Re: [Bug 389467] Re: sudo dumpcap will not write output files to ~/
The more i read about this, the less i like (or understand) the wireshark implementation/integration in Ubuntu. If you are only using wireshark for analyzing capture files, then fine. But if you are actually using these tools for capturing packets, then Ubuntu will not make your life easier. No such thing as a "launch wireshark as root" menu item. And if you try to use the terminal instead (having learned that wireshark as root is pure evil), then you will discover, by trial and error, that you cannot really write capture files to your own home folder, even with sudo. Secure? Sure. User friendly? No. However, I'm very pleased to read that this can be fixed by running dpkg-reconfigure, and then adding yourself to the wireshark group, but this should really be the default behavior. I have almost the same problem in Xubuntu (Bug #652731) but here it is "xfsettingd" not running (which means appearance settings cannot be changed). However if I boot from the live cd, everything works and xfsettingsd is running as it should. Yes i have a core i7 (930) and Nvidia GTX 470. I wonder if this is a concurrency issue of some sort, eg. xfsettingsd being loaded too early? This would at least explain why the (slow booting) live cd does not have this bug on my PC. I just did a fresh reinstall of Xubuntu 10.10 RC, and yes the problem is that 'xfsettingsd' is not running for some reason. [Bug 652731] Re: Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC
A little update: Yesterday uninstalled python (apt-get remove python) which turned out to remove tons of other stuff as well. After reboot, I now invariably get the "ubuntu running in low graphics mode" error. But when I do a login in via console, and then run startx, my desktop is perfecly normal and my "apperance settings" bug is gone! I even get the hibernate/suspend option back when i logout which was also missing before. So in effect, it seems I have traded one problem for another, but this is certainly much better. It's only a minor nuisance to do the console login + startx myself. Currently I'm manually reinstalling packages (using "apt-cache rdepends python") so hopefully I will encounter the package that is the cause of these problems. -- Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652731 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This impacts all setting in the "Appearance" GUI (style/icons/Fonts/Settings) - changing any settings have no effect whatsoever. Also the desktop is very sluggish (may not be related though). I also had this bug in the beta release. Other settings in xfce4-settings-manager seem to work fine. There are no issues when i run directly from the live cd, everything works fine in that scenario. [Bug 544433] [NEW] thunar unable to browse folders in "detailed view"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: thunar in freshly installed xubuntu 10.04 beta1, i am unable to browse into subfolders in Thunar if "view as detailed list" is selected. For example, when i launch Thunar, it opens in say "/" and I am succesfully able to browse (using mouse or keyboard) into say "/etc". However if I browse back again to "/", then suddenly it does not react to mouse-clicking on any folder name. This issue only relates to "detailed" view - icon and compact view work fine. Also the right-click folder context menu (open, open in new windows etc) is lost when this occurs. In my .xsession-errors i get stuff like: (Thunar:1339): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_window_type: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed but I cannot tell if it relates to the problem. s...@xubuntu64:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release:10.04 s...@xubuntu64:~$ apt-cache policy thunar thunar: Installed: 1.0.1-3ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.0.1-3ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.0.1-3ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: thunar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- thunar unable to browse folders in "detailed view" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544433 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 217789] Re: Realtek ALC888 low sound
I can confirm the issue still exists in Jaunty release candidate (amd64) which I installed this morning. I have Abit IP35 Pro board with onboard Realtek ALC888. Note that only the rear audio jack has very low volume - the front audio jack has normal volume. However, in my case, the front connector is very noisy as the mobo audio connector cable picks up static so is is really not an option for quality audio. -- Realtek ALC888 low sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
