Sorry, cannot confirm on this end.
My f-spot was broken under hardy but an upgrade to intrepid solved the
issue for me. gnupg-agent is currently not installed (I cannot say if it

does not change the fact that f-spot opens and closes without any

[Bug 112329] Re: [apport] aap crashed with TypeError in msg_msg()

2008-04-12 Thread Stephan Klein
The new versions were not pulled in because there is no newer upstream
package in Debian unstable. I suggest to anyone who wants this fixed to
contact Cory Dodt, as he's the upstream Maintainer for aap.

See: http://qa.debian.org/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

It's too late for Hardy though, but may be worth the effort for Intrepid
(aka Hardy+1).

[Bug 198884] Re: Wireshark 0.99.7 halted in Hardy

2008-04-04 Thread Stephan Klein
After some digging with people from #ubuntu-bugs (Thanks to james_w and
crimsun!) we've narrowed the issue down a bit:
First off, this only happens with gksu; kdesu is not affected.
The problem seems to be dumpcap, the utility which actually captures the
packages. A child process is created once the 'Interfaces' window is opened. To
close the window again, wireshark expects dumpcap to terminate.
But it does not quit, most likely due to problems with gaining capabilities
(cf. dumpcap.c ~ line 501+). dumpcap may request something that gksu is not
willing to give.

Related upstream bugs might be:
http://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2288 (fixed)
http://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1740 (still open)

The strange thing is, that there are multiple reports from people who
are using wireshark through gksu without any problems.

[Bug 198884] Re: Wireshark 0.99.7 halted in Hardy

2008-04-04 Thread Stephan Klein
Using gksu, capture via Capture-Options does work. The hangup does only
happen if you try to close the 'Interfaces' window. If you manually kill
the dumpcap child process, wireshark will resume and start the capture.

OK, I think I narrowed it down. The openoffice.org-math package does install
the following .desktop file:
/usr/share/applications/ooo-math.desktop
Which has NoDisplay=true set. That mean that it is hidden by default. It should
be possible to enable it using the Menu Editor within the Office category (as
OpenOffice.org Formula.
I verfied it on my system just now. The entry is there. It's just hidden and
renamed to Formula instead of Math.

+ Packages are available from Debian sid
(http://packages.debian.org/sid/wireshark).
Is there a chance of getting this release (which includes several important
security fixes [but also new features!]) into Hardy?
I'd file a FFe if someone tells me if it's got a chance.

2008-04-02 Thread Stephan Klein
Public bug reported:

[Bug 131523] Re: evince chooses wrong font substitutes

2008-03-31 Thread Stephan Klein
I am not so sure whether this is the same or a related issue:
The PDF document attached is displayed by libpoppler based viewers (I tested
evince and epdfview) with all bold and cursive text.
Note that the documents suggests the fonts Courier and Courier-Oblique
(both are no embedded).

$ fc-match Courier
n022003l.pfb: Nimbus Mono L Regular

Nimbus Mono L Regular would be a perfect substitute, since I don't have a font
named 'Courier'.
Although the viewer uses a font that looks like Nimbus (and most likely is),
but renders all text in bold and oblique.

Compare this to the rendering of xpdf (which does handle this
correctly).

Since the correct font is suggested by fontconfig, I am almost sure that
this must be an issue with libpoppler handling something the wrong way.

I marked it as a duplicate because the newer report already has received

 Exactly ;)

Don't call me smartass, but I find it interesting that a bug reported

2008-03-01 Thread Stephan Klein
Fallback to alsa will always be possible. VLC first tries the plugin set up as
default and should that one fail tries the other installed plugins.
Setting pulseaudio as default could be possible with a configure option, I'll
have to look into that. There are no global configuration files for VLC (see:
