Public bug reported: The upgrade failed with a hard system freeze (even the mouse didn't move anymore) while configuring package libjson-c2. BTW, it appears that your logs not only don't capture the bits that we need, but are actually corrupted. What filesystem are you using? file system is ext4 The other thing I notice in the logs is that the corruption always happens immediately after the message about 'Processing triggers for hicolor-icon-theme ...'. So it's possible the upstart package itself is not what's causing this problem. Can you reproduce the hang by running 'sudo dpkg --configure upstart' from the commandline? That went through; it was the pending downgrade from my previous tries. After that the upgrade to the new version 1.8-0ubuntu1.2 went successfully as well. [Bug 745996] Re: All unity windows are invisible (panel, launcher, dash)
I am affected as well by this bug. My system is an upgrade from 11.04 with the fglrx driver (though I don't think the gfx driver matters for this problem). A second account is running unity without problems. So far I have removed all config directories (.compiz* .gconf* .metacity .gnome2*; .drirc does not exist) that I can think of which may affect the observed behaviour, but so far no luck. Anything you want me to try? Does unity store its data somewhere else I didn't think of? The main difference between the two accounts I can think of is that the working one never ran unity while the non-working one ran unity 11.04 once. Though this may as well be a red herring for this bug. Activating the compiz/unity ppa also didn't help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745996 Title: All unity windows are invisible (panel, launcher, dash) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/745996/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
Hi everybody, what would also be interesting to check is, whether the new Direct2d [1] option of the current fglrx driver (i.e. 10.2) resolves the delay problem. The forum at phoronix indicates that this might be the case though this experimental option seems to be quite unstable for many cards (especially in conjunction with compiz), so it may be better to wait for 10.3. [Bug 330824] still freezes with 2.6.28-14
Hallo, I'm sorry to say that my system still hard locks with the new 2.6.28-14 kernel in jaunty when I rsync my home partion (ext3) with my backup partition (ext4). It does not matter wether I use 'rsync -av --delete ...' or only 'rync -av ...'. The latter one just takes a little longer for the freeze to happen. This is on a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+. The weird thing is that a have access to another system with an Intel Quad-Core CPU that is fully ext4 but runs without a hitch. I think that suggests that we are really running into a timing/race problem here. Re: [Bug 351186] Re: [ubuntu 9.04 beta]slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
Hallo Bryce, thanks for the PPA; just for your interest (and the benefit of all others): The debs from the PPA work fine on one of my two 64-bit machines, and also seem to resolve many of the glitches and performance problems I had with video feedback. On a second machine, with a HD 4350 and ASUS M3N78-EM mainboard, the debs from the PPA fail to run: the xserver crashes with no screens found with any driver I tried (fglrx, radeon, vesa). The stock xserver works, apart from that annoying resizing performance problem. This machine has 8GB, so maybe this is part of the problem as I have read somwhere that people had problems with machines 3GB of RAM, but I'm out of ideas to try in front of the screen, and would rather not like to try go over to hardware swapping... Hi abys, I don't know: I found a thread where people were claiming that reducing memory to =3GB resolved their problem (no screens found). So my 8GB are way above that size. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore, and the whole thread was a bit chaotic and not easily to follow, so I might have drawn the wrong conclusions. [Bug 282835] Re: Network Manager fails to start
I think I can shed some light on the subject. I have a machine that was updated yesterday from hardy to intrepid (i386). After the update I was seeing the same symptoms as described above (no nm-applet icon in the notification area, though Networkmanager and nm-applet were running, nothing in /var/crash). I ignored the problem for a while though had a look into my /var/log/syslog for other reasons and noted a message about the driver for my wlan stick (rt73usb) not being able to find the firmware. After installing the linux-firmware package and rebooting the nm-applet appeared as usual. Apparently there is a missing dependency that leads to the linux- firmware package getting dropped during the update?
