[Bug 1326093] Re: Missing pkg-config file, so FSharp.Core assembly does not appear in Monodevelop

2014-06-04 Thread Stephen A. Goss

I installed the F# language binding from the Add-in Manager. I created a

[Bug 1326093] [NEW] Missing pkg-config file, so FSharp.Core assembly does not appear in Monodevelop

2014-06-03 Thread Stephen A. Goss
Public bug reported:

If you install this package (fsharp) and monodevelop and install the
Monodevelop F# add-in and create a project, it fails to build because it
cannot find the FSharp.Core assembly. According to Monodevelop FAQ
http://monodevelop.com/FAQ#Troubleshooting :

"Bacause MonoDevelop does not look for assemblies in the GAC. On Mac and
Linux, MonoDevelop uses pkg-config to locate installed packages and get
the list of assemblies that each package provides. A package specifies
this list of assemblies in a .pc file which has to be installed in the
standard pkg-config directory."

Other CIL packages in Ubuntu have these .pc files. Eg. the libgtk2.0
-cil-dev package installs the following files:

/usr/lib/pkgconfig/gtk-sharp-2.0.pc
/usr/lib/pkgconfig/gtk-dotnet-2.0.pc

The assemblies for these libraries appear in Monodevelop as you might
expect. It would be helpful to have these files in the fsharp package so
that F# would be usable in Monodevelop.

** Affects: fsharp (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I asked a coworker who happens to be running Ubuntu with Unity desktop:
"Open up System Monitor and tell me how much memory 'compiz' is using."
His reply: "700 MB". I'm guessing a lot more folks are affected by this
than even know, since most don't monitor memory usage. They probably
just experience degraded system performance over time.

[Bug 1075614] Re: Unity leaks memory even when desktop is idle, screen locked in 12.10

2012-11-28 Thread Stephen A. Goss
The idle memory leak (or bloat) seems to not occur if I close Firefox
and Chromium when I leave the computer on over the weekend. It doesn't
get any leaked (or bloated) memory back, it just stops growing while the
system is idle. So, maybe something about Firefox or Chromium is causing
the leak (or bloat). I'm using the stock Firefox and Chromium that are
available through the normal Ubuntu repos. If I remember, I'll try just
leaving one of them open and seeing if I can narrow down which is the
culprit.

[Bug 1075614] Re: Unity leaks memory even when desktop is idle, screen locked in 12.10

2012-11-13 Thread Stephen A. Goss
I left Gnome Classic on over the weekend, I can confirm no memory leak
or "bloat" at all. I'm assuming that the memory "bloat" is memory you
keep a reference to, instead of losing the reference without freeing. It
seems like memory bloat would be trivially easy to track down. Let the
program run, eventually 99% of the allocated memory will be the "bloaty"
bits, you should be able to answer the question:

Where is it being allocated?

Where are the references being kept?

And then stop doing that.

[Bug 870042] Re: Memory leak in compiz (and maybe Xorg)

2011-12-08 Thread Stephen A. Goss
Is this really an important issue? All you have to do is run "compiz
--replace" every morning on your desktop, resize and move all your
windows back to where they were, and presto, you get a bunch of memory
back from the system. Except that over the weekend your whole desktop
can freeze or become otherwise unusable due to compiz's lust for memory,
in which case you just have to restart your computer without the option
to save anything you were working on. I vote to close this issue as WONT
FIX.

[Bug 672385] Re: suspend goes to blank screen

2010-11-13 Thread Stephen A. Goss
I have this exact problem with Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit on my Lenovo Z360. It
also only happens occasionally. I will try to collect data when it
happens again.

evolution-data-server-2.28 is using 1.3 Gb of memory, all I have is a
single IMAP email account configured!

[Bug 306497] Re: gwibber uses a lot of memory

2010-08-06 Thread Stephen A. Goss
It grows about 100MB per day with 1 Twitter and 1 FB account. It's not
memory over-usage, it's a memory leak, as the application memory usage
seems to grow indefinitely. Mine has gotten as high as 650MB after 6
days. I'm guessing that Simon had his running for even longer to get to
1.2 GB. A default desktop app on an LTS release probably shouldn't leak
memory this badly.

[Bug 574886] Re: Apt has strange network errors when updating indexes.

2010-05-14 Thread Stephen A. Goss
It's somehow related to the internet connection, as I only get the error
on my home internet connection (wireless 802.11g router with WPA2
connected to Comcast cable modem), but not when I'm at work (wireless
802.11g router with WEP 128 bit connected to local ISP).

[Bug 574886] [NEW] Apt has strange network errors when updating indexes.

2010-05-03 Thread Stephen A. Goss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

If I update the apt indices either in Synaptic Package Manager, Update
Manager or from the command line, it fails to download a random
selection of indexes (from 0 to 3, usually). The errors look like this:

W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-
security/Release.gpg Something wicked happened resolving
'security.ubuntu.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname)

W: Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/dists/lucid/Release.gpg
Something wicked happened resolving 'archive.canonical.com:http' (-5 -
No address associated with hostname)

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old
ones used instead.

It is usually about two that fail, though sometimes more, and sometimes
none. I just have a wireless router attached to a cable modem, standard
home broadband. If I run 'update' a couple times, it will get
everything. Apt has no problem downloading or installing packages. I can
run 'ping' against these servers with zero packet loss.

If I do a single update with errors and then try to install packages,
sometimes it warns me that packages are unsigned.

Originally, I had upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10, so to make sure it wasn't
an upgrade problem, I backed up my personal files, and installed 10.04
from scratch. The problem persisted with the default Ubuntu 10.04
install.

My laptop is a Compaq CQ60 215dx.
