[Bug 1584475] Re: No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

2018-07-23 Thread Smeuuh
I updated from linux mint 18 to 19, and I have a problem with this, a
different one this time: my dance pad gets detected as a bogus
accelerometer, and programs cannot use it. dmesg output is:

/dev/input/js0 reports periodic input, and gets detected by stepmania as an
axis change. The actual input does not do anything. As root, I have in
/dev/input/by-path/ the following:
pci-:00:14.0-usb-0:4.1:1.0-event
pci-:00:14.0-usb-0:4.1:1.0-event-joystick
pci-:00:14.0-usb-0:7:1.0-event

Of these, when I cat /dev/input/by-
path/pci-\:00\:14.0-usb-0\:4.1\:1.0-event-joystick it does register
input, although I have no idea how to make stepmania use that. The
others are silent.

2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I cannot test other kernels because then my keyboard is non-functional for some
reason.

[Bug 1584475] Re: No input events for FutureMax Dance Mat

2016-06-05 Thread Smeuuh
I have the exact same bug. Using Linux Mint 17.3 (based on Ubuntu
14.04.1), with kernel 3.19.0-32-generic

uname -a :
Linux epsilon 3.19.0-32-generic #37~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 22 09:41:40 UTC
2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It used to work fine on Linux Mint 17.1 (kernel 3.13).

[Bug 855624] Re: nothing happens when I click

2011-09-26 Thread Smeuuh
Hi,

Sorry if I was not clear. I'm using gnome-panel, and the bug is still
present in the latest version. It's not too bad really cause I can see
the battery status with the tooltips, but since it works fine on unity
(haven't tried unity2D), I guess it's a bug.

[Bug 855615] [NEW] menu bar appears even if disabled

2011-09-21 Thread Smeuuh
Public bug reported:

I have the menubar disabled, via the options in my profile. When I run a

menubar goes away.

[Bug 750195] [NEW] No refresh when switching between fullscreen apps

2011-04-04 Thread Smeuuh
Public bug reported:

When I switch virtual desktops between two fullscreen applications,
sometimes the application I switch to isn't refreshed - I have to either
switch back and forth again, or move stuff around in the window. This
behaviour is erratic and I don't have a good recipe to reproduce it.
This is using ubuntu 10.4 beta 1, didn't happen on 10.10. I'm using
intel drivers.

[Bug 503372] Re: Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid

2010-04-29 Thread Smeuuh
The fix works. However, the window still runs in medium size, and is
only resized to full size after a small but noticeable amount of time. I
believe the previous version did not have this behaviour, so this is a
regression. Presumably the settings are now loaded after the main window
is created, while they should be loaded before.

[Bug 554349] [NEW] fsck complains some errors can't be fixed, then loops

2010-04-02 Thread Smeuuh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: e2fsprogs

Just happened to me, on up-to-date lucid, amd64 on ext4.
I had some corruption error on my hard drive, which were picked up by fsck on
reboot. fsck did its magic, then rebooted. On next reboot, the following
infinite loop occured: fsck gets invoked, says there are orphaned nodes in a
linked list, and says it can't fix it because it was invoked automatically
(with -a or -p). Then it dies, but init scripts run it again. It fails with the
same diagnostic, and so on. I couldn't bypass fsck by getting into recovery
mode, so I had to run fsck from a live USB. Obviously, I can't reproduce this
bug. Could it be that the init script forgets to check the return code? fsck
says 4 is OR'd into the return code whenever there is a problem it can't fix in
noninteractive mode.

[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter

2010-03-19 Thread Smeuuh
Let's calm down, people. This is a bug report, not a place to vent your
disappointment with ubuntu.

There are two things at issue here, variable delays, and lack of merging
for notifications sent by notify-send.

It is clear that the ubuntu people in general do not wish to address the
second issue, on the grounds that that would cause disparity between
applications. I feel that forcing the whole ecosystem to use a fixed set
of parameters by simply ignoring their requests is a bad idea: this
should be patched for each application individually. However, this
position is understandable, although a finer grain would be nice,
instead of simply having normal and urgent.

The second one is clearly a bug (or rather, a design flaw that should be
addressed as a bug). This has been reported a few times (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/434913 and the bugs
cited by elijah). I believe this would be very simple to fix: as far as I
remember, libnotify only merges if three things match :
- the notification ID, which is _not_ kept by notify-send between invocations
- title of notification
- sender app

The point is that the first one prevents replacing with notify-send. I
think the last two criteria should be more than enough to filter false
positive, so that the criteria for notification ID could be removed with
no side effects, allowing notifications to be merged with notify-send.

In the meantime, I use gnome-osd, which is quite nice, less buggy, and
with more features (albeit less pretty), than libnotify.

Precisions : evince saves settings per pdf, and has default as
unmaximized and with a side panel. The previous behaviour was much more
sensible. I tried to delete ~/.gnome2/evince/ev-metadata.xml, which
contains the per-pdf information, but it had no effect, even when
reloading gnome and killing evinced (why do they need a daemon for,
anyway ?)

[Bug 434273] Re: Resume function is broken

2009-09-22 Thread Smeuuh
As I said, Compiling from upstream totem 2.28 gives the expected result. That
is, this : http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/GNOME/sources/totem/2.28/
I also tried using the .orig.tar.gz provided with the ubuntu package, it also
worked. I could not work out how to apply the ubuntu patches to try and see if
one caused the bug, though. Am I the only one with this problem ?

[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter

2009-09-22 Thread Smeuuh
Smeuuh, if we offered a configuration screen for something as boring
as notification bubbles, we would have done something terribly wrong
in the design. It's possible we have something terribly wrong, but if
we have, it's a bug that should be fixed, not configured around.

Configuration is not always a sign of having done something
wrong. It's just a question of personal preferences, same as mouse
sensibility, or the delay between repeats on keypresses. All these and
even more have been configurable since time immemorial, and I don't
think anyone has ever complained about it.

I agree there is a thin line between what should be configurable by
default and what shouldn't, and maybe this is one of those case where
an additional option in preferences would be overkill. That may be so,
but in that case please provide a way to change it : an option in
gconf, honouring the timeout argument, a configuration file
somewhere ... just provide the option.

The problem here is that there are several classes of notifications,
which haven't the same importance to the user. The urgency setting is
a step in recognising this fact, but the granularity is just too
high. When my IM client receives a new messages, even with stacking, I
feel 5 seconds is just too much. I read fast and like just to glance
at the message to see what has been said, and go back to my IM client
if it needs further inspection. Some people with different use cases
might want longer notifications. The current state of notify-osd
doesn't allow me to set the timeout to a value appropriate for me
(which I could with libnotify, and which is an explicit part of the
protocol), and I feel that is a bug.

I haven't looked at the code, but I'd guess honouring timeouts would be
pretty simple to do. I'm clearly missing something here, because I don't
understand at all the point of not doing so, other than the wiki page
says so.

[Bug 434913] [NEW] merging should be available with notify-send

2009-09-22 Thread Smeuuh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

(from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/430362)
Is there a way to use merging with notify-send ? As far as I can see, its use,
with something like :

anto...@lambda:~$ notify-send -i notification-message-im hey john -h
string:x-canonical-append:allowed
anto...@lambda:~$ notify-send -i notification-message-im hey bob -h
string:x-canonical-append:allowed

is prevented because notify-send doesn't cumulate IDs (as seen from the
debug output of notify-osd). Is there a particular reason for this
requirement ? I'm trying to build notifications for emacs using notify-
osd, and this prevents me from using the append feature. Why not just
append if the hint is provided and the title and app match ? This should
be enough to filter all false positive.

[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter

2009-09-15 Thread Smeuuh
I understand that the intent is to create a set of default that all
applications would use. However, there are a few parameters which users
should be able to modify. The notification expiration time is one of
them, and so is the fact that fullscreen apps should or should not be
interrupted by non-critical notifications. Some of us are perfectly
content with watching movies and being interrupted by a friend asking
something on IM.

If it isn't possible to set it in the API, why not provide a
configuration menu ? Either by a osd-notification-properties app, or by
simple text/gconf/xml/whatever configuration. It could also contain a
setting for the position of notifications, or font size ... I understand
that certain core decisions (for example, not stashing notifications)
are not subject to modifications, but for simple parameters ...

Some users (including me) would like to use osd-notify, but are
prevented by rigid design decision. I'm not saying it's a bad thing to
have strong defaults, just that users should be able to modify them when
needed. I'm not trying to start a flamewar here.

The problem is that gnome-session, for some reason, doesn't close the socket

the time at which the bug was introduced in intrepid, it should be easy for

2008-11-05 Thread Smeuuh
Hi,
happened to me again. My .xsession-errors gets flooded with messages saying it
doesn't connect to ICE. Here's a sane strace emacs :

connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/.ICE-unix/6212}, 21) = 0
fcntl64(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
write(4, \0\1\0\0\0\0\0\0, 8) = 8
read(4, \0\1\0\267\0\0\0\0, 8)= 8

When buggy, it becomes :
connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/.ICE-unix/6241}, 21) = 0
fcntl64(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
write(4, \0\1\0\0\0\0\0\0, 8) = 8
read(4, unfinished ...

The bug seems to differ of the one other commenters have in that /tmp
/.ICE-unix/6241 does exist.

Better mark this as fixed unless someone has the same problem under intrepid.

[Bug 216006] [NEW] Shutting my system down drops to a X error menu

2008-04-11 Thread Smeuuh
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I'm using ubuntu hardy as a server (which is a bad idea, I know that :)). I
want to be able to remotely shut my computer down. But when I do sudo shutdown
now over SSH, it drops to a X menu offering me the choice between three choices
: resume normal boot, drop to a root console, or something about X. It kills my
ssh connection, so I can't do anything remotely. I found a workaround with sudo
init 0, but that's ugly, and seems to interfere with my wake on lan for some
reason.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 190934] Re: [hardy] keyboard modifiers randomly forgotten

2008-03-07 Thread Smeuuh
I confirm major breakup, with similar symptoms
I'm using last hardy (upgrade from gutsy), and i sometimes experience the alt
key non functionning, with repeating keys non working. This is quite strange,
because emacs reports correctly the input (ie M-x works as expected). Control
and shift work as expected though.
I also found that the keyboard layout customization options such as make caps
lock an additional control do not work when rebooting, unless you go back to
the menu. Even if i go back to the menu, when the customization works, caps
lock still makes the DEL switch on and off, while in gutsy it did not. Using
xmodmap works ok though.
I can reproduce the bug by holding down the key to invoke Yakuake.
