[Bug 1755863] Re: netbooting the bionic live CD over NFS goes straight to maintenance mode :

2018-04-29 Thread Stephen Early
I've just checked: a NFS boot image built from the currently released
Ubuntu 18.04 still has this bug. I can't see any relevant commits to
casper or systemd, either.

[Bug 1705345] Re: Installing new kernel hangs on plymouth --ping

2018-01-10 Thread Stephen Early
I am seeing the same thing. plymouthd doesn't hang around after every
boot, but it does so a reasonably large percentage of the time.
Additionally, when plymouthd continues to run after boot, machine
shutdown hangs for a long time before completing (presumably some kind
of systemd timeout).

Running strace against plymouthd when it's stuck causes it to exit
normally.

[Bug 1409557] Re: Ubiquity crashes installing to encrypted partition

There was a partition marked as the mountpoint for / in the Ubiquity

partition table" within the sda9_crypt device.

[Bug 1409557] [NEW] Ubiquity crashes installing to encrypted partition

2015-01-11 Thread Stephen Early
Public bug reported:

Attempting to install Ubuntu 14.10 alongside Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo
Y50-70. Want / and swap to be encrypted. Used gparted to resize the
main Windows 8.1 partition to make space for Ubuntu, then started
ubiquity.

Chose "something else" partitioning because the "encrypt" and "use lvm"
checkboxes are greyed out when "install Ubuntu alongside Windows Boot
Manager" is selected. Created an ext2 partition of 512Mb for /boot in
the free space. Created an encrypted partition. Noticed that it
automatically created an ext4 filesystem within this, so clicked
"Revert" which got rid of the ext4 filesystem but left the
/dev/mapper/sda9_crypt device in place. Clicked "New Partition Table"
on this, which appeared to work, and then created swap and ext4 root
filesystem within it.

Ubiquity crashed on clicking Install Now.

says I should look at the other bug report — but I can't!

[Bug 877444] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked

2011-11-12 Thread Stephen Early
This affects me too: update manager starts automatically because there
are available updates, and hides itself. The Unity launcher shows it as
running (icon is present, showing number of available updates, with a
blue-ish arrowhead by it) but nothing happens when it's clicked. The
only option that does anything on the menu available with right-click is
"Quit", which works as expected.

[Bug 490962] [NEW] Printing using lpr is always duplex

2009-12-01 Thread Stephen Early
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

It is possible that this is related to bug #411392.

The 'sides' option is always ignored; output is always long-edge duplex.

st...@drone:~$ lpoptions

At this point "lpr -o sides=one-sided foo.pdf" produces long-edge duplex
output. The installed cups package is 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.1
