[Bug 1242094] Re: clementine without libgpod support

2013-12-06 Thread Steven Sciame
Is a fix for this scheduled? I am encountering the same problem using
LUbuntu 13.10 with an ipod nano 7g.

This is an iPod, but you compiled Clementine without libgpod support.
If you continue, this device will work slowly and songs copied to it may
not work.

[Bug 547225] Re: Evince fails to properly display this type of pdf

2010-10-09 Thread Steven Sciame
Yes I believe it was fixed after poppler .12.4. I compiled .13.3 and
it worked fine. Interestingly though it was fixed on my Debian box
after 5.0.5 update (I guess they backported the fix) to the version of
poppler in Lenny (.8.7)

[Bug 539162] Re: xsane produces mess when saving pdf

2010-09-19 Thread Steven Sciame
I switched to gNewsense. It is a 100% free( as in freedom) distro based
on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. Xsane works perfectly in that distro. So it looks
like somewhere between 8.04 and Jaunty something got messed up.

Re: [Bug 547225] Re: Evince fails to properly display this type of pdf

2010-07-02 Thread Steven Sciame
Hello,

Is your ppa still active?  I tried to add it to another computer
today and I get this message:

W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net lucid Release: The following
signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available:
NO_PUBKEY A24F227D9E070782

When I added the ppa, it said the key was not found.  I tried to do it
manually (edit the source.list.d file then add the key)  and got the
same result.

This issue is NOT fixed in the latest release of poppler available in
the repositories (I just updated it today---still the same problem)
But the good news is that Ben Bordwell was nice enough to make a PPA
with the package that does fix this issue.

[Bug 586143] [NEW] Terminal will not start

2010-05-26 Thread Steven Sciame
Public bug reported:

This has happened several times now. I usually have to reboot to
temporarily fix it. When I try to start the Terminal, it looks like it

it never does start. After several attempts, I usually reboot. (I can't
even ps aux | grep gnome-terminal to check if it is running somewhere,
because I need a terminal for that.

I need this package to work. What is the best way to go about this?
The usual ./configure, make, etc. doesn't seem to be appropriate here.
Is this something that could show up in the repositories in 10.04 or are
we talking later releases?

[Bug 572694] [NEW] [ICH - Intel 82801BA-ICH2] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-04-30 Thread Steven Sciame
Public bug reported:

Sound no longer works at all. This happened as soon as I upgraded from
Karmic to Lucid. I did the ubuntu sound troubleshoot.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting The only
thing I changed was I added my username to the group: audio like it
suggested. This did not fix the problem. The master volume is turned
all the way up, but there is no sound.

[Bug 572717] [NEW] Hibernate does not work properly: Screen goes blank, but does not hibernate.

2010-04-30 Thread Steven Sciame
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hibernate

Compaq Presario 2105us does not hibernate properly ever since upgrade to
Lucid. In Jaunty and Karmic the hibernate worked properly (computer
goes to sleep and can be awakened back to the point that you left
without a restart.

In Lucid, the screen goes blank, and becomes completely unresponsive,
but is still on. No key strike or mouse movement has any effect. If I
power down the computer from that point it, can only be turned back on
by rebooting from scratch.

Any help would be much appreciated.

[Bug 331681] Re: Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device

2010-04-29 Thread Steven Sciame
I experienced this problem in Karmic. Now I am using Lucid Lynx and
seem to be experiencing something similar. I get the same error
messages: Unable to mount KODAK EasyShare CX7430 Zoom Digital Camera
Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device And this:
Error Conecting to Camera Received error Could not lock the device
while connecting to camera

The difference is that I am now able to download the photos from my
camera! This is great to see, but I would love to get these error
messages cleaned up for when I show Lucid off to my judgemental
Proprietary Operating System owning friends. :-) I know that this
is relatively low priority, but any help would be much appreciated.

[Bug 382998] Re: Videos will not play anymore

2010-04-12 Thread Steven Sciame
This bug no longer happens. A simple reinstall did not fix it. I
needed to remove-purge both gnash and the flashplugin-nonfree, then
reinstalled the flashplugin-nonfree only. That fixed the problem. I
would prefer to use free software, but in this case the non-free flash
plugin seems to have much better performance. Thank you for the follow
up.

[Bug 522478] [NEW] Failed to mount iPod.

2010-02-15 Thread Steven Sciame
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: devicekit-disks

When I plug in my 4GB ipod 2g nano to my CompaqPresario 2105us, I keep
getting this message: Failed to mount iPod. mount: wrong fs type,
bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,missing codepage or
helper program, or other errorIn some cases useful info is found
in syslog - trydmesg | tail or so .

I posted a Ton of information on ubuntu forums about this of everything
that I tried:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1389131

I am not sure what is going on here. The ipod connected perfectly with
Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10, Xubuntu 9.04, gNewSense 2.3 and Windows XP. (yes I
actually reinstalled it to check this along with a couple of other
things)

Now I am using live CD's but would like to get back on track with a real
installation. I was hoping to use Xubuntu on this old laptop to ease
load on system resources.

Any help would be much appreciated.

[Bug 513916] [NEW] firefox will not load certain web pages

2010-01-28 Thread Steven Sciame
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Certain websites do not load and I seem to be getting a lot of strange
messages in the error console of firefox. For Example:

Warning: Error in parsing value for 'filter'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: https://launchpad.net/+icing/rev8939/combo.css
Line: 2

Warning: Error in parsing value for 'height'. Declaration dropped.
Source File:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.5/+filebug/s3vGNGEMfrfRSoyPgd2QJ5ZhF6u
Line: 0

and many others just like this.

ironically www.linux.org is one of the sites that dosen't work for me.
I thought that it might have been down because a computer running XP
could not access it for a while, but now it can.I was taking a linux
tutorial on linux.org when this happened and it told me I could use the
command: top to check which applications were taking up the most system
resources. I notice that firefox was taking up about 20% of my memory
and quite a bit of system resources(so my fan on the laptop was almost
constantly running). So I got cute and installed elinks so I could use
it for basic things like read linux tutorials so I can learn this stuff
without asking too many questions on these forums.

linux.org stopped working in elinks first(along with yahoo mail-
error or something). I then tried firefox and yahoo AND linux.org
did not work. Yahoo has started behaving itself (it works, but I still
get similar messages in the error console) , but linux.org still doesn't
work:Problem loading page and unable to connect with these error:

Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'. Declaration dropped.
Source File:
http://www.google.com/search?q=linuxie=utf-8oe=utf-8aq=trls=com.ubuntu:en-US:officialclient=firefox-a
Line: 3

When I ping linux.org from the terminal it seems to work:

ste...@steven-laptop:~$ ping linux.org

[Bug 403188] [NEW] Evince doesn't display this type of pdf properly.

2009-07-22 Thread Steven Sciame
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

My work sends me pdf files that do not display properly in evince.
Attached is an example. These work in XP. I am wondering if it is
possible to get some sort of plugin or fix to get evince to properly
display. The attached document is a mostly blank version of a document
that normally contains private info.

[Bug 382998] Re: Videos will not play anymore

2009-06-06 Thread Steven Sciame
Since the last post, I have tried to remove the non free one and give
Gnash a try. I get the same result. Poor Youtube performance, and no
function anywhere else.

4 sites that do not work are

doctorjuiceplus.com (there is a video in the middle of the front page
that you can click on) It just looks lik it is perpetually loading, but
never plays.

chirofraudvideo.com

hulu.com

jibjab.com (none of the videos work)

[Bug 383376] Re: Videos will not play anymore

2009-06-03 Thread Steven Sciame
Hello,

I followed the link you gave me. From the Terminal I typed:
firefox -ProfileManager like it told me to do so I could start another
profile and try the default settings.

This did not work. It just opened the firefox browser as if I just
typed: firefox I also tried typing:

firefox -Profilemanager
firefox -profilemanager
firefox -P

None of these opened up a Profile manager.

No Videos or audios work in my firefox browser except Youtubebut they are
extremely slow and poor performance.

This seems to have happened after I installed from the Konsole
libxine1-mpeg for my Amarock.

Is this possible that it would affect firefox? It is the only thing
that I can think of that I did that might have something to do with the
problem.

I did not install the flash plugin installer from the terminal. I just
went to adobe website and re- installed the flashplayer
