[Bug 1007898] Re: Update Manager window often freezes and is invisible when computer is left on for a while

2012-10-07 Thread Thomas Majewski
Exact same problem on my Toshiba L300D system running 12.04. An update
icon appears showing upgrades available but icon does not respond if
clicked. Current workaround is to kill update-manager and relaunch it
from a terminal.

[Bug 997527] Re: Firefox profile corruption

This problem was eliminated when Firefox was upgraded to version 13 and
has not recurred. Given the tiny impact to the community I think it
should be closed.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2012-06-07 Thread Thomas Majewski
Laszlo, I re-enabled 3d Unity on my system to test whether recent
patches might have fixed the gpu problems I was having. For now 3D Unity
seems to be working again. I do not know why but your brightness
settings script worked fine in the 3D mode and my Toshiba L300D now
remembers the settings. Thank you very much for posting the fix.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2012-06-04 Thread Thomas Majewski
Laslo, tried the script on my Toshiba L300D laptop but no joy. I don't
think it's the script though. I have to run acpi_osi= on the linux line
of grub to get my fans to work which disables acpi and thus, the script.
I'll keep trying other solutions until I find something that works.

[Bug 997527] [NEW] Firefox profile corruption

2012-05-10 Thread Thomas Majewski
Public bug reported:

Third time in a week... Firefox 12.0 launches with a dialog box warning that
some security elements could not be installed and that this is probably a
problem with the application's profile
I can delete the profile and restore Firefox but the problem repeats itself on
this new install of 12.04 LTS.
When I try to access it from the terminal with firefox --profile [dir] I get
a dialog box that says that the profile is unavailable or missing. When this
failure occurs the firefox browser does launch however it will not connect with
the internet.

When I launched firefox with the profile command it did print out some
information however am not savvy enough to figure out what it implies
regarding this problem; output follows:

tm@tm-Satellite-Pro-L300D:~$ firefox --profile .mozilla/f05l3vta.default

[Bug 996929] [NEW] indicator-cpufreq does not retain settings after reboot

[Bug 996937] [NEW] Laptop screen remains dimmed after idle

2012-05-09 Thread Thomas Majewski
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded from 10.10 to 12.04. After an idle period where the
backlight correctly turns off the backlight of my Toshiba L-300-D laptop
the backlight comes on but when I move the mouse or press a key however
the screen remains dimmed (grayed out) and stays that way for up to a
minute before the screen reappears. To ensure fan control works I boot
with acpi_osi= in the linux grub line. The screen used to
immediately undim and let me see the screen.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2012-05-09 Thread Thomas Majewski
Having the same trouble with 12.04 LTS. I didn't have any issue running
Maverick (10.10). The screen brightness on my Toshiba L-300-D laptop
changes to full brightness with every reboot. In order to resolve an
overheating problem I turn the acpi off at boot using acpi_osi= on the
linux line in grub. When I check
/sys/class/back.ight/acpi_ideo0/brightness it shows 0 which is where I
want it.

[Bug 795626] Re: ehci_hcd fatal error - USB devices randomly crash

2012-05-08 Thread Thomas Majewski
Christopher Penalever, I did execute the ubuntu-bug linux command and sent it
however, I have no idea where it went.
I tried the method recommended by ubuntu ($ apport-collect -p linux bug# and
it opens a report a problem window that doesn't seem to do anything except
show a spinner which has been running for the past 90 minutes. I cannot find
any reference to how to subscribe you to the report. I did discover that the
kernel repors refer to my wireless card which identifies iteself as: Atheros
Communications Inc. AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev
01).

I'll be glad to help but need some tutoring.

Same problem on my system with a new 12.04 install. Indicator-printers

[Bug 670707] Re: Toshiba L300D laptop overheats if in anything else but Powersave mode.

2011-10-23 Thread Thomas Majewski
My L300D fan will not work unless I add the acpi_osi= code to grub
when I boot. The other way I get the fan working is to start up and
then suspend which is a little better because most of the acpi
functionality is retained. It's a work around and good enough to get
the hardware working but now the issue I am having is that when the
system gets loaded down and the temps get high, the wifi disconnects.
It's happening more frequently these days. Not sure if these issues are
related.

[Bug 745836] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in cppu::throwException()

2011-09-18 Thread Thomas Majewski
I can easily reproduce this problem on my Toshiba L300D laptop. I am
running Maverick with ecryptfs home directory. I just have to put the
original 1GB RAM in, launch Ubuntu and OOo and then work with memory
intensive applications. This causes swap to populate and then any
action to any open OOo documents that are open will cause OOo to crash.
It it much harder to force it to crash with 4GB of RAM so for now, that
is my work-around. These crashes apparently affect both OOo and Libre
the same.

[Bug 745836] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in cppu::throwException()

2011-08-19 Thread Thomas Majewski
In an attempt to work around this OOo crash problem I maxed out my
system's RAM so it no longer needs swap memory. I have had no further
crashes regardless of how long documents and spread sheets are left
open. I believe that this is strong evidence that the failure is caused
once data is moved from RAM to swap memory space. I did do a rather
unscientific query to see if this problem exists on other distro's i.e.
SUSE, Fedora etc. but did not find a similar bug report which leads me
to believe that this issue is Ubuntu specific.

[Bug 709378] Re: Tomboy fails to sync after editing note via web: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

2011-02-23 Thread Thomas Majewski
Hello Roman / all, Thanks for working this. Tested creating notes on
U1 and they sync fine now both from and to the server.

[Bug 709378] Re: Tomboy fails to sync after editing note via web: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

2011-02-07 Thread Thomas Majewski
I too was able to get sync working after removing all the notes from the
./local/share/tomboy folder.
Since everything was looking good I went to U1, and created a note. The first
thing strange was
that U1 created 2 notes identical notes rather than one. I deleted one of
them. Then I tried to synch
tomboy with U1. It failed to sync. I went back to U1, deleted the recently
created note and can now
sync again. Bottom Line: Notes created on my U1 account break tomboy and
cannot create notes
on the server anymore; a facility that worked prior to this problem.

[Bug 579966] Re: OpenOffice crashes with high frequency

2011-02-06 Thread Thomas Majewski
Subscribing. I have a similar problem with OOo 3.2 crashing after
documents have been open for an extended period of time. Using
Maverick on a laptop with an ecryptfs home directory. Noticed the
problem after adding several OOo extensions but have not been able to
verify that extensions are responsible for the behavior noted. I have
experienced crash problems attempting to shut down OOo with no documents
open and OOo running which brings up the recovery dialog with no
documents shown to recover.

[Bug 709378] Re: Tomboy fails to sync after editing note via web: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

2011-01-30 Thread Thomas Majewski
I opened an identical bug #709995 yesterday. Same problem as above
[[ERROR]: Synchronization failed with the following exception: String
was not recognized as a valid DateTime.]. I am running AMD processor
Turion 64 and Ubuntu 10.10 i386. Filed similar/identical debug log for
tomboy and can confirm this issue. I did not think to mention in my bug
report that I too had made changes and edits to notes on the Ubuntu One
site prior to the advent of the problem. I have tried everything I
could find to clear the problem including removing my computer from U1
and setting up tomboy synchronization anew but notes will not synch
apparently due to the invalid DateTime issue, something I could not
confirm in my review of notes downloaded with the ubuntuone-couchdb-
query script as dates appeared to be both consistent and correct. U1
synch daemon *seen via u1sdtool does not specifically show tomboy but I
don't think it needs to as I believe that notes are a server side
include.

[Bug 709995] [NEW] Tomboy will not synch to ubuntu one

2011-01-29 Thread Thomas Majewski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

Tomboy notes V 1.4.2 running on Ubuntu 10.10 stopped synching with
Ubuntu One.

The debug information shows that it has something to do with a time stamp issue
but
am unable to debug it and it may be a server side issue. Files from folders
designated
to synch to ubuntu one do however continue to work.

When manually attempting to synchronize notes with Tomboy it seems to begin well
and then it stops with a message Could not synchronize notes. Check details
below
and try again however, in details there is no data.
