[Bug 1948599] [NEW] Nautilus icon missing from taskbar (21.10; Xorg)
Public bug reported: Upgraded to 21.10. I am using Ubuntu Tweaks to set a bottom of screen taskbar. Nautilus (Files) was pinned to the taskbar. I discovered that Waland was incompatible with my graphics card, so switched to Xorg. I think at this point the Files icon disappeared (and just possibly some others I have not noticed). [Bug 1937115] Re: Unable to boot/install Impish daily in UEFI boot mode
I am subscribing as my boot issue seems similar; I wonder if this is affecting some other Hairy Hippo users? My boot-info detail: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/ZYWPgTJJPG/ My boot-repair info: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/YcSFTnxjVZ/ The laptop is an HPP455 G2 with a 1TB SSD partitioned to include a separate Data partition. Secure boot is disabled. I have installed a dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21.04 system and (with some difficulty) had it working well. Expected behaviour: On switch on or restart the system boots into the Ubuntu dual boot screen, allowing user to select Ubuntu or Windows; if no selection within ten seconds boots into Ubuntu. Observed behaviour: On switch on or restart the system fails to boot with the error messages as below; looping through the initial post screen and into the error message. Selecting "Esc" at the post screen allows selection of efi boot options; the third of which is "ubuntu" - this takes me to the dual boot screen after which boot proceeds into the selected (or default) OS as expected. On first installing the SDD I installed Windows then Ubuntu. Since the system did not boot properly I used 'Boot-Repair' Advanced options and followed the directions to "change the default boot entry of your Windows bootloader ... boot into Windows then type the following in an admin command prompt: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi . The system then booted normally into the standard Ubuntu dual boot screen. It has been ok for the past three months or so. Today I did a restart and I was unable to boot as normal, however could enter the EFI boot options screen and select Ubuntu, which then went to the dual boot screen from where boot is normal into Ubuntu or Windows. I again used Boot-Repair Advanced options and again followed the directions to "change the default boot entry of your Windows bootloader ... boot into Windows then type the following in an admin command prompt: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi . This did not sort the problem out. Full details of error message: Failed to open \efi\ubuntu\S - Invalid Parameter Failed to load image \efi\ubuntu\S: - Invalid Parameter start_image() returned Invalid Parameter I would be grateful for any advice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937115 Title: Unable to boot/install Impish daily in UEFI boot mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cd-boot-images-amd64/+bug/1937115/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1785527] [NEW] Black and white menu associate with launcher tile right click does not disappear when it should.
Public bug reported: In order to close Thunderbird I right clicked on the Thunderbird icon/launcher tile in the side bar. As expected a white text on black menu appeared. I closed Thunderbird (can't remember how) but the menu remained on the screen. It was not 'active' (ie clicking on the options did not produce any effect). Ex0ected behaviour was for the menu to close as soon as the program closed, or if, eg, another menu was opened. It eventually closed by itself (as I started to report the bug) See screenshot of the unresponsive 'zombie' menu. Seeing as the log file refers to a failure to open '/home/simon/.local/share/recently-used.xbel' I looked that file up. Using 'sudo nautilus' to open a file manager I found it and opened it: it reads as below the line of asterisks. I looked at its permissions and it states: Owner - Root - Read and write Group - Root - none Others - none Allow executing file as program - not checked. Security context - unknown I then opened a normal "files" window and opened the file with gedit - which struck me as odd because it has covered with locked icons - and it now does not have locked icons, and reports its permissions as: Owner - Me - Read and write Group - Simon - none Others - none Allow executing file as program - not checked. [Bug 1577710] [NEW] USB Mouse has to be unplugged and replugged in to work
Public bug reported: General info: What is the full manufacturer and model of your mouse - Not known: generic USB unbranded mouse How is your mouse connected to your PC: serial, PS/2, USB, USB wireless, etc. - USB What mechanism does your mouse use: roller ball, optical, trackball, etc. - Optical How many physical buttons and scrollwheels does you mouse have? - 2 buttons; one wheel (which also functions as centre button) Two problems: When plugged in the mouse is detected and starts working. After shut down and restart, it does not work. If then unplugged and plugged in it works perfectly again. A second issue is that it works only if plugged into the USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop. It does not work in the USB 2.0 ports on the right side of the machine. When running 15.10 it worked in any USB port and did not need to be unplugged and re-plugged to work. Machine is HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth. [Bug 1577701] [NEW] Cannot use external monitor
Public bug reported: I am running an HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth with Ubuntu 16.04; upgraded from 15.10. Under 15.10 I connected and used an acer vga monitor. After the upgrade to 16.10 the second monitor has no display. Steps to reproduce: Disconnect monitor; restart computer. Enter "Screen Display". confirm only one (internal) monitor is shown. Connect monitor. Click "detect displays". Monitor is detected and shown in grey (screenshot 1) Select acer monitor; click "on" at slider. (screenshot 2) Click "Apply". No display on acer monitor. Click "Keep this configuration". Still no display on acer monitor, however mouse is not held at edge of laptop screen - ie the computer thinks the external display is in use. Also windows can be pushed entirely into the extended desktop (but are then, obviously, not visible). The little indicator light on the monitor switch remains in the amber "no signal" condition. Now click "power > shut down > shut down" As computer shuts down the purple screen with line of dots lighting up appears on BOTH the built in screen AND the external screen. On restart, the computer still thinks the external screen exists and is active, but there is no display. [Bug 1309358] [NEW] upgrade fail 13.10 - 14.04
Public bug reported: I updated 13.10 fully and then rebooted. I then launched the software updater. On launching updater I am offered upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04. The release tool starts successfully. I receive a warning message: Third party sources disabled. Some third party entries in your sources.list were disabled. You can re-enable them after the upgrade with the 'software-properties' tool or your package manager. I clicked the Close button. The release tool then began fetching files. Before this is complete the upgrader stops with the following failure message: An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu. I am running the released version of 13.10. I am not upgrading to a pre-release version of 14.04 - at least not knowingly. I don't think I have any unofficial software packages (but how would I find out?). I consider this a bug as the upgrader does not provide any way forward (such as identifying how to tell what the problem is; or even offering to solve it). Regards Springnuts. Resume After some period of time the computer will completely freeze and no combination of keystrokes will recover it. The fan is running as fast as it can and high heat is noticed. The CPU seems maxed out but no way to really tell. If you have an SSH session open from another computer to the Ubuntu 10.10 computer that is locked there is no longer any interaction so you cannot tail the logs. The only way to recover is to hold down the power button and turn off the computer. This did not happen on Ubuntu 10.04. Often after this happens and I power off the computer, turning it back on results in another freeze minutes after logging in. I can turn it back off and turn it on and usually work for hours without the freeze until the next time I suspend/resume. I've tried plugging and unplugging the power cord repeatedly but this does not seem to cause the freeze. This is a painful bug for obvious reasons for those of us who use Ubuntu as our primary business OS. [Bug 684164] Re: Complete system freeze usually after suspend/resume
Happens for me - full reproducible as follows. Start Ubuntu 10.10 on battery, or on mains then unplug mains. Attempt to log on to wireless network. Machine freezes as the wlan card connects. I am using the temporary work around from http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10327529 : sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off before trying to connect to wlan. That thread too is pointing to problems with pm-utils 1.4. [Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.
Hi Alexander Thanks for suggestions. Sadly neither workaround works for me. Probably as I am using an Orange linebox - using the method described here http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=19235sid=2975a93d5718ea39cf1a04afd0de8d98 as the livebox is odd. My Hardy Heron is still waiting for the livebox key (it does not realise it is already connected) - which may be why it thinks it must be offline. Confused? I am!
