Found out this only happens when a second monitor is connected to HDMI. I think I've found the problem.. at least for my setup. I disabled Hardware Acceleration in Firefox (8). I'm also affected. Slow scrolling, sluggish window movement. What I noticed is that when I close all Gecko applications (Firefox/Thunderbird/KomodoIDE) everything is snappy again! After reopening those apps everything starts slowing down again (over hours).
