[Bug 554267] Re: files seemingly installed to wrong location

2013-05-08 Thread Stéphane Glondu
You are not using the right commands:

steph@korell:~$ ocaml
Objective Caml version 3.12.1

# #use topfind;;
- : unit = ()
Findlib has been successfully loaded. Additional directives:
#require package;; to load a package
#list;; to list the available packages
  #camlp4o;;to load camlp4 (standard syntax)
  #camlp4r;;to load camlp4 (revised syntax)
#predicates p,q,...;; to set these predicates
Topfind.reset();; to force that packages will be reloaded
  #thread;; to enable threads

- : unit = ()
# #require sqlite3;;
/usr/lib/ocaml/sqlite3: added to search path
/usr/lib/ocaml/sqlite3/sqlite3.cma: loaded
# open Sqlite3;;
# Sqlite3.bind;;
- : Sqlite3.stmt - int - Sqlite3.Data.t - Sqlite3.Rc.t = fun

Bear in mind, I *am* an OCaml neophyte, and in my limited experience the
OCaml community insists on doing certain things in seemingly bizarre ways.
So perhaps *I'm* doing something wrong by expecting the library to be
readily available after installation. I'd hope not.

You cannot seriously expect to install an interpreter and some libraries
for a new language, run it and type random commands without reading any
documentation...

[Bug 1045719] [NEW] Display port monitor detected, but no signal sent

2012-09-04 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Public bug reported:

I have two monitors: one connected via VGA, and one connected via
DisplayPort. When the X server starts, there is a signal on both
monitors. But when the monitor on DisplayPort is switched off, then back
on, the monitor no longer detects signal. However, the monitor is
detected: dm and GNOME react to the new monitor and it appears in xrandr
output.

The signal comes back after restarting the X server. This makes me think
it is a software problem, or at least it could be solved in software.

I've tried various historic versions of the gcc-4.6 package in a clean
precise chroot.

The first faulty version appears to be 4.6.0-7ubuntu1. The previous
version, 4.6.0-6ubuntu3, generates correct code.

Moreover, the last version (4.6.3-1ubuntu5) with all Linaro patches out
generates correct code.

[Bug 1029454] [NEW] cselim tree optimizer generates incorrect code

2012-07-26 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Public bug reported:

I think gcc (4.6.3-1ubuntu5, amd64) generates incorrect code with the
attached test case.

The expected output is m = 8241071186. However, when compiled with
-O3, it outputs m = 1. Looking further, it seems that the following
lines:

   *m = 1UL;
  ularith_div_2ul_ul_ul_r (m, 0UL, 1UL, s);

are being swapped in the assembly output.

The output is correct when compiled with -O2 or with -O3 -fno-tree-
cselim.

On Debian (version 4.6.3-1), the output is always correct. I have
reports that the output is correct with upstream gcc compiled on Ubuntu,
so this behaviour looks Ubuntu-specific.

Can you try adding a .type function name, %function directive for
each function in the startup .s file?

I've patched ocamlopt so that all symbol functions have this directive,
and the empty program works!

I'm afraid this means that everything has to be recompiled with the
patched ocamlopt... this is confirmed by a test on lwt.

What about upgrading to ocaml 3.12.1 at the same time in Ubuntu? The
packaging is ready for Debian (it is currently waiting for ACK from the
release team), and also means recompiling everything. Most packages
recompile with no source changes with ocaml 3.12.1 [1]. The permanent
OCaml transition tracker [2] will be helpful, too.

[Bug 810402] [NEW] all native ocaml programs segfault on armel

2011-07-14 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Public bug reported:

Starting from version 2.21.52.20110606-1ubuntu1 (in oneiric), all
programs produced by ocamlopt segfault on Ubuntu/armel. The problem
disappears after downgrading binutils to 2.21.51.20110421-6ubuntu1.

Steps to reproduce: echo empty.ml ocamlopt empty.ml ./a.out

Using the -S option of ocamlopt might be useful, to have a look at the
generated assembly code, but I don't know what to look for... I hope
someone more familiar with binutils code can help.

I found that while investigating the recent build failures of ocaml
stuff or armel. Everything works find in the armel port of Debian.

is this seen on the armhf port too?
ocamlopt has not been ported to armhf and is not enabled there, so I cannot

[Bug 810402] Re: all native ocaml programs segfault on armel

2011-07-14 Thread Stéphane Glondu
how is the camlstartup .s file generated, or how can it be saved?

-dstartup option to ocamlopt. Adding -ccopt -Wl,-v shows the ld call:

/usr/bin/ld --build-id --no-add-needed --as-needed --eh-frame-hdr
-dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.3 -X --hash-style=gnu -m
armelf_linux_eabi -z relro -o a.out /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/gcc/arm-
linux-gnueabi/4.5.3/../../../crt1.o /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/gcc/arm-
linux-gnueabi/4.5.3/../../../crti.o /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/gcc/arm-
linux-gnueabi/4.5.3/crtbegin.o -L/usr/lib/ocaml -L/usr/lib/arm-linux-
gnueabi/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabi/4.5.3 -L/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/gcc
/arm-linux-gnueabi/4.5.3/../../.. -L/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi -v
/tmp/camlstartup86089c.o /usr/lib/ocaml/std_exit.o empty.o
/usr/lib/ocaml/stdlib.a /usr/lib/ocaml/libasmrun.a -lm -ldl -lgcc --as-
needed -lgcc_s --no-as-needed -lc -lgcc --as-needed -lgcc_s --no-as-
needed /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabi/4.5.3/crtend.o
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabi/4.5.3/../../../crtn.o

trying to figure out if it's a linker or an assembler issue, could
you try to build with new as and old ld, and old as and new ld?

 - new as, old ld: the resulting binary doesn't segfault
 - old as, new ld: the resulting binary segfaults

why is gcc-4.5 used? The default in oneiric is 4.6.

I started with a natty chroot, which I upgraded to oneiric. Upgrading
gcc requires upgrading binutils, which I was avoiding.

However, now that I've identified the issue, I can tell you that the bug
occurs in a freshly debootstrapped oneiric chroot, and disappears after
downgrading binutils to 2.21.51.20110421-6ubuntu1.

Does it mean that recompiling all ocaml libraries with GCC 4.6 is

Currently, lwt is part of a transition (findlib, postgresql-ocaml and
their rdeps); I'll wait for them to be in testing first (in at least 8
days). I might even wait for the transition to OCaml 3.12.1, depending
on how other transitions are going... you can follow our transitions at [1].

2011-07-05 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Well... it wasn't the case when I made the patch and asked for
sponsorship. But meanwhile, this transition came up. And in Debian, lwt
builds with no source changes with the new findlib, so a binNMU was
sufficient.

I see that findlib is up-to-date (1.2.7+debian-1) in oneiric, but not
postgresql-ocaml (1.16.0-1). It would indeed be better to have
postgresql-ocaml up-to-date first before updating lwt (nurpawiki depends
on lwt and postgresql-ocaml, and updating any of those means recompiling
nurpawiki).

[Bug 770786] Re: ocsigen version 1.3.3-1 failed to build on amd64 with GCC-4.6/oneiric

2011-06-15 Thread Stéphane Glondu
The current failure is due to an out-of-date lwt [1]. But the latest lwt
fails to build in Ubuntu because of the linker changes.

I've pushed a fix for lwt in the Debian git repository [2], and
submitted it to my PPA [3]. It would be nice if someone with proper
privileges could upload it to official oneiric repositories, then
rebuild the reverse-dependencies as indicated on [4]

[Bug 612296] Re: failed to install

2010-09-28 Thread Stéphane Glondu
This happens with me with ubuntu 10.04 32bit as well as 64 bit also

 sudo aptitude install approx

In a clean lucid chroot (I am running Debian testing), this works for
me.

Same problem, approx fails to install (and remove) on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
 Desktop amd64, approx 4.1-1build1.

I have no problem purging approx either. Maybe there is some bad
interaction with another installed package...

I was able to resolve this by installing the following missing
dependancies, which are not checked by the package install:

 libocamlnet-ocaml
 libpcre-ocaml
 libsha-ocaml
 libsyslog-ocaml
 ocaml-base-nox

What makes you think these are dependencies? They shouldn't be on amd64
and i386.

[Bug 257524] Re: ocamlnet library compiled without SHM support

2010-04-09 Thread Stéphane Glondu
It seems that the package has been built in an environment lacking
/dev/shm, and therefore the test program failed, hence the value of
Netsys.have_posix_shm.

AFAICT, this is an issue in Ubuntu building infrastructure, not in the
package itself. I could make the package building fail if /dev/shm is
not mounted... but it would then always fail in Ubuntu build farms... is
that what we want?

2010-03-07 Thread Stéphane Glondu
I hereby request a freeze exception for matita. It is a new (quite
different) upstream, so there is a pretty big diff. However, this new
release supports gtksourceview2 (the previous one uses the obsolete
gtksourceview1 [1], which has been removed from Debian [2]). It has been
successfully been built on all architectures in Debian, and migrated to
testing [3].

I believe the bug fixed by the Ubuntu-specific patch has been fixed in
Debian as well [4].

2010-03-07 Thread Stéphane Glondu
I hereby request a freeze exception for why. Although there are many
changes, in upstream and the Debian packaging, it fixes many bugs,
especially when used with the frama-c package that has been recently
synchronized [1]. It has been built successfully on all architectures in
Debian, and migrated to testing [2].

[Bug 530305] Re: [OCaml 3.11.2 transition][round 5/6] Please sync packages involved in OCaml transition from Debian (sid) to lucid (universe)

2010-03-07 Thread Stéphane Glondu
I've just added ocaml-batteries (0.20090405+beta1-5 - 1.1.0-1).

The version currently in lucid was a beta release, and the upstream
project changed quite a bit since then. That's why this version has been
removed from squeeze [1]. There has been a new upstream release since
them, that has been uploaded to sid yesterday. Currently, it has been
built on all architectures that exist in Ubuntu [2].

I think that the package should be either synced or removed from Lucid
before the beta1 freeze.

[Bug 533766] [NEW] [OCaml 3.11.2 transition] Please rebuild camlpdf 0.4-4 (multiverse)

2010-03-07 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Reminder: there is an OCaml transitition going on in lucid. Its progress
can be monitored at:

http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ocaml_transition_monitor.html

http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ports_transition_monitor.html

Please rebuild the following package:

  camlpdf (0.4-4)

It doesn't appear on the monitoring pages above because it is in
multiverse (I guess).

Thanks in advance,

[Bug 529408] Re: [OCaml 3.11.2 transition][round 5/6] Please rebuild packages involved in OCaml transition (universe)

2010-03-05 Thread Stéphane Glondu
I've just added ssreflect (1.2+dfsg-3). I didn't put it the first time
because it depends on coq, which fails to build on armel. I don't have
time to investigate this failure right now, and I'd rather see ssreflect
recompiled so that it is installable on most architectures in Lucid.

Can this sync be done soon? There remains (at least) why to be sync'ed

[Bug 527633] Re: [OCaml 3.11.2 transition][round 4/6] Please sync packages involved in OCaml transition from Debian (sid) to lucid (universe)

2010-03-05 Thread Stéphane Glondu
I've just added ocamlgraph. A newer version is needed for frama-c. The
current version in Lucid is 1.2+debian-1build2 whereas it is
1.3+debian-1 in Debian (sorry for not noticing that earlier). FWIW, it
has been compiled successfully on all architectures in Debian, and
migrated to testing.

I hereby request a freeze exception for this.

There was a bug in the generation of dependencies of gmetadom [1], which
has been fixed in 0.2.6-5. Sync has been requested [2], but not yet
performed. The bug made gmetadom not appear in the monitoring page.
lablgtkmathview needs to be rebuilt after gmetadom.

Then, I hereby request a freeze exception for jocaml.

This new upstream version is merely a port to the new version of ocaml.
The current version doesn't work with OCaml 3.11.2. It has been built
successfully on all architectures on Debian (sid) [1].

[Bug 522363] Re: [OCaml 3.11.2 transition][round 2/6] Please rebuild packages involved in OCaml transition

2010-02-22 Thread Stéphane Glondu
This is taking much more time than I was expecting. This round started
one week ago, and there are rebuilds still not scheduled. I know Ubuntu
people are busy with preparing the next release, but there are currently
102 packages related to this transition that are not installable, so I
guess having this transition completed should also have some priority. I
already volunteered to give instructions to perform this transition
smoothly... I don't know what more I can do, not being an Ubuntu
developer.

FYI, the progress of this transition can be seen on:

http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ocaml_transition_monitor.html
http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ports_transition_monitor.html

I am waiting for at least findlib (which has a lot of reverse
dependencies) to be recompiled before proceeding with next rounds.

[Bug 522358] Re: [OCaml 3.11.2 transition][round 2/6] Please synchronize packages involved in OCaml transition from Debian sid to lucid

2010-02-22 Thread Stéphane Glondu
This is taking much more time than I was expecting. I know Ubuntu people
are busy with preparing the next release, but there are currently 102
packages related to this transition that are not installable, so I guess
having this transition completed should also have some priority. I
already volunteered to give instructions to perform this transition
smoothly... I don't know what more I can do, not being an Ubuntu
developer.

FYI, the progress of this transition can be seen on:

http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ocaml_transition_monitor.html

Re: [Bug 519199] Sync ocaml 3.11.2-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

2010-02-11 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Michael Bienia a écrit :
As FeatureFreeze is already next week will this transition be finished till
then? Or will some FF exceptions be needed?

The transition won't probably be finished by next week in Debian, but
OCaml 3.11.2 will most likely be part of Squeeze. This transition should
be uneventful and can be handled quite quickly if buildds/uploaders keep
up. You can see the progress in Debian at:

  http://debian.glondu.net/monitor/ocaml/ocaml_transition_monitor.html

If that's the case talking to the release managers would probably be
helpful.

Please do, and put me in CC.

[Bug 519199] [NEW] Sync ocaml 3.11.2-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

2010-02-09 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ocaml

Please sync ocaml 3.11.2-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The Ubuntu patch has been merged upstream.

The transition to the new upstream version of OCaml (3.11.2) has
started in Debian. I recommend doing it at the same time in Ubuntu,
instead of automatically importing when everything is in testing
(which will most likely cause headaches because of the mix of packages
sourcefully uploaded and binNMU'ed).

Progress of this transition can be monitored at the following
addresses:

http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ocaml_transition_monitor.html
http://bentobako.org/ubuntu-ocaml-status/transition_monitor/ports_transition_monitor.html

I (or David, maybe) will submit more bug reports as the transition goes.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 3.11.1-4ubuntu1:

ocaml (3.11.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Stephane Glondu ]
  * New upstream release
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4 (no changes)

  [ Mehdi Dogguy ]
  * camlp4-extra:

- Don't install a manpage for camlp4boot (which is not installed).
  * debian/rules:

  * debian/control:
- Make camlp4-extra depend on ocaml-base-nox

  [ Ralf Treinen ]
