[Bug 1188425] Re: Audio breaks up and pulseaudio eventually crashes with Alsa a52 (ac3) plugin (Ubuntu 13.04)

2014-05-11 Thread SpmP
Artur Agostinho Araújo :
Did you ever find a solution?
In 14.04, with the fragment sizes you suggest this is better, but still crashes
periodically. This plugin is amazing! Especially if I could control how many
channels were upsampled on a per application basis (ie 2.0 -> 2.1, not 2.0 ->
5.1)
Banshee in particular crashes PA with a52.

[Bug 1192022] [NEW] glslideshow fails to display images, partial fix found

2013-06-17 Thread SpmP
Public bug reported:

glsideshow (/usr/lib/xscreensaver/glslideshow) by default fails to display
images other than the 'null' image.
This behaviour is experienced in other image getting screensavers such as
carousel etc.

glslideshow is parsing .xscreensaver correctly as is evident if bogus lines are
ammended etc.
imageDirectory: /blah is set correctly

Adding -images to line 77 of glslideshow.c st that the line is:
"*desktopGrabber: xscreensaver-getimage -no-desktop -images %s\n" \
solves the problem for windowed display:
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/glslideshow -duration 8 -pan 8 -fade 4 -zoom 100
-letterbox

With -root as:
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/glslideshow -duration 8 -pan 8 -fade 4 -zoom 100
-letterbox -root
no image is displayed in with unity/copiz manager

With xwinwrap glslideshow fails with:
xwinwrap -ni -argb -fs -o 1 -s -st -sp -b -nf --
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/glslideshow -duration 8 -pan 8 -fade 4 -zoom 100
-letterbox -window-id WID -root
with error:
X error in xscreensaver-getimage:
X Error of farsion from xscreensaveriled request: BadMatch (invalid parameter
attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 72 (X_PutImage)
Serial number of failed request: 30
Current serial number in output stream: 35

Tried with latest vanilla from www.jwz.org, same issues 0 i.e upstream.

Obvouly my motivation is slideshow on the desktop background.
ubuntu 12.10 raring.

all the same keystrokes 8) Or is this as close as it gets?

[Bug 886967] Re: projectm crash

2012-01-02 Thread SpmP
revision 12 from sid is still crashing with:
Qt has caught an exception thrown from an event handler. Throwing
exceptions from an event handler is not supported in Qt. You must
reimplement QApplication::notify() and catch all exceptions there.

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
Aborted

Sometimes it takes the whole system with it. Using an external pulse server if
this makes any difference.
I tried to build from svn but couldnt get around glew detection... dammit!

[Bug 661380] Re: Edge Flip stopped working and doesn't work when enabled after upgrade to maverick

2011-04-22 Thread SpmP
Sam,
Edge flip whilst dragging windows works fine.
It is edge flip with mouse scroll on the edges which does not work.
I can make mouse flip work on the desktop (not the edge) with a +

Edge flip (scroll wheel) has not worked for some time.

I am still, after all these years, confused as to which is the correct
plugin to use. Viewport switcher, or rotate cube...

Cheers

[Bug 270794] Re: 2.6.24-19-generic libata soft resetting link every 30 secs when under heavy load

2010-06-22 Thread SpmP
Well I thought it was fixed w/ 2.6.34, but only better.
Changing dirty_writeback_centisecs etc. as per qwerty w/ 2.6.34 seems to have
stoped the ata resets etc. w/via epia-en
Disk wasn't locking up, just reduced to super slow mode. ~15mb/s.

so, thanks qwerty.

[Bug 505095] Re: X don't start in Lucid

2010-01-09 Thread SpmP
Wow, it was pretty cool watching the files hit the repository!
Unfortunatley this didnt solve the problem for me, but created some new
errors, heres the tail end of the X log:

[0.099440] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor
[0.099479] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor
[0.099501] (WW) xf86OpenConsole: VT_GETSTATE failed: Bad file descriptor
 ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

That is with the latest [blah]ubuntu2 ati and radeon driver.
I have been having the failsafe graphics mode problem on and off for a while
now, was sometimes fixed by restarting, but not after upgrading this morning.

Amazing turnaround on this tho!

I am booting with the following kernel parameters to solve noe desktop
backgrounds etc:
radeon.agpmode=-1 radeon.modeset=1

Hope this helps. Any other ideas?

[Bug 444139] Re: (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (Radeon 7500)

2009-10-31 Thread SpmP
After upgrade from Jaunty, had balck desktop background (with icons),
Enabling KMS resolved this, but now i have slight text corruption (sometimes).
Compiz performance (with and without KMS) is crap. Very high fps for glxgears
(5k, small) but in reality glx is kerky and tears.
Thanks for the link to the fix!

[Bug 411362] Re: bluetooth device not working with any 2.6.31 kernel in karmic

2009-08-15 Thread SpmP
Thanks for keeping onto this one.
 I can confirm that
rfkill unblock blutooth
allows the device to be 'brought up'
2.6.31-1-rt and 2.6.31-5 both seem to work without needing this.
Strangely tho, the device is down by default and must be 'turned on' by
gnome-bluetooth (or hciconfig hci0 up)
So half solved 8)

[Bug 411362] [NEW] bluetooth device not working with any 2.6.31 kernel in karmic

2009-08-10 Thread SpmP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

maybee already reported...
Bluetooth device does not work with 2.6.31 family of kernels in karmic (9.10).
1) Karmic, amd64
2) linux-generic 2.6.31.4.15
bluez 4.45-0ubuntu4

3) I expect the bluetooth device to be detected etc.
4) Bluetooth device is not available, manual module loading etc. does not help.

I have tried both ubuntu version of bluez, and vanilla from svn, no
difference.

Bluetooth works fine with bluez from karmic (and svn) with linux-
image-2.6.28-14 from jaunty.

[Bug 405201] Re: X on Xubuntu daily install cd (Karmic) Fails on S3 Savage

2009-08-01 Thread SpmP
The latest daily build isnt available atm, but I tried upgrading to the latest
xorg etc. and the problem persists, suggesting that the problem is more with
xorg than the live cd (i.e the live cd contains the xorg, which is the problem)
Reverted back to xorg from jaunty and everything is OK.

Apport-collect will be from Karmic Xubuntu, with Jaunty xorg.

I downgraded the following packages:
libx11-data
x11-xserver-utils
xserver-common
xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg-{
core
input-evdev
input synaptics
video-fbdev
video-s3
video-s3virge
video-savage
video-v4l
video-vesa
}

I havnt been able to get an X log from 1.6.1
Hope this helps.

[Bug 405201] [NEW] X on Xubuntu daily install cd (Karmic) Fails on S3 Savage

2009-07-27 Thread SpmP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Installation from Xubuntu daily-live cd was not possible as X would not
initialise the screen.
Installation possible only via alternative cd, but X still not loading on
reboot (after install)
Tried:
i) Different kernel, including from Jaunty
ii) Different xorg settings, vesa, nodri, removing all extra modules etc.
iii) Downgrading xserver components to jaunty versions --> worked

Problem solved by changing xorg version, and downgrading manually from synaptic.

Hardware is Vaio PCG-XR9Z/K, PIII w intel chipset and S3 Savage video
card

dmesg reported mttr problems, but so does working X
Xorg.0.log of interest (maybee)
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev
(II) Loading sub module "fbdevhw"
(II) LoadModule: "fbdevhw"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/linux//libfbdevhw.so
(II) Module fbdevhw: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.6.0, module version = 0.0.2
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 5.0
(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory
...
...
 ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

Good luck!

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 386224] Re: [karmic] unable to pair with MS bluetooth Laser Mouse 8000

2009-07-26 Thread SpmP
I had the same issue, Its resolved by choosing a 2.6.28 kernel from the grub
menu. The rpoblem was with 2.6.31, havnt tried 2.6.30.
Same result with bluez 4.45 from ubuntu, and 4.46 from bluez git. (havnt
patched kernel or anything silly like that yet, maybee try that if not much
movement here)
