[Bug 2059727] [NEW] python3-distutils used removed method ConfigParser.readfp

2024-03-28 Thread Stephan Seitz
Public bug reported:

Bug report was not created from the system where I discovered the bug. I
discovered the bug in a Noble rescue session.

Noble switched Python system interpreter to Python 3.12
(https://docs.python.org/3/whatsnew/3.12.html#configparser).
python3-distupgrade
(https://packages.ubuntu.com/noble/python3-distupgrade) uses
ConfigParser.readfp in /usr/lib/python3/dist-
packages/DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeController.py . This will cause "Repair
packages" in Noble rescue system to fail.

Suggested fix is to use ConfigParser.read_file as suggested in Python
3.12 release notes.

while resolving the package conflicts)

Same here with a T460p. I noticed that the fans did not turn off, so the

[Bug 283316] Re: CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject

2022-03-04 Thread Stephan Sokolow
Upgrading from Kubuntu 16.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS introduced this bug into
my system, so I've gotten in the habit of pressing the physical Open
button just as the tray starts to close again, after which it doesn't
try a second time.

My hypothesis is that it's trying to read the drive after it opens,
which triggers the close as a side-effect.

The problem still exists in Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS.
Workaround of changing owner of cache as described will still restore

As upstream still uses "bin", I suggest to change the owner of the cache

[Bug 1949291] [NEW] LibreOffice has started displaying a donation nag

2021-10-31 Thread Stephan Sokolow
Public bug reported:

I just opened up a spreadsheet (technically a CSV file, but who's
counting), to discover LibreOffice displaying an eye-catching blue "Your
donations support our worldwide community." banner just below the
toolbars and about a toolbar and a half tall.

This irritating nag is apparently supposed to display every 90 to 180
days with no in-application means to disable it permanently, and there's
apparently also a "Help us make LibreOffice even better!" banner that
can appear too.

According to this blog post...

https://www.remembertheusers.com/2019/11/0580-libreoffice-nag-
notices.html

...it is not responsive to configuration overrides within the user
profile and the only apparent solution that doesn't require patching the
source and rebuilding is to create a file containing the following
markup in `$BASEDIR/share/registry`
(`/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/registry` as installed by the Ubuntu
package):

http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema;
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xmlns:oor="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry;>

  http://openoffice.org/2004/installation; oor:name="Setup"
oor:package="org.openoffice">

0

0

Regardless of how it's achieved, I think it's tasteless, irritating, and
probably doesn't give a very good image to any office customers Ubuntu
may have downstream for random employees to be receiving nag banners
like that in IT-installed software.

Please consider patching it out or otherwise ensuring it never triggers
in distro-provided builds of LibreOffice.

[Bug 1906120] Re: NetworkManager: error -111 disaptching events on DHCPv4 lease renewal

2021-10-21 Thread Stephan Kramer
I think this issue
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/merge_requests/486
might provide a fix. See also
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1829178 where they mention
the fix has been backported to 1.22.12. Any chance the Focal package
could be upgraded to include that patch level? FWIW we've had the same
issue as described on several machines (same network) when upgrading to
Focal; installing the Groovy NM package (1.26.2) rebuilt from source for
Focal seems to have fixed it.

[Bug 1946920] Re: Default Applications > Web Browser is non-functional

2021-10-13 Thread Stephan Sokolow
I haven't managed to fix the GUI, but I did manage to fix the rest of
the dysfunction by manually editing `mimeapps.list` and running
`kbuildsycoca5`.

My best guess is that, when the value in lines like `x-scheme-
handler/http=firefox.desktop;` doesn't exist, KDE synthesizes a fallback
chain, and kde-open5 and xdg-desktop-portal-kde disagreed on the
ordering of the synthesized fallback chain.

The GUI still resets to like in the screenshot though.

[Bug 1946920] [NEW] Default Applications > Web Browser is non-functional

2021-10-13 Thread Stephan Sokolow
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

plasma-desktop:
  Installed: 4:5.18.5-0ubuntu0.1
  Candidate: 4:5.18.5-0ubuntu0.1

No matter what I set Default Applications > Web Browser to in System
Settings, it reverts to the screenshotted state upon being reopened and
has no apparent effect.

This has led to a dysfunctional desktop where I have to leave my desired
browser open and either take advantage of "Copy URL" or an application's
built-in support for overriding the system-default HTTP opener because:

1. `xdg-open` delegates to kde-open5, which doesn't understand that I
only want Konqueror as a file manager and I'm still rooting around,
trying to figure out which `.desktop` file is telling the desktop that
Konqueror is a valid HTTP or HTML handler so I can delete it and `chattr
+i` so the desktop only sees Konqueror as a more featureful alternative
to Dolphin.

(That's also why, if Launchpad records the submitting browser, it'll
show Konqueror. I couldn't figure out how to forcibly override the
browser `ubuntu-bug` uses.)

2. `xdg-desktop-portal-kde` decided that the Flatpak version of `xdg-
open` should open URLs from `org.mozilla.Thunderbird` in
`com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium`, even though I don't think I've
*ever* asked for anything but `org.mozilla.firefox` through it. (I've
blanked out the `MimeType` line in both my
`/home/ssokolow/.local/share/applications/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium.desktop`
and
`/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium.desktop`
but I can't remember how to trigger a regeneration of the relevant cache
to see if it worked without restarting my desktop sesson.)

3. The File Associations KCM is set to prefer Firefox for HTML, and gVim
is higher in the priority order than Ungoogled Chromium, and Konqueror
was below either before I removed it from the list of associations for
HTML entirely, but Default Applications doesn't appear to be forcing "in
an application based on the contents of the URL" (which I wouldn't want
anyway), which makes that ineffective.

4. I've manually edited the `~/.local/share/mime*.*` files to ensure the
PCManFM-made selections of Firefox are complete for both the HTML
filetypes and the `x-scheme-handler` lines, but KDE clearly still hasn't
switched to the XDG-standardized approach to specifying file
associations, let alone scheme handlers.

5. Because the browsers I actually use are all Flatpak'd for extra
sandboxing, the Debian alternatives system can't see Firefox or
Ungoogled Chromium, but it chooses a leftover copy of `xlinks2` for
`x-www-browser` over Konqueror anyway. (I *could* remove xlinks2, but it
currently serves as confirmation that nothing's actually *used* `x-www-
browser` since I stopped using Skype years ago.)

6. Because of how KDE loves to move so much functionality into daemons
like kded (ostensibly so that, if part of your desktop crashes, it's
impossible to restore correct function without restarting the whole
session), `strace kde-open5` didn't turn up anything useful.

Given what an imposing maze the KDE codebase is and how this is probably
already fixed on KDE upstream (we'll see when 22.04 LTS comes out), it's
getting to the point where I'm considering patching the problem by
writing an LD_PRELOAD hack to formalize and generalize the the
bash+kdialog script I set as a `.zip` handler so I get a "Did you want
MComix instead? Yes/No" prompt when Firefox's Downloads pane tries to
open a file with a `.cbz` extension using Ark. (i.e. Just hook the
`exec*` family of libc functions and have a `.toml` file that defines
which subprocess invocations to rewrite unless a special environment
variable is set. It can't be as crashy as that old "give GTK apps KDE
Open/Save dialogs" KGtk `LD_PRELOAD` hack was and I can just look at the
`gtk3-nocsd` package for the recommended way to install a system-wide
LD_PRELOAD hack.)

I've attached this to the `plasma-desktop` package, because that's what
dpkg says kcm_componentchooser is provided by.

[Bug 1943998] [NEW] `unar` and `lsar -t` sometimes segfault on certain files

2021-09-17 Thread Stephan Sokolow
Public bug reported:

While trying to unpack some .ARC files from a 1980s "shareware of the
month"-style 5.25" floppy disk, I got `lsar -t` to segfault and then
`unar`.

I was unable to trigger it in a brand new build made from a fresh
download of the upstream TheUnarchiverSource.zip archive, which would
suggest that simply upgrading the package may fix it.

However, identifying WHAT was fixed may be difficult because I was also
unable to trigger it when running under gdb to attempt a backtrace, and,
of the four .ARC files on the floppy disk, which ones work and which
ones segfault vary from run to run and `unar` may work while `lsar -t`
segfaults or vice-versa.

I suspect it's caused by reading from uninitialized memory.

The original archival tool reports success with no corruption for all of
them when run under DOSBox and since the DOS extractor is freeware and
the archives' contents are all either freeware or shareware (and the
entire floppy was just 360K), I'll attach them to the bug report in case
anyone wants to run their own testing.

[Bug 1927841] Re: Video Driver bug

2021-05-10 Thread Stephan Foley
This was very helpful. On ubuntuforums, it was suggested that I check
the "Optimus" setting under the "Video" menu in the BIOS. That solved
half the problem. Then following your suggestion and changing the
Multimedia engine in SMPlayer to /usr/bin/mpv solved the other half.

Nvidia currently works and CPU usage is now around 10%, which I am
pretty amazed about. Thanks!

[Bug 1926981] [NEW] Package not cleanly installable

2021-05-03 Thread Jan Stephan
Public bug reported:

I cannot build the XRT driver through DKMS during the apt installation
of xrt-xocl-dkms (see apt.log). You will notice that this log references
another log file in /var/lib/dkms/xrt/2.7.0. However, no such directory
exists on my system.

If I try to force a manual DKMS build through "sudo dkms build -m xrt -v
2.8.0" I end up with a different build error. See the attached dkms.log
which is taken from /var/lib/dkms/xrt/2.8.0/build/make.log

This is still a problem on Ubuntu 20.04. Since it uses a completely

cause, but the annoying user experience is exactly the same.

In case the server responds with a 550 Thunderbird correctly shows an
error message to the user and goes back to the edit window, so you can
resend the message.

If it would do the same in the case of a 4XX all would be good.

Should be an easy fix.

[Bug 1907493] Re: wifi network keeps disconnecting

2020-12-27 Thread Stephan Boltzmann
What I tried to fix the problem was to set the value of wifi.powersave=2 in
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
This didn't help.
It seems that as long as there is an active download, the connection remains
stable.

[Bug 1853277] Re: Lenovo ThinkBook 14-IML Touchpad not showing up in /proc/bus/input/devices

2020-07-22 Thread Stephan Leliveld
The new kernel 5.7.10 has the ACPI ID for this touchpad added to the
elan-i2c-ids.h. See kernel.org:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/tree/include/linux/input
/elan-i2c-ids.h?h=v5.7.10

Just adding the device ID did not fix this problem for me but perhaps
more changes were made for this kernel. I will give it a try.

[Bug 1888385] [NEW] FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick v2 does not work with inux version 4.4.0-186-generic

2020-07-21 Thread stephan
Public bug reported:

Dear all,

the USB WLAN Stick (FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick v2) worked flawlessly up to the
Linux Kernel version 4.4.0-185-generic, so I assume some problem has
been introduced moving from Linux version 4.4.0-185-generic to the Linux
version 4.4.0-186-generic.

Operating system and release can be found below.

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
Release:16.04

Attached are the files for the currently working version
(4.4.0-185-generic): dmesg, version signature, lspci and uname output).

I provide too the dmesg output of the failing kernel version
(4.4.0-185-generic). I am happy to provide more details. Apparently the
module is not loaded anymore.

Kind regards,
Stephan

[Bug 1887272] [NEW] Missing dependency python3-gtts

2020-07-12 Thread Stephan Schmid
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1875164 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875164

Public bug reported:

Observed on version 2.7.1+ds-1 (amd64) (20.04LTS)

Without having the package python3-gtts installed, the mnemosyne launch fails
with a missing dependency error:
[...]
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'gtts'
[...]

Installing the package python3-gtts explicitly fixes this.

AFAICS, the ubuntu package mnemosyne simply does not have python3-gtts
marked as dependency despite the mnemosyne using the python module gtts.

[Bug 1883253] Re: no Multi-Arch support

2020-06-26 Thread Stephan Lachnit
> What's the issue exactly you are refering to? The lack of Multi-Arch
informations?

No I was talking about the things you fixed in 1.5.1-0ubuntu6, thanks
btw! But Multi-Arch information is required as well ofc, but that's also
already fixed. Should be go to now from what I see.

> I did an update to G with some of the Debian changes, we should go
back in sync later but best to work on a minimal diff to be able to do a
stable update with the changes.

I think it's fine for now, but once
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinih/+bug/1883890 is fixed
I think it makes sense to sync with Debian again. If there are any
issues with the package (or possible improvements), feel free to open an
issue / PR on the Salsa repo, I will try to comply to reduce duplicate
efforts.

[Bug 1883253] Re: no Multi-Arch support

2020-06-16 Thread Stephan Lachnit
Yes, I'm asking for 32 bit builds, since that is required to inject
gamemode to a 32 bit game.

Here are some Bug reports:
https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/254
https://github.com/lutris/lutris/issues/2917
https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/216
https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode/issues/252

But it's not enough to enable the current build files on 32 bit since that will
fail.
The problematic files are debian/libgamemode0.install and
debian/libgamemodeauto0.install

There are two easy solutions for that problem:
1) Import the Debian package, it has full Multi-Arch support by now. This
requires to put libinih1 into main though.
2) Rebase debian/patch/revert_libinih_depends.patch against the code on Salsa
(https://salsa.debian.org/games-team/gamemode)

[Bug 1787867] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS bluetooth left discoverable

2020-06-09 Thread Stephan T
I can confirm this bug still exists on 20.04 after testing my desktop
and laptop.

Using hciconfig to turn off visibility works and does survive a reboot.

After using hciconfig and opening the Bluetooth settings panel,
visibility turns on. When closing the panel, visibility turns off. So
hciconfig seems to fix the bug for now. Still, it would be better if
this never happened in the first place since it does seem to be a
security issue.

2020-05-13 Thread Stephan Lachnit
The PR was merged in upstream, I backported the fix to gamemode 1.5.1-3, which
landed in Debian on Monday.
@seb128 you may want to drop or rebase the changes in the Ubuntu package. If
everything goes right 1.5.1-4 should come around soon as well, so you might as
well just wait for that.

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-02 Thread Stephan Pearce
I have 2 monitors and one HDTV being used as a monitor. Everything was
fine on Pop OS 19. I upgraded to Pop OS 20 (which I assumed bumped me to
the latest Ubuntu) and now I'm having fractional scaling issues.

Left monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode
Middle HDTV = 4k HDTV in landscape mode
Right monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode

I can see fractional scaling in my options, but if I choose 125, 150, or
175%, it will only do 200%. And, it won't let me change it on one
display. It only applies universally.

Until this is fixed, my main monitor (HDTV) is frustrating to use with
font so small.

Also, I have to adjust the scaling in my Nvidia settings anytime I make
any change because it makes the scaling of the middle monitor way too
big. So, then the desktop actually "scrolls" until I manually fix the
scaling. I have a GeForce 1080.

[Bug 1869285] Re: Piper won't install

Debian Maintainer for Piper here. I think I know the cause of this
problem, and it is not a problem of the package itself.

This strongly indicates that you used the PPA before, because Piper is
only available in Debian since November. Please uninstall Piper, remove
the PPA (which isn't maintained anymore btw), and install it again.

[Bug 539162] Re: xsane produces "mess" when saving pdf

2020-03-10 Thread Jan Stephan
This bug is still present on Ubuntu 19.10. I recently encountered it. It
seems to be related to 16 bit output files, switching to 8 bit results
in correctly scanned documents.

[Bug 1847830] Re: HWE kernel 5.0 breaks Joystick 2nd button

2019-10-12 Thread Stephan Eckweiler
After more research this is not a bug. Apparently the old kernel was
more tolerant towards the Usage Maximum of the HID descriptor of the
joystick being misconfigured to 0x29 0x01. Changing it to 0x29 0x02
fixed the issue for kernel 5.0.

Please delete or close this issue.

[Bug 1847830] [NEW] HWE kernel 5.0 breaks Joystick 2nd button

2019-10-11 Thread Stephan Eckweiler
Public bug reported:

I've got a generic HID device Joystick with 2 buttons. On the latest
18.04 4.15 kernel both buttons were detected separately and work
correctly. After upgrading to HWE 5.0.0-31 the second button
disappeared. When I press it, the first button gets activated instead.

I've used Wireshark to make sure the Joystick continues to send the
correct Interface descriptor, and it reports the 2 buttons separately in
its payload, according to how the buttons are pressed.

Here is the Interface descriptor the Joystick is submitting:

  0x05, 0x01,// USAGE_PAGE (Generic Desktop)
  0x09, 0x04,// USAGE (Joystick)
  0xa1, 0x01,// COLLECTION (Application)
  0x09, 0x01,// USAGE (Pointer)
  0xA1, 0x00,// COLLECTION (Physical)
  0x09, 0x30,// USAGE (X)
  0x09, 0x31,// USAGE (Y)
  0x15, 0x81,// LOGICAL_MINIMUM (-127)
  0x25, 0x7F,// LOGICAL_MAXIMUM (127)
  0x75, 0x08,// REPORT_SIZE (8)
  0x95, 0x02,// REPORT_COUNT (2)
  0x81, 0x02,// INPUT (Data,Var,Abs)
  0x05, 0x09,// USAGE_PAGE (Button)
  0x19, 0x01,// USAGE_MINIMUM
  0x29, 0x01,// USAGE_MAXIMUM
  0x15, 0x00,// LOGICAL_MINIMUM (0)
  0x25, 0x01,// LOGICAL_MAXIMUM (1)
  0x95, 0x02,// REPORT_COUNT (2)
  0x75, 0x01,// REPORT_SIZE (1)
  0x81, 0x02,// INPUT (Data,Var,Abs)
  0x95, 0x01,// REPORT_COUNT (1)
  0x75, 0x06,// REPORT_SIZE (6)
  0x81, 0x03,// INPUT (Const,Var,Abs)
  0xC0, // END_COLLECTION
  0xC0, // END COLLECTION

Here is the resulting report structure of 3 bytes, describing the
current state of the Joystick:

 X7 X6 X5 X4 X3 X2 X1 X0 8 bit signed relative coordinate x
 Y7 Y6 Y5 Y4 Y3 Y2 Y1 Y0 8 bit signed relative coordinate y
  . . . . . . B1 B0 two bits for Fire buttons

I can confirm from Wireshark that the last byte will be 01 for button1
pressed, 02 for button2 pressed, and 03 for both buttons pressed.
Nevertheless only one button is detected. I've tested that both with
jstest-gtk, and with freedroid. I've tested on a 2nd machine, on which I
did nothing but an upgrade from 4.15 to 5.0 HWE, on 4.15 it worked, on
5.0 it ceased working.

Please advise if you need further info.

[Bug 1832998] Re: Pure-FTPd Breaks with OpenSSL v1.1.1

2019-09-05 Thread Stephan C
@Florin (flopppy):
Note that older versions of FileZilla client can connect to pure-ftpd 1.0.46
without any TLS issue.

This is because FileZilla introduced support for TLS 1.3 in their client
version 3.40.0 by linking against GnuTLS 3.6.6. TLS 1.3 is not handled
properly in pure-ftpd 1.0.46.

https://filezilla-project.org/versions.php

So using versions of FileZilla prior to 3.40.0 (e.g. 3.28, 3.25.2) may
be a workaround for the clients, although not a very nice one

@Jean-Philippe (jean-philippe-f):

The solution from @Datapro Services (it-iizj) also works for the
standard package without mysql. You just need to get pure-ftpd instead
of pure-ftpd-mysql.

```
wget
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/p/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd-common_1.0.47-3_all.deb
wget
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/p/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd_1.0.47-3_amd64.deb
dpkg -i pure-ftpd-common_1.0.47-3_all.deb pure-ftpd_1.0.47-3_amd64.deb
```
Thanks @Datapro Services (it-iizj) !

[Bug 1837467] [NEW] segfault when CCD are present in two different HOG services

2019-07-22 Thread Mathieu Stephan
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

Test setup: ubuntu 19.04, bluez 5.50, kernel bug id 204201

We are currently developing a device that contains two HID services.
That device, as it is right now, is properly functioning on Windows & Android.
However, when pairing the device on Linux running bluez 5.50 we do get
segfaults (see attached files).
Our bluetooth device has 4 services : 1 battery service, 2 HID Over Gatt
services and 1 device information service.
With trial and error, we managed to find that we wouldn't get any crash as long
as only 1 HOG service was present.

Here's the interesting part. The two HOG services are made as follows:
- standard keyboard over gatt: protocole mode / report map / 1 INPUT report /
boot INPUT + OUTPUT / HID information / HID Control point
- raw HID over gatt : report map / 1 INPUT report / 1 OUTPUT report / HID
information / HID control point

Looking at the write_ccc in the call stacks we wondered if the callbacks
subscribing to notifications for the INPUT reports were causing this
issue.

We therefore changed the raw HID over gatt (and its report map) to
remove the INPUT report and change it into 1 OUTPUT report (leading to 2
OUTPUT reports): no crash.

We therefore hypothesize that the segfault occurs when subscribing to
notification on a second HOG service...

** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1731318] Re: NVIDIA systems will not suspend with lid close and no external monitors

2019-06-11 Thread Stephan Fabel
Can you confirm this patch made it into 19.04? I am running Disco and
still seem to be suffering from it.

[Bug 1818881] Re: ath10k_pci crashing

2019-04-02 Thread Stephan Fabel
I've reset the machine with the latest OEM image to retest. I am now
experiencing system freezes at random times. I've generated a new
sosreport and am attaching it to this case.

Thank you @Santiago Londoño your solution worked. Just to add I also had
to disable secure boot else it was not booting up.

Re: [Bug 1818881] Re: ath10k_pci crashing

2019-04-01 Thread Stephan Fabel
Hi

upgraded the system as instructed, FWIW here's the fwupdmgr output just to
confirm:

$ fwupdmgr update
No upgrades for XPS 13 9380 System Firmware, current is 0.1.2.1:
0.1.2.1=same, 0.1.1.1=older, 0.1.0.0=older

I had my xHCI controller die on me today as well:

[95279.564648] xhci_hcd :39:00.0: xHCI host not responding to stop
endpoint command.
[95279.564656] xhci_hcd :39:00.0: xHCI host controller not responding,
assume dead
[95279.564679] xhci_hcd :39:00.0: HC died; cleaning up

I will now reboot and see whether this problem still occurs.

Thanks,
Stephan
