[Bug 734737] [NEW] aptitude removes packages conflicting with requested package even if it was not downloaded
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: aptitude I had been testing connman and indicator-network but found that they did not yet support WPA-Enterprise. Therefore I thought I could install network-manager and network-manager-gnome. Forgetting that I was not online, I ran "sudo aptitude install network-manager-gnome", was asked if I wanted to solve the conflict by removing the conflicting packages (connman and indicator-network), answered yes and ended up with neither of the packages installed. This happened because aptitude proceeded with removing connman and indicator-network even though the packages to replace it were not fetched. 1) $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch) Release:11.04 2) $ apt-cache policy aptitude aptitude: Installed: 0.6.3-3.2ubuntu1 Candidate: 0.6.3-3.2ubuntu1 Version table: *** 0.6.3-3.2ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) I expected the packages to be either downloaded or the whole transaction to be rolled back. 4) The transaction continued, and the conflicting packages (in this case connman and indicator-network) were removed, although the packages which were to replace them (network-manager and network-manager-gnome) had not been downloaded. That way I was left without an internet connection (except that the cache still contained connman and indicator-network so I could install them again and fix the problem in another way). [Bug 345659] Re: Failure to resume from suspend with HP LP2475w monitor set as only display attached to a ThinkPad X32
Here is the information gathered, one piece at a time: Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up? When waking up. The machine, a Thinkpad X32, took the usual time to suspend and ended in a suspended state where the hard disk, fan and other power consuming devices were off. Is it reproducible? Yes, though it seems to occur more often when the machine has been suspended for a longer time (hours). Suspend was always performed using the menu option in the fast-user-switch-applet. Did it work before? Suspend has worked before with the same machine, but this problem is rather persistent. $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 2.6.28-11.38-generic Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar? No, no panic. I suspect it might very well be related to my graphics card, since it is not a very powerful one, and the screen resolution it is asked to output (1920x1200) is a little more than the maximum resolution of the built-in 12" LCD screen (1024x768). -- Failure to resume from suspend with HP LP2475w monitor set as only display attached to a ThinkPad X32 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345659 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 134238] Re: Please re-enable build of s2ram binary
The following is the case on my IBM ThinkPad X32 running Intrepid Ibex on September 10th: I couldn't suspend with pm-suspend but it worked with pm-suspend-hybrid and pm-hibernate. Also, the suspend option had gone missing from my Gnome Power Manager menu. pm-is-supported --suspend failed while --hibernate and --suspend-hybrid succeeded. After some investigation I found that the reason was that /usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions chose to try and use uswsusp methods in general (s2disk, s2both, s2ram) for the various suspend functions because of the presence of s2disk: " # Try userspace software suspend if [ -c /dev/snapshot ] && command_exists s2disk ; then SLEEP_MODULE="uswsusp" fi " Now s2ram doesn't come with uswsusp any longer, so later on the command will not succeed and the check needs to be altered. Removing uswsusp fixed this problem for me, because /usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions chose the default "kernel" method for suspend instead now that s2disk didn't exist any longer, and now it works fine for me. Gnome Power Manager still doesn't show the suspend command in its menu, but that might show up after a reboot. uname -a yields "Linux skx 2.6.27-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Aug 28 17:20:02 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux" for what it's worth. ** Also affects: pm-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Please re-enable build of s2ram binary https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134238 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
