out the new cool 64 ubuntu edition? Black screen. Crappy linux backu
to window for him. No way he will edit grub to get it to work.

[Bug 91556] Re: Edgy and Feisty don't work with Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS

2007-03-14 Thread Svein Harald Soleim
I think the problem is that the nv driver does not support the 8800
series. (I have the same problem), although the vesa driver does. The
vesa drivers do some funny things like some crashes and lockups. Also it
don't support high resolutions, eg 1680x1050 like my screen

Currently there is _none_ drivers that works with 8800 in any ubuntu
packages. Both nvidia drivers 9746 and 9755 works with these cards, but
are not yet in repos (edgy or feisty)

I've found that this also affects 2.6.15-generic and 2.6.17-server.
but when I compiled my own kernel (2.6.20-rc5) using the -386 config, but
changing arch and including SMP support (and some minor other options) The

Could I suggest that we raise the priority of this problem to High.

Indeed, if anyone botherd to read my error log, they would see that the
restart of dbus produses a kernel oops, and that is more a critical
error then medium.
