[Bug 2059727] [NEW] python3-distutils used removed method ConfigParser.readfp
Public bug reported: Bug report was not created from the system where I discovered the bug. I discovered the bug in a Noble rescue session. Noble switched Python system interpreter to Python 3.12 (https://docs.python.org/3/whatsnew/3.12.html#configparser). python3-distupgrade (https://packages.ubuntu.com/noble/python3-distupgrade) uses ConfigParser.readfp in /usr/lib/python3/dist- packages/DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeController.py . This will cause "Repair packages" in Noble rescue system to fail. Suggested fix is to use ConfigParser.read_file as suggested in Python 3.12 release notes. [Bug 1949291] [NEW] LibreOffice has started displaying a donation nag
Public bug reported: I just opened up a spreadsheet (technically a CSV file, but who's counting), to discover LibreOffice displaying an eye-catching blue "Your donations support our worldwide community." banner just below the toolbars and about a toolbar and a half tall. This irritating nag is apparently supposed to display every 90 to 180 days with no in-application means to disable it permanently, and there's apparently also a "Help us make LibreOffice even better!" banner that can appear too. According to this blog post... https://www.remembertheusers.com/2019/11/0580-libreoffice-nag- notices.html ...it is not responsive to configuration overrides within the user profile and the only apparent solution that doesn't require patching the source and rebuilding is to create a file containing the following markup in `$BASEDIR/share/registry` (`/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/registry` as installed by the Ubuntu package): http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema; xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry;> http://openoffice.org/2004/installation; oor:name="Setup" oor:package="org.openoffice"> 0 0 Regardless of how it's achieved, I think it's tasteless, irritating, and probably doesn't give a very good image to any office customers Ubuntu may have downstream for random employees to be receiving nag banners like that in IT-installed software. Please consider patching it out or otherwise ensuring it never triggers in distro-provided builds of LibreOffice. [Bug 1906120] Re: NetworkManager: error -111 disaptching events on DHCPv4 lease renewal
I think this issue https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/merge_requests/486 might provide a fix. See also https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1829178 where they mention the fix has been backported to 1.22.12. Any chance the Focal package could be upgraded to include that patch level? [Bug 1946920] Re: Default Applications > Web Browser is non-functional
I haven't managed to fix the GUI, but I did manage to fix the rest of the dysfunction by manually editing `mimeapps.list` and running `kbuildsycoca5`. My best guess is that, when the value in lines like `x-scheme- handler/http=firefox.desktop;` doesn't exist, KDE synthesizes a fallback chain, and kde-open5 and xdg-desktop-portal-kde disagreed on the ordering of the synthesized fallback chain. The GUI still resets to like in the screenshot though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946920 Title: Default Applications > Web Browser is non-functional To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-desktop/+bug/1946920/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1946920] [NEW] Default Applications > Web Browser is non-functional
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS Release:20.04 plasma-desktop: Installed: 4:5.18.5-0ubuntu0.1 Candidate: 4:5.18.5-0ubuntu0.1 Version table: *** 4:5.18.5-0ubuntu0.1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4:5.18.4.1-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages No matter what I set Default Applications > Web Browser to in System Settings, it reverts to the screenshotted state upon being reopened and has no apparent effect. This has led to a dysfunctional desktop where I have to leave my desired browser open and either take advantage of "Copy URL" or an application's built-in support for overriding the system-default HTTP opener because: 1. `xdg-open` delegates to kde-open5, which doesn't understand that I only want Konqueror as a file manager and I'm still rooting around, trying to figure out which `.desktop` file is telling the desktop that Konqueror is a valid HTTP or HTML handler so I can delete it and `chattr +i` so the desktop only sees Konqueror as a more featureful alternative to Dolphin. (That's also why, if Launchpad records the submitting browser, it'll show Konqueror. I couldn't figure out how to forcibly override the browser `ubuntu-bug` uses.) 2. `xdg-desktop-portal-kde` decided that the Flatpak version of `xdg- open` should open URLs from `org.mozilla.Thunderbird` in `com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium`, even though I don't think I've *ever* asked for anything but `org.mozilla.firefox` through it. (I've blanked out the `MimeType` line in both my `/home/ssokolow/.local/share/applications/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium.desktop` and `/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium.desktop` but I can't remember how to trigger a regeneration of the relevant cache to see if it worked without restarting my desktop sesson.) 3. The File Associations KCM is set to prefer Firefox for HTML, and gVim is higher in the priority order than Ungoogled Chromium, and Konqueror was below either before I removed it from the list of associations for HTML entirely, but Default Applications doesn't appear to be forcing "in an application based on the contents of the URL" (which I wouldn't want anyway), which makes that ineffective. 4. I've manually edited the `~/.local/share/mime*.*` files to ensure the PCManFM-made selections of Firefox are complete for both the HTML filetypes and the `x-scheme-handler` lines, but KDE clearly still hasn't switched to the XDG-standardized approach to specifying file associations, let alone scheme handlers. 5. Because the browsers I actually use are all Flatpak'd for extra sandboxing, the Debian alternatives system can't see Firefox or Ungoogled Chromium, but it chooses a leftover copy of `xlinks2` for `x-www-browser` over Konqueror anyway. (I *could* remove xlinks2, but it currently serves as confirmation that nothing's actually *used* `x-www- browser` since I stopped using Skype years ago.) 6. Because of how KDE loves to move so much functionality into daemons like kded (ostensibly so that, if part of your desktop crashes, it's impossible to restore correct function without restarting the whole session), `strace kde-open5` didn't turn up anything useful. Given what an imposing maze the KDE codebase is and how this is probably already fixed on KDE upstream (we'll see when 22.04 LTS comes out), it's getting to the point where I'm considering patching the problem by writing an LD_PRELOAD hack to formalize and generalize the the bash+kdialog script I set as a `.zip` handler so I get a "Did you want MComix instead? Yes/No" prompt when Firefox's Downloads pane tries to open a file with a `.cbz` extension using Ark. (i.e. Just hook the `exec*` family of libc functions and have a `.toml` file that defines which subprocess invocations to rewrite unless a special environment variable is set. It can't be as crashy as that old "give GTK apps KDE Open/Save dialogs" KGtk `LD_PRELOAD` hack was and I can just look at the `gtk3-nocsd` package for the recommended way to install a system-wide LD_PRELOAD hack.) I've attached this to the `plasma-desktop` package, because that's what dpkg says kcm_componentchooser is provided by. [Bug 1943998] [NEW] `unar` and `lsar -t` sometimes segfault on certain files
Public bug reported: While trying to unpack some .ARC files from a 1980s "shareware of the month"-style 5.25" floppy disk, I got `lsar -t` to segfault and then `unar`. I was unable to trigger it in a brand new build made from a fresh download of the upstream TheUnarchiverSource.zip archive, which would suggest that simply upgrading the package may fix it. However, identifying WHAT was fixed may be difficult because I was also unable to trigger it when running under gdb to attempt a backtrace, and, of the four .ARC files on the floppy disk, which ones work and which ones segfault vary from run to run and `unar` may work while `lsar -t` segfaults or vice-versa. I suspect it's caused by reading from uninitialized memory. [Bug 1927841] Re: Video Driver bug
This was very helpful. On ubuntuforums, it was suggested that I check the "Optimus" setting under the "Video" menu in the BIOS. That solved half the problem. Then following your suggestion and changing the Multimedia engine in SMPlayer to /usr/bin/mpv solved the other half. Nvidia currently works and CPU usage is now around 10%, which I am pretty amazed about. [Bug 1883253] Re: no Multi-Arch support
Yes, I'm asking for 32 bit builds, since that is required to inject gamemode to a 32 bit game. Here are some Bug reports: https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/254 https://github.com/lutris/lutris/issues/2917 https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/216 https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/252 But it's not enough to enable the current build files on 32 bit since that will fail. The problematic files are debian/libgamemode0.install and debian/libgamemodeauto0.install There are two easy solutions for that problem: 1) Import the Debian package, it has full Multi-Arch support by now. This requires to put libinih1 into main though. 2) Rebase debian/patch/revert_libinih_depends.patch against the code on Salsa (https://salsa.debian.org/games-team/gamemode) ** Bug watch added: github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues #254 https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/254 ** Bug watch added: github.com/lutris/lutris/issues #2917 https://github.com/lutris/lutris/issues/2917 ** Bug watch added: github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues #216 https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/216 ** Bug watch added: github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues #252 https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/252 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883253 Title: no Multi-Arch support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gamemode/+bug/1883253/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1787867] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS bluetooth left discoverable
I can confirm this bug still exists on 20.04 after testing my desktop and laptop. Using hciconfig to turn off visibility works and does survive a reboot. After using hciconfig and opening the Bluetooth settings panel, visibility turns on. When closing the panel, visibility turns off. So hciconfig seems to fix the bug for now. Still, it would be better if this never happened in the first place since it does seem to be a security issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1787867 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS bluetooth left discoverable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-bluetooth/+bug/1787867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875740] Re: gamemode throttles (AMD?) CPUs on exit (powersave governor)
The PR was merged in upstream, I backported the fix to gamemode 1.5.1-3, which landed in Debian on Monday. @seb128 you may want to drop or rebase the changes in the Ubuntu package. [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values
I have 2 monitors and one HDTV being used as a monitor. Everything was fine on Pop OS 19. I upgraded to Pop OS 20 (which I assumed bumped me to the latest Ubuntu) and now I'm having fractional scaling issues. Left monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode Middle HDTV = 4k HDTV in landscape mode Right monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode I can see fractional scaling in my options, but if I choose 125, 150, or 175%, it will only do 200%. And, it won't let me change it on one display. It only applies universally. Until this is fixed, my main monitor (HDTV) is frustrating to use with font so small. Also, I have to adjust the scaling in my Nvidia settings anytime I make any change because it makes the scaling of the middle monitor way too big. So, then the desktop actually "scrolls" until I manually fix the scaling. I have a GeForce 1080. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873403 Title: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1873403/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1847830] [NEW] HWE kernel 5.0 breaks Joystick 2nd button
Public bug reported: I've got a generic HID device Joystick with 2 buttons. On the latest 18.04 4.15 kernel both buttons were detected separately and work correctly. After upgrading to HWE 5.0.0-31 the second button disappeared. When I press it, the first button gets activated instead. I've used Wireshark to make sure the Joystick continues to send the correct Interface descriptor, and it reports the 2 buttons separately in its payload, according to how the buttons are pressed. With trial and error, we managed to find that we wouldn't get any crash as long as only 1 HOG service was present. Here's the interesting part. The two HOG services are made as follows: - standard keyboard over gatt: protocole mode / report map / 1 INPUT report / boot INPUT + OUTPUT / HID information / HID Control point - raw HID over gatt : report map / 1 INPUT report / 1 OUTPUT report / HID information / HID control point Looking at the write_ccc in the call stacks we wondered if the callbacks subscribing to notifications for the INPUT reports were causing this issue. We therefore changed the raw HID over gatt (and its report map) to remove the INPUT report and change it into 1 OUTPUT report (leading to 2 OUTPUT reports): no crash. We therefore hypothesize that the segfault occurs when subscribing to notification on a second HOG service... ** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1837467 Title: segfault when CCD are present in two different HOG services To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1837467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
