[Bug 1931778] [NEW] Display goes blank/off regardless
Public bug reported: Fresh up-to-date Xubuntu 21.04 install. In Settings: Disabled screen saver Disabled display power manager Expected result: Screen remains on forever Actual result: Screen is turned off after about 5 minutes(?) Googling very hard suggested "xset s off" as a solution in a thread dating back to 2012. Little bit more investigating showed that Xfce screen saver changes "xset s" params - they reflect the timeout specified in Settings. But when you turn off the Xfce's screen saver, it doesn't do 'xset s off' - it resets it back to defaults (on, 300 seconds). This behavior is just plain wrong. ** Affects: xfce4-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931778 Title: Display goes blank/off regardless To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-screensaver/+bug/1931778/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1479093] Re: Segfault in ld-2.19.so while starting Steam after upgrade to 3.13.0-59.98
Just a ping. After update to the *-59 kernel, several internal applications started failing in system() library call: the shell (/bin/sh -c) was crashing shortly after exec() with a segmentation fault. Similarly to comment #15, the applications works if started using the 'strace -f'. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1479093 Title: Segfault in ld-2.19.so while starting Steam after upgrade to 3.13.0-59.98 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1479093/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1472947] [NEW] update-manager hangs after click on techical description
Public bug reported: The GUI of update-manager to select updates to install keeps hanging for indefinite time with 100% CPU load (full single CPU core). This is happening to me already since the 12.04 LTS times, and the behavior is more or less unchanged in 14.04 LTS. Steps to reproduce: 0. There should be some updates available for update-manager to show the window with the update to be installed. 1. Click the Details of updates to display the list 2. Expand (for example) *Ubuntu base and click on some package in the list. 3. Click the Technical description to show the description. 4. Click again the Technical description to hide the description. 5. Click on some other package in the list. Expected: - The update manager reacts to the click and moves focus in the list to another package Actual result: - The update manager hangs (doesn't react to mouse/keyboard events) for indefinite time with 100% CPU load. Time of the blocking varies: from few seconds to up to a minute probably. Just some general toggling of Details of updates and Technical details, and clicking on different items in the list would cause the weird behavior to occur. (Eventually it would also cause the Details of updates to either stop showing the details or showing the details while making the update-manager window non-resizeable.) ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: gdb's thread apply all where output from the time period when the update-manager was hangning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1472947/+attachment/4426814/+files/update-manager-temp-hang.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1472947 Title: update-manager hangs after click on techical description To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1472947/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1447509] [NEW] adlint fails to run in trusty
Public bug reported: AdLint v3.2.0 package in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS has a problem, which makes it unusable out of box. The problem is already fixed in Debian with the AdLint v3.2.14. See the ticket: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=730533 Please provide updated AdLint package for the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. P.S. The workaround is to manually patch the file from the AdLint's error message - /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/adlint/message.rb:385 - and as first argument to the open() function put hardcoded file name /etc/adlint/mesg.d/c_builtin/en_US/messages.yml. ** Affects: adlint (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447509 Title: adlint fails to run in trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adlint/+bug/1447509/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1263266] Re: gmusicbrowser does not play in album order, even if shuffle queue is disabled
@Quentin Sculo (squentin) wrote on 2014-11-10: The default behavior is having shuffle enabled, you may not like it, but some people do. Can you please at least elaborate how to change the default behavoir?? Xubuntu 14.04 - I see no shuffle option active by default, yet it plays songs in the random order. I have scanned thrice the Settings dialog - there is not a single option which might be even remotely relevant to the play order. It depends on which play order is selected. The way to change the order vary a lot depending on which layout you are using, it's either in the menu if your layout has one, and/or with an icon that pops-up the play order menu when clicked (and toggle between the last ordered order and the last shuffle/random order when right-clicked). Can you please elaborate on this? Preferably with screen-shots and explanation of the options? In my GMB I have only could find menu called Playing which only has the filtering options and nothing else. [Bug 862894] [NEW] chat status menu with $LOGNAME has all options disabled
Public bug reported: See attached picture. All options are disabled - it is impossible to select on-line status (e.g. Available). This is on default installation of Ubuntu 11.04. Only extra packages installed are for VirtualBox guest support. P.S. If the menu as useless as it seems, please at least provide an option to remove it. [Bug 72872] Re: Users do not have permission to open files in DVDs burnt in a Mac
I can verify that the DVD I burned was in fact readable on other Macs. That is not surprising: Mac OS X ignores permissions on all external media. It's simple as that. I had this problem in past and not only with content from Mac OS X. E.g. if would you make external hard drive with Ext2 file system, you will have problems sharing files on it between Linux desktops as user/group ids on different desktops are not guaranteed to match. Solution - file systems need a special mount option to allow to ignore permission for case of external storage. Then mount command needs to be updated with the option (and obviously mount syscall with the new flag). Only serious problem is how in Linux to differentiate between external and internal storage. Last thing I'd want is for permissions on my local hard drive to stop working. -- Users do not have permission to open files in DVDs burnt in a Mac https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/72872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 315970] Re: g-p-m keeps disk spinning
m4cph1sto, thanks for the information. I - reporter - already have removed g-p-m from my system so couldn't provide the info. personally I think this is a bug because this behavior prevents the hard drive from spinning down and thus shortens battery life Very true. and may lead to early hard drive failure. Not true. HDD are made for constant spinning. They can spin for several many month constantly without problems. In fact, spin-down spin-up cycle is limited resource and does shorten life of HDDs. Negligibly, yet it does. (I heard laptop HDDs are tested for something like 100K spin-down-spin-up cycles.) But of course in context of laptops, this is clear bug. My personal problems are: battery life and heat. In fact, I'd say heat is bigger issue than battery life. As hard drive spins constantly, my notebook (namely the part where HDD is) heats up so much that I cannot keep it on my lap anymore. -- g-p-m keeps disk spinning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315970 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 315970] [NEW] g-p-m keeps disk spinning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager During investigations on what keeps waking up hard drive of my laptop, I have found (using pidstat -d + strace) that gnome-power-manager writes what looks like actual state of battery to $HOME/.gnome2/gnome- power-manager about every 90 seconds. That needs to be fixed. If system is on battery and is idle, then no intentional disk spinning should be happening. Otherwise it is very silly: the modules which monitor battery charge cause the battery to discharge. If information doesn't need to be persistent, then g-p-m should at least send the information to /tmp, which is often mounted using tmpfs. That would eliminate at least one of the reasons why my hdd keeps spinning under Linux. P.S. Ubuntu 8.04 with XFCE on PowerBook 12. Actually pbbuttond causes similar problem since on the platform it is the daemon which produces the battery status info into /var/lib/ibam/ directory. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- g-p-m keeps disk spinning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315970 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 234789] [NEW] [needs-packaging] vim-lesstif

It is present in Debian: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/vim-lesstif Unfortunately, vim-gtk/vim-gnome works well only if used locally or remotely from similar Linux installation. But when working remotely, both of the front-ends look pretty ugly and are barely usable with foreign X11 servers.
