[Bug 1673258] Re: Remove aptdaemon and drop or port its reverse-dependencies

2017-03-21 Thread Thomas Leonard
I've now uploaded zeroinstall-injector 2.12-4 to Debian. That should fix
the build problem here.

Not sure why it builds in Debian but not Ubuntu. If you need a quick
fix, adding a build-dependency on libsha-ocaml-dev should cause it to
use that instead of openssl (the build log says "sha (ocaml-sha) not
found; using OpenSSL instead").

[Bug 1033493] Re: iscsiadm: No portal found. in the newest code after 2012.8.6

2013-01-23 Thread Thomas Leonard
I was getting this error (Stderr: 'iscsiadm: No portal found.\n'). It
turned out that I had both tgt and iscsitarget installed, and both were
trying to run a service on the same port. Cinder was setting up a tgt
target, but iscsiadm was connecting to the iscsitarget service and not
finding it.

The fix was:

apt-get purge iscsitarget

After that, I was able to attach a volume to a VM using Horizon.

[Bug 1079611] [NEW] Download Juju Environment Config gives wrong credentials

2012-11-16 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

When I download the Juju configuration using Download Juju Environment
Config in the dashboard, the EC2 credentials (combined-key and
secret-key) are wrong. If I download using Download EC2 Credentials
then they are correct.

Comparing the code for these two, they are suspiciously difference:

EC2:

def find_or_create_access_keys(request, tenant_id):
keys = api.keystone.list_ec2_credentials(request, request.user.id)
for key in keys:
if key.tenant_id == tenant_id:
return key
return api.keystone.create_ec2_credentials(request,

Juju:

def find_or_create_access_keys(request, tenant_id):
keys = api.keystone.list_ec2_credentials(request, request.user.id)
if keys:
return keys[0]
else:
return api.keystone.create_ec2_credentials(request,

Copying the EC2 logic into the Juju file fixes it. This is with version
2012.2-0ubuntu2~cloud0, but it looks like its the same in trunk.

Thanks,

[Bug 964415] [NEW] Please sync from Debian to get security fix

2012-03-25 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

0install 1.4.1 has a certificate validation bug, which was fixed in 1.6:

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.zero-install.devel/5174

Please sync from Debian (testing or unstable), which has the fix.

I'm reporting this as a bug here, as requested in
https://code.launchpad.net/~talex5/ubuntu/precise/zeroinstall-injector
/fix-for-953756/+merge/97807

[Bug 964415] Re: Please sync from Debian to get security fix

2012-03-25 Thread Thomas Leonard
* A description of the proposed changes, with sufficient detail to
estimate their potential impact on the distribution

When connecting to the key information server, to check whether a GPG
software-signing key should be trusted, 0install asks Python to check
that the server has a valid HTTPS certificate. However, Python's
certificate validator does not check that the certificate presented is
for the site requested. Therefore, an attacker with a valid X.509
certificate for another site can impersonate the key information server.
0install 1.6 contains a fix for this (doing the validation itself).

* A rationale for the exception, explaining the benefit of the change

A release should not go out with a known security flaw.

* Any additional information which would be helpful in considering the
decision

The changes between 1.4.1 and 1.6 are quite minor (mostly bug-fixes). A
PPA package of 1.6 for precise is here:

https://launchpad.net/~talex5/+archive/0install

This PPA is a direct import from Debian (it does not contain the patch
for bug #953756). I will upload a patch for that once the sync is done.

Thanks,

[Bug 953756] Re: 0install cannot install system packages on Pangolin

2012-03-25 Thread Thomas Leonard
They want to update to 1.6 before applying the patch (to get a security
fix). I've filed a bug for that here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zeroinstall-
injector/+bug/964415

Note that my PPA now contains a plain 1.6 (from Debian) without the
patch, as part of this process (to test that 1.6 works on precise).

[Bug 953756] Re: 0install cannot install system packages on Pangolin

2012-03-23 Thread Thomas Leonard
They are from 0install, but I'm not sure why you're getting them,
because it shouldn't be querying for default-jre (unless you actually
specified that as a dependency, which seems unlikely).

[Bug 953756] Re: 0install cannot install system packages on Pangolin

2012-03-16 Thread Thomas Leonard
Actually, I think the problem is just that aptdaemon fails when we try
the old PackageKit API (instead of just returning an exception). So, the
solution is to try the new API first.

I've put up a new PPA with the fix here:

[Bug 953756] Re: 0install cannot install system packages on Pangolin

2012-03-15 Thread Thomas Leonard
Ah, you're right.

1. I installed precise from a recent snapshot, upgraded, and installed
PackageKit. It failed using zeroinstall-injector 1.4.1-1 but worked with
1.4.1-2.

2. I removed PackageKit and installed python-aptdaemon.pkcompat. Then it
fails.

According to the docs, InstallPackages only takes two arguments, so I
guess this is a problem with python-aptdaemon.pkcompat?

[Bug 587248] [NEW] rsvg crashes rending a trivial file

2010-05-29 Thread Thomas Leonard

$ cat svg.py

Tested on 64-bit and 32-bit Lucid.

This is a simplified test-case. The original was an HTML error page.

[Bug 366333] Re: Cryptic error message when trying to install Tasklist from the ROX desktop

2009-05-09 Thread Thomas Leonard
0.40 is now in Debian/unstable. Since this was mostly a bug-fix release
anyway, it may be best to sync from there. The release notes are here:

http://www.gnomefiles.org/version.php?soft_id=921

Alternatively, the patch is here:

http://repo.or.cz/w/zeroinstall.git?a=commitdiff;h=c085406f4f73564869fad6b7c859b10e79c8ec7f

(the comment is misleading; the problem was originally seen on FreeBSD,
but now affects Ubuntu too)

Let me know if a debdiff would be better than syncing from Debian.

[Bug 336317] Re: [FFe][jaunty] Please sync zeroinstall-injector 0.39 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-04-05 Thread Thomas Leonard
Was a work-around for a problem with Python 2.5's distutils, I think.
Looks like it's not needed with Python 2.6.

The attached patch should fix it (while still supporting 2.5 if
necessary). The resulting binary package's contents are the same,
according to debdiff.

Note that all previous versions have had this line, so presumably the
version currently in Jaunty doesn't build either now.

[Bug 336317] Re: Update notification doesn't work in Jaunty

2009-03-29 Thread Thomas Leonard
Requesting a freeze exception, as described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess.

Proposed changes:

Update to 0.39, since the version currently in Jaunty doesn't work
(throws an exception when checking for updates due to removal of the
actions feature from the notification service).

The changes between 0.37 and 0.39 are mainly bug-fixes. The release
notes can be found here:

http://gnomefiles.org/version.php?soft_id=921

Non-bug-fix changes affecting Ubuntu in 0.38 and 0.39 are:

- New Swedish translation.
- New --message option to display a message in the window.
- New audit command for verifying all packages at once.

There are no rdepends on this package.

The package has been tested using Jaunty by running the program's test-
gui test suite. This fails with the current 0.37 version, and passes
with Debian's 0.39.

[Bug 336317] Re: Update notification doesn't work in Jaunty

2009-03-08 Thread Thomas Leonard
Not quite. This bug is about moving from notifications to using the
system tray. That bug is about another change: moving from using the
system tray to using unfocussed windows. Probably best to see how people
react to the new UI in Update Manager before doing the same thing to
Zero Install.

[Bug 336317] [NEW] Update notification doesn't work in Jaunty

2009-03-01 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zeroinstall-injector

Jaunty has dropped support for part of the freedesktop.org notification
system, and can now only display simple messages (not messages with
buttons, like Updates available. [Download]):

 http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/265

The latest upstream GIT version detects this and uses the system tray
instead.

[Bug 211464] Re: 0launch crashed with IOError in update_user_overrides()

2008-12-07 Thread Thomas Leonard
(sorry for the delayed reply: for some reason I wasn't notified when
this bug was created, only when Daniel replied)

Is the file in question (
/home/mark/.config/0install.net/injector/user_overrides/http%3a%2f%2fholizz.com%2fsoftware%2f0install%2fpysqlite2)
 owned and readable by the user (Mark)?

If it's not readable, that could indicate a bug. If the ownership is
wrong, perhaps that would suggest that the program was once run as root
with $HOME pointing to the user's home directory?

Please add a comment saying which is the case. Either way, deleting the
file will fix the problem.

[Bug 55739] Re: No more mouse events after using rdesktop

2008-11-07 Thread Thomas Leonard
I'm having this problem several times a day since upgrading to 8.10 (all
previous versions were OK).

I use focus-follows-mouse and two screens. Window manager is Ion 3.

I mainly run Firefox, Evolution, xterm and Vim. The mouse moves and the
keyword works fine (including changing focus), but clicking the mouse
has no effect and the focus doesn't change as the mouse moves. Looks a
lot like as if someone has a pointer grab.

I have tried killing off X clients from an xterm, but nothing seems to
help reliably. I can't switch to VT1 with 8.10 (it's just blank).
Control usually returns eventually. Restarting the window manager works
sometimes but not always. Running xkill (as suggested here) seemed to
fix it once (will try again next time it happens to see if it's
repeatable).

[Bug 163341] Re: git-svn gets wrong parent revision for tags

2008-04-07 Thread Thomas Leonard
Try:

git-svn clone https://zero-install.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/zero-
install -T trunk/0publish -r1890:2072 -b releases/0publish

git-svn version 1.5.2.5 (svn 1.4.4)

Go into the created 'zero-install' directory and run:

gitk --all

As you can see, the git branch comes from r1894, yet the svn log shows
that in includes files from r2070:

svn log https://zero-install.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/zero-install
-r2071 -v

My patch is not correct in all cases, since it is possible to create a
branch from an earlier revision than HEAD (probably it should find the
newest source version rather than the oldest). However, the current code
seems worse since in fails to cope with the normal case.

(the problem of getting the correct branch point is probably unsolvable
in the most general case, since a branch may even come from a mixture of
different revisions, although I doubt anyone does that intentionally)

[Bug 212258] [NEW] storebackup logging error

2008-04-05 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: storebackup

storeBackup prints:

unknown param 1 in printLog::print
unknown param ARRAY(0xd90e00) in printLog::print

I think it's caused by this bit:

$prLog-print('-kind' = 'E',
  [cannot create $aktDir, exiting],
  '-exit' = 1)
unless (mkdir $aktDir);

Perhaps it should be (with -str):

$prLog-print('-kind' = 'E',
  '-str' = [cannot create $aktDir, exiting],
  '-exit' = 1)

[Bug 191958] [NEW] xdg-desktop-menu install requires a logout the first time

2008-02-14 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xdg-utils

When installing a new application for the first time, the new menu entry
doesn't appear immediately. You have to log out and log back in again.
However, installing further applications works fine.

To reproduce (on a clean Gutsy system):

1. Create a new user:

$ sudo adduser bob

2. Log in as bob

3. Install the sample .desktop file:

  $ xdg-desktop-menu install test-test.desktop

4. Notice that no entry appears in the Applications-Accessories menu.

5. Log out and log back in again.

6. Menu item is now visible.

From this point on, any further programs added show up immediately.

As an alternative to logging out, running alacarte and then immediately
quitting it also makes the new entry appear.

[Bug 163341] git-svn gets wrong parent revision for tags

2007-11-17 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: git-core

When converting a subversion repository to GIT using git-svn, the svn
tags do not have the right parent. Each tag should be identical to a
trunk revision (which it was copied from), but because git-svn uses an
earlier revision as the parent it appears that the same work was
duplicated on two branches.

In the subversion history, a release tag appears like this:

$ svn log -v file:///.../zero-install/releases/0publish/0publish-0.12
r2071 | tal197 | 2007-11-10 19:40:45 + (Sat, 10 Nov 2007) | 1 line
Changed paths:
   A /releases/0publish/0publish-0.12 (from /trunk/0publish:1968)
   R /releases/0publish/0publish-0.12/0publish (from
/trunk/0publish/0publish:2070)
   R /releases/0publish/0publish-0.12/0publish.xml (from
/trunk/0publish/0publish.xml:2070)
   R /releases/0publish/0publish-0.12/release.py (from
/trunk/0publish/release.py:2069)

Released 0.12
...

The correct revision to use for the parent is 2070, but git-svn is using
revision 1968:

r2070 = f229dedfe78c2dd73b66d7c5fc30d885e813ca2c (trunk)
Found possible branch point: file://.../zero-install/trunk/0publish =

Same problem here (after upgrading to Gutsy) with evolution-exchange

Combined with the other new-in-gutsy bug which prevents disabling

to announce the latest spam arrivals :-(

[Bug 129352] Re: Meld fails to display file diff interface

2007-08-28 Thread Thomas Leonard
The same bug in Zero Install goes away if I insert a sleep, so that
seems likely. I've filed a pygtk bug here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-gtk2/+bug/131960

[Bug 129352] Re: Meld fails to display file diff interface

2007-08-12 Thread Thomas Leonard
After upgrading to Gutsy, I get a similar error from the (entirely
unrelated) Zero Install package:

$ 0launch -g
/home/talex/Projects/zero-install/0launch/zeroinstall/0launch-gui/mainwindow.py:83:
 Warning: IA__g_object_remove_toggle_ref: couldn'
t find toggle ref 0xb7d07a30(0x84f2f7c)
  self.window.show()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File ./iface_browser.py, line 79, in on_get_size
rect[0] + rect[2] + CELL_TEXT_INDENT,
TypeError: GtkWidget.create_pango_layout() argument 1 must be string, not None

Presumably this is a pygtk issue?

[Bug 131960] IA__g_object_remove_toggle_ref: couldn't find toggle ref 0xb7c94a30(0x84f2f54)

2007-08-12 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-gtk2

After upgrading to Gutsy, I get this error:

$ 0launch -g
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/zeroinstall/0launch-gui/mainwindow.py:83:
Warning: IA__g_object_remove_toggle_ref: couldn't find toggle ref
0xb7c94a30(0x84f2f54)
  self.window.show()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/zeroinstall/0launch-gui/iface_browser.py,
line 71, in on_get_size
layout = widget.create_pango_layout(self.text)
AttributeError: 'IconAndTextRenderer' object has no attribute 'text'

Searching in Google, I found a similar bug report for meld:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meld/+bug/129352

So, I'm assuming this has something to do with pygtk. Oddly, inserting a
time.sleep(1) in the code makes the error go away.

[Bug 117745] Re: powertop suggests to remove g-p-m

2007-06-09 Thread Thomas Leonard
Stracing it, it looks like the main culprit is this (in gnome-power-
manager-2.18.2/src/gpm-dpms.c):

static void
gpm_dpms_init (GpmDpms *dpms)
{
dpms-priv = GPM_DPMS_GET_PRIVATE (dpms);

add_poll_timer (dpms, 500);
}

This wakes up the CPU twice a second to check the monitor's DPMS state.
