menu bar disappears in Unity

2011-04-03 Thread Skion
Just noticed a similar thing happens with Evolution: occasionally it
only leaves a File-Close (Ctrl-W) menu option, which must be a
reminiscent from another window, as the Evolution main window doesn't
have an option like that.

[Bug 743310] [NEW] Firefox menu bar disappears in Unity

2011-03-26 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

When running Firefox for a while, the programs menu disappears from the
top Unity bar; hovering over it hides the title of the currently loaded

[Bug 371388] Re: No password prompt after suspending to RAM

2010-02-03 Thread Skion
This happens to me always (close lid and manual suspend) and indeed is a
bit of a security concern to me too.

I have /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/suspend set to true.

I'm having the same problem, these are really hard lock ups. Using
identical resolutions is not an option for me, since laptop screen and
flat panel are completely differently sized.

2009-09-18 Thread Skion
Triggered by your comment I noticed the -ati driver was not installed (I
probably removed that earlier). Installing this made the problem
disappear! (Although my display goes blank for a short time about every
minute, but this may be hardware releated.)

Maybe someone wants to keep this bug for the VESA part still...
otherwise close it.

[Bug 432078] [NEW] Does not detect 1920x1200 resolution with radeon

2009-09-17 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

With a non-existing xorg.conf file, my (Samsung 2443BW) monitor is not
detected properly. Max resolution found is 1600x1200, while it should be
1920x1200.

The mode line is seen in the Xorg.log:
(II) VESA(0): Modeline 1920x1200x0.0 154.00 1920 1968 2000 2080 1200 1203
1209 1235 +hsync -vsync (74.0 kHz)

But it's not used. Also, although xserver-xorg-video-radeon is
installed, there is no reference to that module being loaded at start.
lshw in turn lists the graphics controller as unclaimed:

   *-display UNCLAIMED
description: VGA compatible controller
product: Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
physical id: 5
bus info: p...@:01:05.0
version: 00
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz

configuration: latency=0
resources: memory:d800-dfff(prefetchable)
ioport:ee00(size=256) memory:fdbe-fdbe memory:fda0-fdaf

Two problems I think I see are:
- radeon module not being used
- vesa module not using a big enough virtual screen size

Let me know what more info is needed.

[Bug 426479] [NEW] Blank screen and screen corruption on suspend/hibernate + resume on AMD 780G

2009-09-08 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

I always get a blank screen on resuming from both suspend and hibernate
on karmic. Switching to a console and back results in some, but severely
corrupted visuals.

When running it with debugging as described on the wiki, I see this in
dmesg:

[0.918637] powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 Processor
processors (3 cpu cores) (version 2.20.00)
[0.918644] [Firmware Bug]: powernow-k8: No compatible ACPI _PSS objects
found.
[0.918645] [Firmware Bug]: powernow-k8: Try again with latest BIOS.
[0.918822] PM: Resume from disk failed.
[0.918830] registered taskstats version 1

[0.918926] tty tty56: hash matches
[0.918936] ohci_hcd :00:13.1: hash matches

But my modules only have this reference to ohci:

$ lsmod | grep ohci
ohci1394 33780 0
ieee1394 100896 1 ohci1394

and the problem does not go away when running:

$ modprobe -r ohci1394

before suspend or hibernate. The fact that the same happens with both
suspend and hibernate, leads me to think that it is a problem with a
module.

I now see that this is not gksu at all, but policykit. One thing still
holds: The current user could be preselected if possible.

2009-08-09 Thread Skion

a gnome-panel. However this doesn't work anymore, you can drag an item

[Bug 411118] [NEW] Privilege granting is much more annoying in Karmic

2009-08-09 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

Small thingy, but when having multiple user accounts, since karmic the
privilege granting window requires you to first select which 'admin'
user you actually want to use for this action. For an action that is so
frequent, this is an waste of clicks. In my opinion the window should at
least preselect the current user, esp. if he is an admin, since chances
are very small you would want to use someone else's credentials.

That said, there seems to be no way to remember authorisations for the
cpu frequency scaling applet anymore (not sure if there used to be a way
for this). Isn't this something that should be unlocked at login?

[Bug 411181] [NEW] sane detects but doesn't scan with HP network scanner

2009-08-09 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

Scanner is detected correctly on Karmic:

# scanimage -L
device `hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_M1120n_MFP?ip=192.168.1.200' is a
Hewlett-Packard HP_LaserJet_M1120n_MFP all-in-one

And is supported by sane, according to:
http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-HEWLETT-PACKARD

But scanning consistently gives this:

# scanimage
scanimage: open of device hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_M1120n_MFP?ip=192.168.1.200
failed: Error during device I/O

Same message with running xsane, as root or normal user.

[Bug 192009] Re: gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear

2009-04-15 Thread Skion
Using gnome-panel (1:2.26.0-0ubuntu6) my gnome-panels are still swapped
when compared to intrepid, but reading the above comments makes me think
that this version should behave the same again as it did with intrepid?
Does anyone have a manual fix already? Adding --primary to the xrandr
command does not seem to work for me.

$ xrandr --output LVDS --auto --left-of VGA --output VGA --primary --auto
$ xrandr --output LVDS --primary --auto --left-of VGA --output VGA --auto

both do the same, but when using --right-of in stead of --left-of
strangely the panels _are_ put on the external screen!

$ xrandr --output LVDS --auto --right-of VGA --output VGA --auto

Seems like the leftmost screen is preferred for primary?

[Bug 192009] Re: gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear

2009-04-15 Thread Skion
Damien, no, but just tried it now and that command gives panels on the
LVDS too. Also:

$ xrandr --output VGA --auto --right-of LVDS --output LVDS --auto

does the same. I've swapped my screens for now, so the big one is on the
left.

[Bug 147560] Re: Kernel detects battery management wrong (MSI PR200 / System76)

2008-10-19 Thread Skion
I can confirm that after an upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid just a few
days ago the battery behaviour got worse. I am now on 2.6.27-7-generic
SMP x86_64.

The battery and AC status seem to be detected correctly during boot, but
after that the charge applet displays: Battery state could not be read
at this time, and also detects the AC state wrong.

This is on an MSI S271 (1058) with BIOS version 1.21. When booting the
supplied Windows XP, battery status works perfectly.

[Bug 252200] [NEW] ssh-agent does not expire key

2008-07-26 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

When I add an SSH key to ssh-agent the lifetime (-t) parameter seems to
be ignored:

$ ssh-add -t 1 /home/pieter/.ssh/id_work
$ ssh-add -l
1024 76:a9:b1:c4:af:ef:b5:b9:6e:39:05:91:c9:a2:b7:89 (DSA)
$ ssh [work]
--OK

Now I wait, and after 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour I can still login.
However, deleting the key manually:

$ ssh-add -D
All identities removed.

does expire the key correctly:
$ ssh [work]
Permission denied (publickey).

This is risky when you lose a laptop, since the thief has infinite time
to login to your hosts. The key should expire after the set expiry
time...

Same problem here... (on a MSI S271, amd64)

Gnome battery readings are all over the place, but
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state seems to report the correct values. Any
chance a fix for this will make it into hardy still?

[Bug 134962] rt2500: network-manager fails to join wireless networks

2007-08-26 Thread Skion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Network manager is unable to join wireless networks except some
unencrypted ones on my rt2500 chipset.

This is on Gutsy (2.6.22-10-generic).

Possibly related: network-manager fails to set the wlan0 mode to ad-hoc
when trying to join a computer-computer network.

In both cases, it does associate with the network correctly when running
the commands from the command-line.
